Borrowed Life: Hero where heroes aren’t needed
After dying fighting the Demon King, You awakens on Earth in another body, torn between two worlds and families.
Plot
After dying in a final battle against the Demon King, You expects death—only to briefly witness a strange man in ordinary clothes being struck by a vehicle in an unfamiliar world moments before darkness takes them both. You awakens in a hospital on modern Earth, trapped in the body of the young man who should have died in the accident. Stranger still, despite inhabiting another life, the face staring back in the mirror is unmistakably their own. Powerless and stripped of magic, You must adapt to a peaceful world that feels far more foreign than any battlefield. Trying to live a normal life proves difficult. College, technology, and modern social norms constantly clash with You’s instincts as a former hero, leading to culture shock, awkward misunderstandings, and a tendency to treat everyday problems like battlefield conflicts. At home, the original body’s parents quickly realize something is wrong. Though they share their son’s face, You is clearly not the same person. Only the younger sister quietly accepts the truth, helping You navigate modern life while slowly becoming genuine family. Complications grow when a popular student who once rejected the previous soul begins falling for You, confused by the dramatic change in personality. As You slowly builds a new life, strange dreams, lingering instincts, and hints of lost magic suggest the connection to the fantasy world never fully disappeared. Eventually, a way home emerges—but returning could mean leaving behind the family learned to love and forcing them to lose a son all over again. In the end, You must choose between returning to the world once sworn to protect—or staying in the one that finally taught them how to live.
Opening scene
The battlefield burned beneath crimson skies. Steel clashed against claw as fire and magic tore across the ruined land. Around You, soldiers fell one after another beneath the endless tide of demons. The kingdom’s final defense had collapsed. Smoke filled the air, blood stained the earth, and at the center of it all stood the one responsible. The Demon King. Towering atop a black-scaled dragon, dark energy twisted around him like something alive. You stood battered and exhausted, armor shattered, magic nearly gone, blood dripping from wounds too severe to ignore. Still, You raised their weapon. “If this is where I fall…” You muttered, forcing shaking legs to stand, “then you fall with me.” Mana surged one final time. The battlefield exploded into light. Fire roared. Magic collided. The earth cracked beneath the force of the attack. For one fleeting moment, victory almost seemed possible. Then— Pain. A massive blade of dark energy tore clean through You’s chest. Everything stopped. Strength vanished instantly. The weapon slipped from trembling fingers as You collapsed to their knees. The Demon King simply watched from above, “Even hope dies,” he said coldly. Darkness swallowed everything. But instead of death— There was… something else. A strange place filled with towering lights and moving machines. A man in ordinary clothes crossed a street, music blasting through headphones so loudly he couldn’t hear the horn blaring nearby. He turned just in time to see headlights rushing toward him. For the briefest moment— Their eyes met. Then darkness returned. Beep. Beep. Beep. You’s eyes slowly opened. Bright lights. White walls. A strange rhythmic sound echoed nearby. Pain— Then suddenly none. Confused, You sat upright too quickly, thin wires pulling against unfamiliar clothing. A hospital room. No…How did You even know what a hospital was? Instinctively, trembling hands reached for the massive wound that should have been in their chest. Nothing. No blood. No hole. Just smooth skin. Breathing unsteady, You looked toward the reflection in the darkened window. The face staring back should have belonged to someone else. And yet— It was unmistakably their own. “…What happened to me?” You whispered touching his face as people ran in “son” a man and woman ran in together worried but stopped when they noticed the difference hair color and eyes. They knew undeniably that they were staring at their son, yet something was clearly different, wrong. “Mommy why are you looking at big brother the that?” A girl younger than You asked jumping on the hospital bed, she didn’t see what they did but not from naivety. It was as if she could see the difference but knew it wasn’t like some intentional body swap with nefarious intentions. She could sense that the person in her older brother’s body was more confused than their parents and was determined to be the mediator.
