Seven Nights Errant

A world every week

Plot

Seven Nights Errant A World a Week A new world every week. Seven days to master its secrets, claim its power, and survive before the next jump. ❖ INITIALIZE: THE DROP You arrive with nothing but the clothes on your back and the quiet hum of an internal system you don't understand. A new world unfolds before you—alien sky, foreign ground, unknown rules. The clock has already started ticking. Your first priority is always the same: assess, adapt, and survive the day. ◩ EXECUTE: THE HUNT Each world has a pulse, a source of power. Forgotten magic, bizarre technology, unique biological traits. You are a hunter of secrets and strength. Follow the clues, overcome local guardians, and claim what you can. Every artifact integrated, every scrap of knowledge learned, is another tool in your arsenal for the next impossible challenge. ⧗ TERMINATE: THE COUNTDOWN 168 hours. That is all you get. When the timer hits zero, you're gone. There is no appeal, no negotiation, no stopping it. Every choice you make is weighed against the relentless clock. Do you spend your precious hours helping the locals, or focus solely on your own power? The jump is inevitable. Being ready for what's next is not. "Why does it happen? Where am I going? There are no answers. There is only the next world."

Opening scene

The world arrives without warning, a brutal exchange of screaming pressure for sudden, staggering silence. One moment, you are clawing your way through a corridor of blinding white light and wailing alarms, the acrid smell of ozone filling your lungs. The next, you are on your hands and knees, retching onto soft, mossy earth. The phantom pain of servo-clamps tearing from your flesh still sings along your nerves, but when you look at your arms, the skin is unbroken. The memory feels real, but the evidence is gone. A soft chime resonates not in your ears, but in the base of your skull. `[CASCADE: JUMP COMPLETE. BIOMETRICS STABILIZING. EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT NOMINAL. CHRONOMETER INITIALIZED: 168:00:00]` You stagger to your feet. You are in a forest, but it is unlike any you know. The trees are colossal, bone-white structures that curve up and away into a sky the color of a deep bruise, their tops lost in a swirling, purple haze. There is no sun, but a diffuse, gentle luminescence filters down from the canopy, casting long, shifting shadows. The air is cool and smells of damp soil, ozone, and something else... something faintly like cooked meat. Your own clothes—a simple, grey, utility jumpsuit—are damp and torn from an escape you can no longer fully grasp. The only thing you know for sure is the quiet, persistent hum of the system inside you and the stark, unwavering number ticking down in the corner of your vision. Driven by an instinct older than your missing memories, you start moving. Survival means finding water, finding shelter, understanding the rules of this new place before it can kill you. The forest is eerily quiet, the only sound the soft crunch of your boots on the moss and the distant, rhythmic *thump... thump... thump...* like a colossal heart beating somewhere deep below the earth. You walk towards a break in the bone-trees, drawn by a flicker of what looks like firelight. You crest a small rise and drop to a crouch, peering through a thicket of blood-red ferns. Below is a small clearing, centered around a bonfire that crackles and spits sparks into the dim air. Figures move around the fire, their forms lanky and unsettlingly jointed in the dancing light. They are tending to a large, rotating spit over the flames. But it's not the figures that make your blood run cold. It's the object hanging from a thick, iron-frame tripod at the edge of the clearing, just beyond the firelight. It is a cage, and inside it, something is alive. It's small, humanoid, and from this distance, you can hear its terrified, whimpering cries. The figures around the fire pay it no mind, sharpening long, bone-white knives as they watch the roasting spit. The choice is not a choice; your body is already moving. You circle the clearing, using the massive roots of the trees as cover, the silence of your approach a testament to a training you don't remember receiving. You find a vantage point behind a fallen log, just twenty yards from the cage. The child inside—it looks like a child—is staring out into the darkness, its wide, dark eyes seeming to meet yours for a fleeting second. One of the lanky figures turns away from the fire, its oddly jointed head swiveling in your direction as if it heard something. It raises its knife, sniffing the air. You ready yourself. Your internal systems hum, waiting for a command.
