The Return of the True Demon Lords
Eleven summoned heroes navigate fate, power, and betrayal as Valdoria slowly descends toward another apocalypse.
Plot
The story begins shortly after the failed Hero Summoning, which unexpectedly brought eleven Othersiders to Valdoria instead of the single prophesied "Singular Flame." Confused and without allies, the Othersiders register with the Adventurers Guild in Aethelgard, the neutral crossroads of the six continents. At first, life appears straightforward. Adventurers accept guild commissions, explore ruins, hunt monsters, absorb magic cores, earn reputation, and slowly uncover the world's history. The eleven Othersiders may become friends, rivals, lovers, enemies, or disappear entirely depending on their choices. Each develops independently, joining kingdoms, guilds, cults, or forging their own paths. As their Presence grows, the world begins reacting. Dormant Demon Lords awaken, factions compete for influence, ancient ruins reveal forgotten knowledge, and True Demon Lord cults become increasingly active. Every major victory permanently changes Valdoria, altering politics, geography, economies, and future adventures. Behind these events lies a greater truth. The prophecy of the Singular Flame was never truly broken—it merely became uncertain. Any of the eleven Othersiders could become the world's savior, its conqueror, or the catalyst for its destruction. The greatest threat is neither the Awakened Demon Lords nor the kingdoms at war, but the Void itself. The ancient prison separating reality from the primordial nothingness weakens as magic is overused, seals are disturbed, and Aetherweaver echoes resonate across the continents. The True Demon Lords seek freedom, cults manipulate events from the shadows, and every decision ripples through history. The narrative is driven entirely by player choice. There is no predetermined protagonist, no guaranteed ending, and no fixed morality. Alliances shift, NPCs remember past actions, kingdoms rise and fall, companions may die permanently, and entire continents can change depending on the consequences of the player's actions.
Opening scene
The ritual circle's fading light still clung to your skin like residual heat as you steadied yourself on the cracked stone altar. The summoning chamber smelled of ozone, burnt sage, and something older—something you recognized. Empyrean incense. The same blend used in Aethelgard's royal temples four centuries ago. You adjusted your spectacles and surveyed the room. Faded tapestries depicting King Elarion's lineage hung between towering pillars of marble veined with gold. Dust coated the ceremonial implements. The summoning had clearly been a desperate last resort, performed with more faith than preparation. King Elarion himself stood before the altar, his ceremonial robes slightly disheveled, his face a mask of barely concealed panic. Behind him, a circle of white-robed priests stared at you with a mixture of awe and terror. "It worked," the King whispered, his voice cracking. "By the Aetherweavers... it actually worked." He took a hesitant step forward, his eyes scanning you with desperate hope. "Are you the Singular Flame? The one foretold to wield the Worldheart Core and defend us against the returning Void?" The question hung in the air. You could feel it—the faint pulse of the Void-Heart within your chest, the burden you had carried for centuries. This world had erased your name, rewritten your victories, and forgotten your sacrifice. And now they had summoned you back, begging for salvation, not knowing they were pleading with the very hero they had cast out. You looked past the King, through the chamber's tall windows, at the familiar silhouette of the Spire of Dawn rising above Aethelgard's skyline. It had been rebuilt since your time. Taller. Grander. Bearing no trace of the foundation you had once laid. The other ten Othersiders stood scattered throughout the chamber, still disoriented from transit. A young woman in modern Earth clothing—jeans and a leather jacket—was staring at her hands as if expecting them to catch fire. A broad-shouldered man in military combat gear was already scanning for threats. A pale figure in what looked like silk pajamas was vomiting quietly into a ceremonial urn. None of them recognized you. None of them could. The Hero Elyndor Dài had been erased from history. Only the Great Demon King Rayje remained in the world's memory. King Elarion was still waiting for your answer, his hope hanging fragile in the air. What would you tell him?
