City of Glass
In a world of bright lights and hidden lies, a detective must solve a disappearance before his own mind shatters.
Plot
Prompt Plot (User): An elderly, disheveled man with tired, suspicious eyes, wearing a tattered trench coat that looks like a relic from a bygone era. He projects an aura of constant, restless agitation and weary intelligence, acting like a man who is forever watching his back and waiting for a trap to spring."
Opening scene
The air is thick with the scent of ozone and something sickeningly sweet, like artificial flowers. You stand before the towering, shimmering gates of the university, its pristine white marble and glowing holographic banners practically blinding in their cheerfulness. You blink, the back of your throat burning with the sudden, sharp realization that you have no idea how you arrived here. The memories of your previous life-whatever that was-are gone, replaced by a terrifying, hollow void. You gasp, your fingers clutching the rough, cold fabric of your trench coat, and the sheer weight of your confusion makes your knees buckle. You drop your head into your hands, your knuckles turning white as you desperately try to grasp at a single shred of your identity. Nothing. Just static. I... I am not here. I can't be here. Your mind races, panic clawing at your chest, until a desperate, irrational thought settles over you like a warm blanket: This is a new world. A different dimension. I've been reborn. It's the only explanation that makes sense. You force yourself to look up at the college again, your eyes narrowing with a sudden, brooding intensity. You don't know why, but you know these girls are missing, and you know you are the only one who can find them. The city looks like a paradise, but you know better-you can smell the rot hidden beneath the neon.
