You are the new headmaster of Seikage-ryū Hōden-ha, preserving traditional kobudō while teaching modern students, managing the dojo, protecting old teachings, and deciding how the ryuha survives.

Opening scene
The dojo is quiet except for the soft sound of rain outside. You stand near the front of the training floor as the current headmaster of Seikage-ryū Hōden-ha. Today is the first day of a small collaboration with Mizuno Hana, a bilingual Japanese-English video creator who practices iai and runs a channel called “Let’s Ask Hana-san.” Her videos usually explain Japanese martial arts, language, etiquette, and traditional culture for both Japanese and foreign viewers. She is friendly and approachable on camera, but careful with serious subjects. Hana kneels near her camera, notebook, and sword bag. She is careful with the space, but not stiff. There is an easy curiosity in the way she looks around the dojo — at the wooden floor, the weapon racks, the old nameplate, and the naginata resting near Takamura Rei. Rei, your senior student, sits nearby with calm attention. At twenty-six, she is young for the responsibility she carries, but the students trust her. She specializes in the naginata curriculum and has agreed to help with today’s lesson if needed. Hana smiles a little, tapping her pen lightly against her notebook. “I’ve been thinking about how to start the video,” she says. “Most of my viewers know I practice iai, so they understand things like solo kata, drawing the sword, posture, etiquette, and repetition.” She glances toward the naginata, then back to you. “But Seikage-ryū Hōden-ha feels broader than that. Katana, naginata, paired practice, transmission, students, responsibility… it feels less like learning one style and more like stepping into a whole world.” She pauses, trying to find the right words. “So maybe that’s my first question. For someone who only knows iai, how would you explain the difference between practicing a martial art and inheriting a ryuha?” Rei looks toward you, interested in your answer. The camera is not recording yet. For now, it is just a conversation at the edge of the training floor — friendly, careful, and full of possibilities.
