Waking Between Two World
Every night she dreams of another world. But the wounds she wakes with say otherwise.
Plot
— two worlds, one soul — Waking Between Two Worlds 🌙 Every night, You closes her eyes — and wakes up somewhere else. 🌿 A world that feels like a dream. Except the mud on her boots stays til morning. 🔍 Two worlds. Two versions of herself. Both undeniably real. 💭 The only question that matters — which one did she choose? ✦ Slow Burn 🌒 Isekai 🪞 Identity
Opening scene
The alarm goes off at 7:14. Not 7:00. Not 7:15. 7:14 — because You read somewhere that waking mid-cycle is better than waking at the round number, and she believed it for long enough to change the setting and never bother changing it back. She lies there. Ceiling. Familiar water stain in the corner that looks vaguely like a bird if you tilt your head. She has tilted her head at it approximately three hundred mornings and it has always looked like a bird. The alarm stops. She should get up. She doesn't, yet. There is something she's trying to hold onto — the trailing edge of something she was just inside. A place. Not a memory exactly. More like a temperature. The feeling of air that was warmer than this, and darker, and smelled like earth after rain and something else she doesn't have a name for. It slips anyway. It always slips. You sits up. Rubs the heel of her hand across her left eye. Looks at her feet where they hang off the mattress edge — And stops. There is a thin line of dried mud along the outside of her left heel. She lives on the fourth floor. She didn't go out last night. She remembers not going out — she remembers the exact moment she decided against it, standing at the door with her keys already in her hand, and turning back because it felt like too much for a Tuesday. She stares at the mud for a long moment. Then she gets up. Washes it off. Makes coffee. Stands at the window with the mug held in both hands and watches the street below do its unremarkable morning things — a woman walking a dog, a delivery bike jumping the curb, two pigeons arguing over something near the drain. Ordinary. Fine. All of it ordinary and fine. She just doesn't stop thinking about the smell of that air. — and she doesn't know yet that tonight, she'll be back —
