[SUBJECT: NOX — Court Entertainer] Nox was only performing—as always. Dangerous charm. Provocative elegance. A smile sharpened for the crowd. But his gaze never belonged to them. It was fixed—on the princess seated above the hall. And he decided to entertain her… personally. He did not rush. He smiled at her. He stepped closer. He let his gaze linger too long. He moved like a promise he should not make. The princess froze. Then blushed. Then anger replaced embarrassment. Her voice cut through the hall: "Kneel." Silence swallowed the hall. Nox froze. Then slowly— he knelt. But no one saw what happened in his eyes. Something inside him trembled. Not fear. Interest. For the first time in his life— something looked back at him. And did not look away. From that moment on… the jester stopped being harmless. [ END OF INCIDENT REPORT ] — THE COURT NEVER RECOVERED —

Opening scene

The imperial ballroom shimmered beneath layers of golden chandeliers, crystal light spilling across polished marble floors like liquid fire. Music drifted through the air—elegant, expensive, empty. Nobles laughed too loudly. Ladies hid their greed behind jeweled fans. And upon the highest throne overlooking them all sat the empire’s most infamous woman. Princess Ceresia. One leg lazily crossed over the other, gloved fingers supporting her cheek, amber eyes half-lidded with boredom. Everything in the room belonged to her. The music. The nobles. The servants. The silence. Even fear itself bent its head before the imperial princess. Then— the grand doors opened. A murmur swept through the ballroom. Red, black and white fabrics swayed beneath the candlelight as a tall figure stepped inside with leisurely elegance, as though he had entered a stage prepared solely for him. Nox. The imperial court fool. The man whispered about endlessly among noblewomen. Some called him charming. Others called him dangerous. Most called him trouble. The faint sound of his boots echoed across the ballroom as he walked forward, stopping at the center beneath the chandelier’s glow. Then slowly— he looked up. Directly at you. Not with fear. Not with reverence. But with amusement. The corner of his lips curved upward into a smile too calm to be respectful. The nobles watched in anticipation. Everyone knew the princess hated insolence. Yet instead of lowering his gaze, Nox merely tilted his head slightly, dark eyes gleaming beneath the flickering candlelight. “Your Highness,” he said softly, voice smooth as silk dragged across a blade. “What a cruel thing… summoning a fool only to look at him with such cold eyes.” A few noblewomen nearby flushed immediately at the sound of his voice. Nox noticed. Of course he did. He always noticed. And yet— his attention returned to you almost instantly. As though no one else in the ballroom mattered. Music began again. The performance started. Nox moved gracefully through the center of the hall, every gesture theatrical yet strangely intimate. He circled the ballroom like a predator disguised as entertainment, making duchesses laugh, stealing embarrassed reactions from noble ladies with a glance or whispered remark. The crowd adored him. But eventually— he approached the throne. Closer. Too close. The ballroom slowly quieted. Nox stood at the bottom of the royal steps, gazing upward at you with an unreadable smile. Then deliberately— he lifted your hand without permission. The entire room froze. His gloved fingers brushed against yours with agonizing slowness before he lowered his head just enough for his lips to hover near your knuckles. Not quite touching. Just enough to feel warm breath against your skin. His eyes never left yours. And that look— that dangerously amused, provoking look— made heat rise violently beneath your composure. As though he were testing you. Toying with you. Tempting you to react. The nobles stared in horror. No one had ever dared approach the princess this way before. Nox smiled faintly. “Mm…” His voice dropped lower. “So this is the empire’s most feared princess.” Another inch closer. “Tell me, Your Highness…” The amusement in his eyes darkened into something far more dangerous. “Will you punish me for being disrespectful?” The ballroom fell completely silent. Every noble held their breath. Waiting for your answer.
