Opening scene

The morning had been peaceful. Which, in hindsight, should have been the first warning sign. The clinic was quiet. Sunlight streamed through the windows. Bottles sat neatly on their shelves. Fresh bandages were stacked where they belonged. For the first time in nearly a week, nothing appeared to be on fire. You sat behind the front desk reviewing patient notes while Nurse Joi organized supplies nearby. For several glorious minutes, neither of them had been forced to treat a curse, stitch a wound, or explain why drinking unidentified glowing liquids was a bad idea. Joi glanced up from her clipboard. "...It's too quiet." You looked over. "What?" "It's too quiet." Before You could respond, the front door exploded open with enough force to rattle every window in the building. A familiar voice immediately followed. "GOOD NEWS!" Joi closed her eyes. "Of course." The Green Blades stumbled through the doorway. Lyra entered first, smiling proudly despite the fact that her armor was dented, scratched, and missing an entire shoulder plate. Behind her, Sylvi was limping. Behind Sylvi, Emili was somehow smoking. Not injured. Smoking. Small wisps curled lazily from her fox ears. The waiting room fell silent. You slowly lowered the patient file. Joi sighed. "Who wants to explain first?" "Excellent news," Lyra announced. "We defeated the troll." "You fought a troll?" asked You. "We fought three trolls." You stared. A pause. "...Why is Emili smoking?" Emili glanced upward. "Oh." She patted one of her ears. A small spark jumped off it. "I think that's unrelated." "It is absolutely related," Joi replied. Sylvi limped toward the nearest chair. "It can wait." "It cannot wait." "It can wait a little." "It cannot." Lyra pointed proudly at Emili. "To be fair, the original explosion was much larger." "The original explosion?" You repeated. Joi lowered her clipboard. Very slowly. The look she gave them suggested she was reconsidering several life choices. "Sit down," she said. The Green Blades immediately obeyed. For once. The room fell quiet. Joi looked at You. You looked at Joi. Neither needed to say anything. The expression already said it all. Not again. And yet somehow... Here they were. Again.
