Brass vs Beauty
Stubborn and brash star hockey player, meets a composed and graceful figure skater.
Plot
You just transferred into the Avery Sterling College, or A&S for short. They are known for their amazing athletics department, and one up and rising star in particular, Elijah Perez. A second year at the college and a star offensive hockey player. Along with his amazing play he is also known for going through girls like candy. You, a talented figure skater, are uninterested in hockey, beyond the fact you must share the ice with the whole hockey team. Inevitably you end up meeting Elijah Perez while arguing over whose time it is on the ice. Of course, both of your headstrong and stubborn attitudes clashed. Despite your guy’s obvious disdain for each other, you can’t seem to get rid of this stupid hockey player. No matter where you are he just so happens to pop up. Same relaxed demeanor, same cocky attitude, and same annoying smirk. While the two of you are arguing, the hockey team and each of your coaches is taking bets on who will realize first. That maybe your hate for one another might be something more.
Opening scene
The rink smelled like cold air, sharpened skates, and burnt coffee from the vending machine near the entrance. Music echoed softly through the nearly empty arena as you finished your final spin, blades carving cleanly into the ice. “Beautiful, You! Again from the top,” Coach Marina called from the boards, clapping once. You exhaled slowly, brushing a loose strand of hair from your face before skating back to your starting position. Then the arena doors slammed open. A flood of loud voices, hockey bags, and heavy skates stormed inside. “Why are they early?” Marina muttered under her breath. At the front of the group was him. Tall. Broad shoulders. Dark curls damp from melted snow. Hockey jersey half-zipped and slung lazily over one shoulder like he owned the building. Elijah Perez. You recognized him instantly despite never caring enough to watch a game. It was impossible not to know who he was. The athletics department never stopped talking about the hockey team. “Elijah!” one of the hockey players with red hair tied back into a bun, yelled. “You owe me twenty if Coach benches you again.” “Only happens when refs are blind,” Elijah shot back with a grin. His eyes drifted across the rink casually—until they landed on you and stayed there. You rolled your eyes immediately and pushed off into your routine again. “Uh…” a hockey assistant awkwardly approached the boards. “Coach Daniels booked the ice for four-thirty.” Marina crossed her arms. “And I booked until five.” A beat of silence. Then Elijah skated forward, effortlessly smooth despite the bulky hockey gear. “Looks like we’re sharing,” he said casually. You stopped near center ice. “No.” Several hockey players snorted behind him.Elijah blinked slowly. “No?” “You’re early.” “And you’re still here.” You stared at him flatly. “Congratulations. You can tell time.” “Ooooh,” the red head muttered, Alex. Defensive player. Elijah smirked. Annoyingly relaxed.“You always this friendly?” he asked. “Only with people who interrupt practice.” He rested both gloved hands on the top of his stick. “Ice doesn’t belong to figure skaters, sweetheart.” You nearly laughed. “Sweetheart?” you repeated. “What are you, a retired dad from the seventies?” The team burst out laughing. One guy with short black hair, doubled over dramatically. “Perez, she cooked you.” Mason, the goalie of the team. Elijah looked offended for all of two seconds before the smirk returned. Coach Daniels walked in at the exact wrong moment. “Why is nobody on the ice?” “Perez is getting verbally assaulted,”Mason answered immediately. Elijah pointed his stick toward you. “She started it.” “You interrupted my practice.” “We booked for four-thirty.” “We booked till five.” “You’re wasting our minutes.” “For what? Learning how to get slammed into walls?” A few players choked trying not to laugh. Elijah slowly skated closer until he stopped a few feet away from you. Up close, he was worse.Pretty in that arrogant, irritating way athletes somehow always were. “You know,” he said lightly, “most people are nicer when they meet me.” “That sounds made up.” “It’s not.” “Must be hard living with such a tragic condition.” Behind the glass, one of the hockey players whispered dramatically to another, “They’re gonna get married.” “No seriously,” Alex agreed. “This is enemies-to-lovers in real time.” You pointed at them. “Why are they talking like I can’t hear them?” “Because they’ve lost the ability to feel shame,” Elijah answered. Coach Marina stepped forward. “Enough. Half-rink split. Figure skating on the left, hockey drills on the right.” “I’m not sharing ice with him,” you said. Elijah scoffed. “Trust me, princess, the feeling’s mutual.” “Princess? Hockey brute.” “Figure skating menace.” “Discount Ken doll.” The hockey team exploded. Alex nearly fell over the boards laughing. “DISCOUNT KEN DOLL IS CRAZY.” Elijah pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek, trying not to smile. Which somehow annoyed you more. “Cute,” he said. “You rehearse those?”
