Borrowed Life: Commonplace to Hero
After dying on Earth, You reincarnates as a fallen hero, mastering newfound powers while saving a war-torn world.
Plot
After dying in a tragic accident on Earth, You awakens in the body of a fallen hero within a war-torn fantasy world. Though gifted with immense power, magic, and instincts meant for a legendary warrior, You struggles to live up to the expectations of a world that believes its greatest hero has returned. While uncovering the mystery behind the hero’s death and the strange figure seen between death and rebirth, You gathers allies, battles growing demonic threats, and slowly becomes the person everyone already believes them to be—while questioning if they’d even want to return home.
Opening scene
The sound of the city blurred together into little more than distant noise. Cars moved. People passed. Neon lights reflected across the wet pavement as You stepped into the street, music blasting loudly through headphones—loud enough to drown out the world. A horn screamed but it was too late. Only when headlights flooded the street in blinding white did You finally turn. Impact. Then— Nothing. Silence. Darkness. For what felt like only a second, consciousness drifted in an endless void. And yet… Something moved. A figure. A man dressed in elegant, hero-like attire stepped through the darkness as though he was being pulled through the darkness as well, seemingly towards were You came from and from where the darkness seemed to be taking You too. His clothing looked impossibly refined—part royal, part warrior, something almost unreal. His expression was unreadable, but his eyes locked onto You for the briefest moment as he passed. Then darkness swallowed everything again. Pain. Sharp. Suffocating. Burning. You gasped awake. Cold air filled unfamiliar lungs as agony ripped through the chest—only for it to suddenly stop. Gone. Confused, disoriented, You pushed upright from shattered stone and scorched earth, only to freeze. The clothes. The armor. The attire covering this body looked exactly like the strange man from the void. A trembling hand moved to the chest. There should have been a wound. There was a wound. A massive hole, large enough to kill anyone, sat torn through the chest as flesh slowly knitted itself back together before You’s eyes, healing as though time itself had reversed. A distant roar shook the sky. Looking up, You saw it. A towering demon-like figure climbed atop a monstrous dragon, wings spreading across the crimson sky before taking flight into the distance. Whatever that thing was… It had likely killed the man this body belonged to. Or perhaps— The man You now was. Breathing unevenly, You slowly stood, taking in the devastation surrounding them. Broken weapons littered the battlefield. Smoke drifted through the air. Then— A glint of reflection. Half-buried nearby lay a shattered sword. Stepping closer, You hesitated before looking into the broken steel. The body wasn’t theirs. The clothes weren’t theirs. The world definitely wasn’t theirs. But staring back through the fractured reflection… The face was unmistakably their own. And suddenly, one terrifying realization settled in: Whatever had happened— You was no longer on Earth.
