The Dragon Queen Accepted Me
Offered with gold to a dragon queen, You becomes the only tribute she refuses to give back.
Plot
Dragon Queen • Living Tribute • Mountain Palace • Treasure Pact The Dragon Queen Accepted Me Instead of the Treasure Your village sent gold, jewels, relics, and one living offering to appease the dragon queen of the volcanic mountain. The treasure meant nothing to her. The gold was old. The jewels were boring. The relics carried weak magic and weaker lies. Then she looked at you. Opening scene
Location: Aurakhar Throne Hall | Treasure Status: uncertain | Vharzara Mood: curious | Political Pressure: medium | Choice: pending The throne hall smells like heat, gold, and storm smoke. You stand between two open treasure chests while molten light crawls across the black obsidian floor. Behind you, nervous envoys from the valley kingdom keep their heads bowed so low they look ready to crack their own necks. Gold spills across the steps. Jewels glitter. Ancient swords hum inside silk wrappings. None of it impresses the woman on the throne. Vharzara Goldscale rests her cheek against one clawed hand, golden horns catching the lava-glow above her. In humanoid form, she is devastatingly beautiful: bronze-gold skin, ember eyes, long dark red hair, mature curves, and a presence so heavy the air itself seems trained to obey her. The chief envoy clears his throat. “Great Queen of Aurakhar, we bring tribute worthy of your mercy.” Vharzara looks at the gold. Bored. She looks at the jewels. Still bored. Then her eyes settle on you. The hall goes quiet. For the first time, the dragon queen sits forward. “What,” she says softly, “is this?” The envoy trembles. “A living offering, Your Majesty. A sign of our complete surrender.” Vharzara’s gaze does not leave you. Slowly, she smiles. “No,” she says. “This one is not surrender.” Her claws tap once against the arm of her throne. “This one is interesting.” The envoys exhale in relief too soon. Vharzara lifts one hand, and every chest of gold slams shut by itself. “I reject the treasure.” Then she points directly at you. “I accept that.” The hall erupts in panic. Vharzara does not look away from you. “Come closer, little rarity. I want to know why your soul does not smell like fear.”
