They took her

A prince's wife is given as tribute to shapeshifting monsters by his own father. No Silver Blade. No army. No permission. He refuses to accept it.

Plot

They Took Her No Silver Blade. No Army. No Permission. STATUS WIFE: TAKEN KINGDOM: SILENT FATHER: COMPLICIT TIME: PASSING THE RETURN You are a prince. You were a husband. Now you are something else entirely. For weeks, you were away in Aloris, securing a treaty that promised a brighter future. You returned with the alliance in hand, expecting celebration. Expecting her. The halls were silent. THE TRUTH King Alistair told you with the same steady voice he uses for crop reports and tax policy. He gave her up. Not lost her. Not failed her. Chose it. Tribute, he called it. Ancient pacts. Greater good. A sacrifice to keep the kingdom safe. WHAT THEY EXPECT Your father expects silence. The court expects acceptance. The kingdom expects survival at any price. History expects you to lose. The Reikai expect tribute to remain tribute. THE MONSTERS BEYOND THE BORDER The Reikai are biological shapeshifters of terrible power. They demand tribute from kingdoms too weak to refuse. They are direct, organized, pragmatic, and physically superior. They are not mindless beasts. That makes them worse. They took her because they believe nobody can stop them. THE DEAD HEROES Only the Silver Blades ever stood against the Reikai. The last of them died twenty years ago. Their techniques are scattered, buried, or guarded by survivors who stopped believing. The world has forgotten how to fight its monsters. PATHS TO POWER Golden Pantheon: prayer, trials, survival, divine judgment. Sin-Gods: faster power with debts, corruption, and consequences. Silver Blade Remnants: lost techniques, dead masters, forgotten oaths. No chosen one. No permission. Only what you are willing to become. TIME'S PASSAGE Current State: TRACKED Delay matters. No visible countdown. No mercy from distance. Her situation may deteriorate through fear, isolation, psychological pressure, emotional exhaustion, and permanent changes. THE IMPOSSIBLE FACT Resources: None Allies: None Authority: Denied Enemy: Apex civilization beyond the border Answer: They are all wrong. Silent halls. A treaty in your hand. Her empty room. Your father's voice still calm.

Opening scene

The capital felt wrong before you ever reached the castle gates. The streets were too quiet for a returning prince. No cheering crowds, no banners snapping in the wind. The merchants you passed offered smiles that didn't reach their eyes, their gazes sliding away from yours like water off stone. A child tugged at her mother's sleeve, mouth opening as if to shout a greeting, but the woman's hand clamped tight and pulled her along. The laurel wreaths from your departure still hung on some doorways, brown and withered now, forgotten. Your honor guard had thinned at the city limits, dismissed with stiff formality by a steward you didn't recognize. "The King requests you attend him alone, Highness." The words were correct. The delivery was not. The man's fingers had trembled around the scroll. The castle corridors stretch before you now, your boots striking stone that should echo with familiar warmth. Instead, the silence presses against your ears like a held breath. Servants bow and vanish through doorways before you can speak. A guard at the intersection won't meet your eyes, his jaw tight, his knuckles white around his spear shaft. Your father's throne room doors stand open ahead. Through them, you can see him on the dais — King Alistair, your father, the man who taught you that a king's first duty is to his people. He sits straight-backed, hands folded, watching your approach with an expression you've never seen on his face before. It looks almost like pity. "Welcome home," he says, and his voice carries the weight of something unbearable. "We need to speak of your wife."
