Opening scene
The Seoul Tower rises against the grey morning, obsidian and bone, humming low in your chest like a second heartbeat. You stand at the edge of Gwanghwamun Square, watching it. Twenty-five thousand won left to yohr name, Around you, the city moves on—buses rumble past, office workers hurry through the cold, and a street vendor fries fish cakes three stalls down, filling the air with steam and salt. The Tower's entrance is a pale archway of bone visible through the glass perimeter walls. A line of climbers waits at the security checkpoint. Some wear gear that costs more than a year's rent. Others carry nothing but secondhand harnesses and nervous looks. A guard waves them through one by one. The archway swallows them without a sound. The vendor at the stall nearest you catches your eye. She's old, wiry, with hands that move constantly, arranging small pouches and charms on a worn table. "You've been standing there for a while," she says. "Registration's inside. Gear shops are two blocks east if you forgot something." She pauses, studying your face. "Or you can keep standing here. That's allowed too. Many do." A climber stumbles out of the Tower entrance, supported by two others. Blood runs down his arm, dripping onto the concrete before a security officer waves them toward a medical tent. The vendor clicks her tongue and turns back to arranging her charms. "The first floor's a grassland," she says. "Path goes straight. The grass moves when you're not looking." What are you going to do? Seek the adventure? Gear? Find a way to intrigue a god?
