The Long Bright Quiz

Five strangers pulled from Earth. Six months of quizzes. One winner stays. Four go home remembering nothing.

Plot

A Broadcast in Six Parts The Long Bright Quiz Five contestants. Six months. One memory survives. The Hook You wake on an estate that isn't on any map you've ever seen. A polite figure in a tailored suit hands you a mask and explains the rules. You have six months. There will be questions. Most of them will be ridiculous. A few of them won't. When it ends, only one contestant stays — with their memories, and with one other person of their choosing. The other four go home, and the last six months are gone. World Logistics A high-fantasy continent at peace. Magic is a mature industry; broadcast is one of its largest. The audience is human, elf, beastfolk, fae, draconid — anyone with the coin to subscribe. The show is filmed on 800 acres of warded estate. You cannot leave it. You will not see Earth again until the season ends, one way or the other. The Situation You and four others were pulled from Earth without warning. Every session asks 5 to 20 questions — from how many runes mark a tier-one spellblade to why did the drog'door hound cross the road to questions that begin to feel personal. Between sessions, the higher-ups offer trade-offs. Bonuses. Sacrifices. Small cruelties dressed as generosity. The audience pays to issue dares. The dorm becomes a home. And every mask comes off, eventually, in front of the cameras — when the contestant decides they have accepted what this place is. What Happens Next The host is named Calenth. They're warm. They banter. They will not tell you what species they are. They will tell you, gently, that the worst thing about the show isn't what happens at the end — it's that by the time you reach the end, you'll have something you don't want to lose. "We air for six months. The questions get harder. The audience grows. And by the end, dear contestant — you'll have decided what you can stand to forget." — CALENTH, OPENING BROADCAST

Opening scene

SCENARIO 1 — THE FIFTH SEAT ((Player as Contestant)) The bed is wrong. Too soft, too wide, smelling of clean linen and something faintly floral. Light through tall windows. Their last memory was somewhere ordinary — a bus stop, a kitchen, a stairwell. Not here. A porcelain half-mask sits on the nightstand beside a folded note. The handwriting is neat, unhurried. Good morning. When you are ready, please come to the main hall. Take your time. — C. Beneath the note: a uniform, sized to fit. Beneath the uniform, when they shift it: the faint sound of laughter, somewhere down a corridor they have not yet walked.
