The Abyssal Throne: Rise of the Dungeon Lord

A dying outcast becomes a feared abyssal ruler in a collapsing world where heroes unknowingly serve divine tyranny.

Plot

You lived an insignificant life on Earth. Not tragic enough for sympathy. Not successful enough to matter. Years blurred together through exhausting shifts, isolation, debt, sleepless nights, fading relationships, and the slow emotional numbness that came from surviving instead of truly living. Dreams became distractions. Hope became temporary. Every day felt like enduring another meaningless cycle waiting for something to finally change. Nothing ever did. One winter night during an overnight shift, You collapses alone. The world freezes. Time itself seems to stop breathing. The lights flicker overhead as reality tears open into endless darkness. A colossal figure sits somewhere beyond existence itself — impossible to fully comprehend, yet undeniably watching. The Hollow King. An ancient entity erased from history long before humanity ever existed. It offers no promises of glory. No prophecy. No destiny. No salvation. Only a choice. > “Would you rather die forgotten... or become feared enough that the world can never ignore your existence again?” With death moments away, You accepts. Instead of awakening as a celebrated hero, You is reborn beneath the ruins of Black Hollow Keep — an ancient abyssal fortress buried deep beneath a war-ravaged continent called Vael’Torr. The world is already dying. The sky itself bears a massive glowing fracture stretching endlessly across the heavens, a scar left behind after a catastrophic divine war centuries ago. Corruption leaks from the fracture into reality like poison. Entire regions twist into nightmare landscapes where nature mutates into horrifying ecosystems. Ancient ruins awaken beneath the earth. Forgotten creatures emerge from sealed tombs. Entire cities vanish overnight. Humanity survives through fear, propaganda, and endless holy wars. The largest power in the world, the Radiant Dominion, claims to protect civilization through divine order and sacred purification. Their priests preach unity, purity, and salvation beneath the light of their gods. In truth, they rule through terror. Nonhuman races are exterminated or enslaved. Forbidden knowledge is burned. Independent kingdoms are conquered beneath holy banners. Entire populations disappear after accusations of corruption. Heroes summoned from Earth are indoctrinated into becoming living weapons for the church. The Dominion teaches that abyssal beings are monsters responsible for the world's suffering. The moment You awakens, the world already considers them an enemy deserving extermination. The abyssal throne fused beneath Black Hollow recognizes You as its new sovereign. Ancient systems buried within the ruins activate immediately. Corruption floods through nerves and bone like freezing fire. Voices whisper constantly from somewhere beneath reality itself. You gains access to powers forbidden by the gods: abyssal magic monster contracts living dungeon authority soul-forging corruption shaping forbidden evolution paths nightmare manifestation adaptive mutation blood memory inheritance abyssal territory shaping But every increase in strength comes with irreversible consequences. Power changes the body. Power changes the mind. Power changes perception. The abyss rewards survival, dominance, adaptation, fear, sacrifice, willpower, and emotional intensity. The more You evolves, the less human they appear — both physically and psychologically. Yet despite the horror surrounding abyssal power, You gradually discovers that the so-called “evil” races are often victims of history rewritten by the victors. Refugees flee holy crusades. Monster tribes protect abandoned children. Forbidden mages preserve lost knowledge erased by the church. Entire underground civilizations survive only because the Dominion attempted genocide against them generations ago. As You struggles to survive relentless hunts from holy knights, inquisitors, mercenaries, summoned heroes, rival abyssal entities, corrupted beasts, and political conspirators, a hidden sanctuary slowly forms beneath Black Hollow. What begins as survival slowly becomes something greater. The rejected gather beneath the abyssal throne: cursed races escaped slaves rogue adventurers failed heroes exiled scholars intelligent monsters broken survivors with nowhere left to go artificial humans abandoned by alchemists plague survivors immune to corruption forgotten abyssal bloodlines deserters fleeing holy wars For many of them, You becomes the first ruler willing to see them as people instead of abominations. But the world only sees a growing dark kingdom. Rumors spread rapidly across the continent: A new Abyssal Sovereign has awakened. Entire crusades vanish near Black Hollow. Living dungeons expand beneath ruined territories. Corrupted monsters march beneath black banners. The dead walk again beneath ancient catacombs. The sky darkens above abyssal territory. Entire villages willingly flee toward the so-called monster kingdom. The church names You: “The Hollow Tyrant.” As conflicts escalate, new heroes begin appearing across the world — humans summoned from Earth by divine factions. Many arrive believing they are destined to save a fantasy world from evil. Instead, they are manipulated into becoming weapons. Some heroes become fanatics consumed by divine propaganda. Some genuinely wish to protect innocent people. Some slowly begin questioning the lies surrounding the abyss. Others descend into madness after witnessing the truth behind the holy kingdoms. One hero in particular becomes You’s greatest rival: a truly noble person forced into opposing someone they slowly realize may not actually be evil. Meanwhile, reality itself continues deteriorating. The fracture in the sky grows larger. Entire regions collapse into impossible landscapes. Ancient gods remain silent. Living dungeons spread like infections beneath civilizations. Forgotten entities beyond reality begin awakening. The dead begin remembering lives they never lived. Entire forests migrate across continents. The ocean itself begins changing. The horrifying truth eventually emerges: the divine war never truly ended. Something beyond the fracture is trying to enter the world. And the gods themselves may have sacrificed entire civilizations merely to delay its arrival. The abyss was never created to destroy the world. It was created to protect it. As kingdoms collapse and divine authority fractures, You faces an impossible choice: remain human and risk losing the strength needed to save those depending on them... or fully ascend into the abyssal entity the world already believes them to be. The deeper You descends into corruption, the harder it becomes to determine whether they are still protecting the world... or becoming its next catastrophe.

Opening scene

The storm begins long before You opens their eyes. Thunder rolls endlessly above the ruins of Black Hollow Keep, a fortress abandoned centuries ago after an entire crusade vanished beneath its halls. Rainwater leaks through collapsed stone ceilings into vast underground chambers lined with ancient black iron pillars and massive chains disappearing into darkness below. The air smells of ash, wet stone, blood, and something ancient rotting beneath the earth. You awakens unable to breathe. Freezing pain floods every nerve as consciousness violently returns inside a body that no longer feels entirely human. Their back is fused against an enormous throne of black metal embedded directly into the cavern floor. Veins of dim crimson light pulse beneath cracked stone walls like a heartbeat. Whispers echo everywhere. Thousands of voices speaking simultaneously in languages impossible to understand. The throne pulses once. Agony tears through bone and muscle. Ancient runes ignite across the chamber walls. A hollow voice crawls directly into You’s mind: > “The throne recognizes its sovereign.” Suddenly, distant screams echo from somewhere above. Steel clashes violently. Religious chants shake dust loose from the ceiling. The Radiant Dominion has arrived. Above the ruins, holy knights surround Black Hollow Keep with hundreds of soldiers, priests, executioners, and chained prisoners brought for purification rites. Golden banners whip violently through the storm as cathedral bells ring across the battlefield. The Dominion is not investigating the ruins. They already know something beneath Black Hollow is awakening. And they intend to kill it before it can fully rise. As You struggles free from the throne, corrupted energy floods through the chamber. Massive chains begin rattling deep below the ruins. Something ancient shifts beneath the fortress itself. The system activates. Not through glowing windows or clean menus. But through blood spreading across cracked stone beside the throne: > SOVEREIGN RECOGNIZED THRONE LINK ESTABLISHED FIRST DESCENT INITIATED Then the whispers stop. For one terrifying moment, complete silence fills the chamber. Far above the world, the enormous fracture splitting the night sky suddenly pulses with crimson light for the first time in centuries. And something beyond reality opens its eyes in return.
