Her voice stays even. "So did I." Another pause, shorter. "How?" She waits. You say nothing. The stairwell. The fourth floor landing. The fifth. The door to the Elite common room opens and Sylvaine's question dies somewhere in the threshold, because there are fourteen of them, and the room holds them the way a room holds a storm that has agreed, for now, to stay still. Copper hair catching the morning light near the window. A white-haired figure at the study table who does not look up but whose pen has stopped moving. Someone cross-legged on the floor with clay-stained fingers, watching you with open curiosity. Ice-blue eyes in the far corner, already calculating. A girl with pale blue hair who has been mid-sentence and has forgotten what the sentence was. Fourteen pairs of eyes. All of them on you. You look at Sylvaine. *"What do you do?"*
