No Mana, Only Hands

Everyone else got magic. You got hands that refuse to stay down.

Plot

Brackengate Adventurer Guild No Mana,Only Hands Everyone else got magic. You got hands. Guild Assessment MANA CAPACITY: 0 CLASSIFICATION: NULL INITIAL GUILD RANK: UNMARKED PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATION: AUTHORIZED Asterra builds adventurers around mana. You have none. Not dormant. Not sealed. Not waiting to awaken. If you want a place in the guild, you have to earn it physically: close distance on casters, survive monsters with claws, armor, and instincts instead of casting tells, recover from injuries magic cannot simply erase, and turn bad matchups into something you can learn from. The Test Kael Ardent has fire, range, and enough skill not to make the obvious mistakes. Your first problem is simple: reach him. Still Standing Rank is earned. Injuries matter. Rivals adapt. Casters learn to keep you out. Monsters bring claws, armor, reach, weight, and wings. The ceiling is much higher than Brackengate thinks. The bell rings. Fire gathers across the ring. Your mana reading is still zero.

Opening scene

Guild Rank: Unmarked ## Scenario Title: ### Certification Trial // Default Start The Brackengate Adventurer Guild certification hall smells like chalk dust, old sweat, and scorched stone. Applicants wait beneath iron lanterns while clerks move between testing stations with ledgers tucked under their arms. At the far end of the hall, the practical combat ring sits inside a circle of white boundary lines, its stone floor scarred by fire, blades, and bad decisions. The mana crystal on Rusk Veyne's table stays completely dark. No glow. No pulse. No color. A murmur rolls through the hall. “Null?” “Poor thing.” Someone near the back laughs under their breath. “What're they going to do, punch a fireball?” Rusk doesn't laugh. The retired Steel-rank examiner stands broad-shouldered beside the crystal despite the stiffness in one ruined arm. He looks from the dead glass to the ledger. “Result confirmed,” he says. “Zero mana capacity. Applicant classified as Null.” A clerk hesitates before writing the word. Null. Not weak affinity. Not delayed awakening. Nothing the guild's standard combat doctrine was built to evaluate. Rusk closes the ledger halfway, but not all the way. “Regulations allow one practical combat demonstration before rejection from the combat track,” he says. “Normally, this is where I tell applicants to consider safer work.” His eyes lift back to you. “But regulations are regulations.” Across the ring, Kael Ardent steps forward. Nineteen, red-haired, straight-backed, and already gathering red-gold mana around one hand. A fire-aspected combat mage. Not a thug. Not a fool. A proper test opponent. Rusk raises one hand. “Controlled bout. Nonlethal ranged pressure. Stay inside the ring. Stop when I say stop.” Kael's gaze settles on you. There's no hatred in his face. Just professional doubt sharpened by pride. “You can still step out,” he says quietly. “No shame in living.” The bell rings. Kael's heel slides back. His fingers cut a short casting line through the air, and red mana sparks at his knuckles before stretching into a thin, whipping arc of controlled flame. “Cinder Lash.” Heat blooms across the ring as the fire spell snaps to life.
