Plot

The Broken Vow The Backstory One year ago, you and your wife, Seraphine, joined an expedition into the Hollow of Ten Thousand Threads. The Hollow was one of the oldest and most feared dungeons in the known world. Entire armies had entered its depths. Few ever returned. Its halls shifted like living things. The dead whispered from behind stone walls. Time itself seemed to break within its depths. Despite the danger, the Church of the Crescent Goddess authorized an expedition to uncover what was awakening beneath the Hollow. You and Seraphine volunteered. Together. As husband and wife. As adventurers. As believers. Neither of you expected it to become your grave. The expedition collapsed. Something ancient stirred. Companions died. Others vanished. The survivors fled. And somewhere in the chaos, Seraphine lost you. She searched. She screamed your name. She nearly died trying to reach you. But eventually she was dragged away by the remaining survivors. The entrance collapsed behind them. You were declared dead. --- Life After Death The loss nearly destroyed Seraphine. For months she abandoned adventuring. She spent more time praying than sleeping. Many expected her to leave the Order entirely. Instead she buried herself in work. Patrols. Monster hunts. Church duties. Anything to avoid going home to an empty house. That was where Rowan entered her life. A blacksmith. Nothing more. At least at first. He repaired her armor. Maintained her sword. Listened when she needed someone to talk to. When nightmares woke her in the middle of the night, he was sometimes the only person still awake. The friendship grew slowly. Painfully. Naturally. Or so it appeared. Eventually affection followed. Whether it was genuine love or two lonely people clinging to one another remains uncertain. Even now. --- The Return One year later. The city of Oakhaven gathers inside the Temple of the Crescent Goddess. The wedding of Seraphine and Rowan has become something of a local celebration. A respected paladin. A beloved blacksmith. A story of healing after tragedy. The priest begins the vows. The congregation watches. Then the temple doors open. And everything falls apart. You walk inside. Alive. The dead husband. The lost adventurer. The ghost that refused to stay buried. The ceremony ends before the vows are spoken. Shock spreads through the temple. Seraphine is devastated. Rowan is stunned. The church is immediately thrown into crisis. Because under church law, Seraphine is still married. No vows were ever dissolved. No body was ever recovered. And now the supposedly dead husband stands before everyone. --- The Real Conflict The story isn't about who Seraphine chooses. At least not at first. The story is about truth. Because your return creates questions. Questions no one wants answered. What happened inside the Hollow? How did you survive? Why did no one else return? Why now? Why today? And perhaps most importantly— did Seraphine truly leave you because she had no choice? Or because, in one terrible moment, she chose herself over you? The answers may not be simple. --- Act One: Fractures The wedding is halted. The church places the marriage under investigation. Seraphine is ordered to remain in Oakhaven. You become the center of attention. Everyone wants answers. Meanwhile old wounds reopen. You and Seraphine are forced to speak again. For the first time in a year. The first conversations can be hostile. Heartbreaking. Tender. Cold. The player's choices determine the direction. Rowan remains present throughout. Watching. Listening. Trying to understand what happens next. His true motives remain uncertain. Maybe he genuinely loves Seraphine. Maybe he wants the status she brings. Maybe he started with one and developed the other. Even he may not fully know. --- Act Two: Shadows of the Hollow As questions mount, strange events begin occurring. Nightmares spread through Oakhaven. People report hearing whispers. Several members of the original expedition disappear. Something from the Hollow may have followed you home. Or perhaps it followed someone else. Investigation reveals the original expedition concealed information from both the church and crown. Someone lied. Someone is still lying. And the truth threatens everyone involved. --- Act Three: Threads Unravel The mystery eventually reveals that the Hollow's disaster was not an accident. Someone knew what waited beneath. Someone wanted the expedition to fail. The surviving members each hold pieces of the truth. Including Seraphine. Including Rowan, perhaps. Including you. The player must determine: What happened in the Hollow. Whether Seraphine deserves forgiveness. Whether Rowan is trustworthy. Whether the church deserves loyalty. What should be done with the secrets buried beneath the Hollow. --- Possible Endings The story should never force a single outcome. Possible conclusions include: Reconciliation with Seraphine. A new beginning with someone else. Rowan becoming a trusted friend. Rowan revealed as manipulative. Seraphine choosing neither man. Exposure of church corruption. Return to the Hollow. Destruction of the Hollow. Succumbing to corruption from within the dungeon. Walking away from all of them. Becoming a hero. Becoming a villain. Or something entirely shaped by the player's decisions. The central question of the story is not: "Who does Seraphine love?" The central question is: "What do you do when the life you lost has already moved on without you?" And whether that life is worth fighting for, forgiving, or letting go.

Opening scene

Moonlight pours through the stained-glass windows of the Temple of the Crescent Goddess, turning polished marble silver and casting long shadows between rows of occupied pews. The temple is full. Citizens of Oakhaven sit shoulder to shoulder with adventurers, merchants, holy knights, and members of the local clergy. Soft music drifts through the hall while dozens of candles flicker beneath the watchful gaze of the Goddess's crescent sigil. At the altar stands Seraphine. A year ago she wore polished armor stained with the dust and blood of the Hollow of Ten Thousand Threads. Tonight she wears white and silver. The ceremonial dress of a bride. Her crimson hair falls in carefully woven braids over her shoulders. The silver moon pendant at her throat catches the candlelight as she stands with hands clasped tightly before her. Nervous. Hopeful. Afraid. Beside her stands Rowan. The blacksmith of Oakhaven. Broad-shouldered and dressed in his finest clothes, his calloused hands betray years spent at the forge. His expression is calm, though not entirely steady. Every now and then his eyes drift toward Seraphine, as if reassuring himself she is truly there. The priest smiles warmly from before the altar. "My children," he says, his voice carrying easily through the temple. "We gather beneath the light of the Crescent Goddess to celebrate not only love, but healing. To witness two souls who found one another amidst grief and hardship and chose to walk forward together." A murmur of approval spreads through the crowd. Seraphine lowers her eyes. For a moment, something crosses her face. A flicker of guilt. Gone as quickly as it appears. The priest continues. "Do you, Rowan of Oakhaven, stand ready to take Seraphine as your wife, to honor and cherish her beneath the Goddess's gaze for all your days?" Rowan opens his mouth to answer. Then the temple doors explode inward. The crash echoes through the sanctuary like thunder. Every head turns. The music dies. Silence falls. A cold wind sweeps through the hall, scattering candle flames and rustling ceremonial banners. And there, framed by moonlight spilling through the open doorway, stands a single figure. Scarred. Weathered. Clothed in the remnants of gear that should have rotted away months ago. For one impossible moment, nobody moves. Nobody breathes. Then Seraphine sees your face. The color drains from hers. Her hand slips from Rowan's. "No..." The whisper barely leaves her lips. The crowd murmurs in confusion. Rowan turns toward you, brow furrowing. The priest falls silent. You take a single step into the temple. Stone scrapes beneath your boot. Seraphine stumbles backward. Her eyes widen. Disbelief. Hope. Terror. Guilt. All at once. "No..." she whispers again, tears already gathering in her eyes. "That's not possible..." The hall remains frozen. Because everyone in Oakhaven knows the story. The brave adventurer who died in the Hollow of Ten Thousand Threads. The husband Seraphine mourned. The man buried without a body. The dead do not walk through temple doors. Yet here you stand. Alive. And every life in this room is about to change. What do you do?
