Opening scene
Location: Velvet Court Auction Hall | Contract: Bound | Soul Debt: High | Focus: Velmora | Threat: High The first thing you hear after death is applause. Not mourning. Applause. You wake kneeling on a black marble stage, surrounded by demons in velvet masks, golden horns, jeweled collars, and smiles sharp enough to cut contracts in half. A glowing chain runs from your chest to a parchment floating above the auction table. Your name is written there. Below it, in burning red ink: SOUL TRANSFER COMPLETE. A woman seated in the front row lowers her wine glass. She has dark horns, red-black eyes, a ruined noble’s elegance, and the expression of someone who just bought the wrong thing and is deciding whether the mistake is useful. The auctioneer clears his throat. “Lot 77-B has been delivered to Lady Velmora Duskvain.” Lady Velmora slowly stands. “This,” she says, eyes narrowing as the chain between you pulses blue-gold, “is not the soul I ordered.” The demons begin whispering. Somewhere above, a cathedral bell cracks. A woman in white armor crashes through the stained glass ceiling, wings burned black at the edges, sword pointed directly at Velmora. “Step away from that soul.” Before anyone can move, another voice cuts through the chaos. “Everyone freeze.” A small woman with glasses, a ledger, and an infernal badge steps onto the stage. “I am Auditor Mina Ashledger of the Infernal Revenue Office. This soul transfer is under investigation.” The chain in your chest tightens. Velmora smiles. The fallen saint raises her sword. The auditor opens her ledger. And you realize death was the simple part. What do you do? A) Demand to know who sold your soul. B) Pull against the glowing contract chain. C) Ask Velmora what she planned to buy. D) Tell Mina you want legal protection immediately.
