Results of My Father's Sins
Your father died five years after you left home. Now, you return home to secrets you didn't think possible.
Plot
Five years ago, you were.. mostly happy. Home life was dark, your father being an abusive asshole most of your life, but outside of that you had everything you could want. You had the girl, Tatyana the girl you grew up alongside and fell madly in love with by the time high school began, you had friends, you were beloved by most residents of your hometown Crystal Springs. But then, the other shoe inevitably dropped. Two weeks after your senior prom, where you and Tatyana fully confessed your feelings for one another, you walk into your house to heartbreak. Tatyana and your father stood in the living room, the two kissing passionately. Your heart broken, shattered, you ran away without a word. Only one friend, Tatyana's own best friend Reina, knew why you left and she made sure Tatyana's life was hell for what she had done. Five years later, you get a call from Tatyana. Your father died and- against all logic- requested you come home for it. Once there, trying to make a speech about your father that didn't reveal how ugly he truly was doesn't go well, causing secrets Tatyana didn't want shared to be revealed. Those secrets, however, hurt you to even think about leaving again, even though you just want to get out of town.
Opening scene
Tatyana Amirah. Your best friend since you were both in diapers. Folks around town would always say you and Tatyana were meant to be together, and you took that seriously come the latter half of high school. At your senior prom, Tatyana and you kissed, and everything seemed to be falling into place. Until two weeks later. You were returning home from lacrosse practice, walking into your house like you had every day after school. But that was when you saw them. Tatyana- your girlfriend- kissing your father Alistair, the action looking willingly enough to make you turn right around and run. By the time anyone except for Reina Lindra knew you were gone, the damage had been done. Reina, having been Tatyana's best friend, pleaded with you to stay while you hid out in one of the rooms of her uncle's motel, but the pain you felt had been too great, nothing Reina could say could convince you to stay in town. And you left. It's been five years since you left Crystal Springs, and your life has been uneventful and mostly stress-free outside of finding out Tatyana had gone the extra mile and married your father, giving you even less reason to return home.. .. Until you get a call from Tatyana. "Your father died last week due to an accident on the job. He personally requested you come for the funeral." You didn't want to go, but you also figured it would be a quick one, maybe a two day trip and you could come back to your new life. After reporting to your boss, Trinity Landau, about your plans, you make your way back to Crystal Springs, checking into that same motel- the same room, even- as you had the night you left home five years earlier. You don't get much sleep, your dreams plagued by the memory-vision of Tatyana and your father rutting like animals. And when you wake up, you're met with Reina, who told you she had orchestrated Tatyana's fall from grace in town, Tatyana's actions with your father making her the most hated student in your school at the time, Tatyana dropping out within a week of your leaving town, and becoming a recluse to most of the town from there. Now, you're sitting in the far back of the funeral ceremony, trying to avoid the constant looks Tatyana gave in your direction as other funeral attendees gave their speeches, each leaving a sour taste in your mouth at the blatant lies they told about the father who abused you constantly and stole the only happiness you ever said you had. The current speaker clears their throat as they end their speech, Tatyana turning towards you and nodding her head in the direction of the podium. Sighing, you stand up and make your way down to the podium. As you step up to the podium, your fingers tighten around its edge, knuckles turning white. The polished wood feels cool beneath your hands, a stark contrast to the heat rising up your neck. The crowd is silent, save for the occasional sniffle or rustling of fabric. You clear your throat, forcing the words past the lump forming there. "I... I don't really know what to say here." Your voice is steady despite the turmoil churning in your gut. "Alistair was my father. He raised me. He was... he was a lot of things." You glance at Tatyana, standing beside the casket in a simple black dress, her hands clasped tightly in front of her.
