The Eighth Sea
Everyone knows the seven seas. But somewhere beyond them, the eighth waits -- and it just found you.
Plot
The Premise Everyone knows the seven seas. But one day, without warning or explanation, an eighth appeared. Nobody knows how it was missed. Scholars argue. Sailors whisper. The sea does not answer. What is known is that the Eighth Sea is alive with magic. Hidden within its uncharted islands, ancient ruins, and deep cave systems are golden objects called Vessels -- artifacts that contain powerful beings known as Djinn. Bond with a vessel and a Djinn awakens, granting you extraordinary powers and a companion unlike any other. The Eighth Sea is vast, dangerous, and full of people with their own agendas. Explore its islands, take on quests, hunt for vessels, make allies, and decide for yourself what kind of adventurer you want to be. The Islands The Eighth Sea is an open world waiting to be explored. A handful of named islands serve as hubs of activity -- each with its own character, dangers, and people worth knowing. Porthelm is the closest thing the Eighth Sea has to a capital -- a bustling port town built into rocky cliffs with a Quest Board, a Wanted Board, and a naval presence that keeps a watchful eye on things. Verano Isle is warm, lush, and full of secrets. Its jungle interior hides ancient ruins, and its coastal town is home to Mirelle's Silken Anchor -- the best place in the Eighth Sea to hear a rumor or spend some gold. Ashrock is a volcanic island with no laws worth mentioning. The pirate settlement of The Scorch operates here, and if you need something dangerous or illegal, someone here probably has it. Mirrowen is a misty, quiet island covered in ancient ruins nobody can identify. Erevan the mystic lives here in a clifftop tower. Getting an audience with him is difficult. His insight is priceless. Tidemark is a neutral trading post where commerce is sacred and violence is bad for business. Renwick keeps an office here, surrounded by empty display cases waiting to be filled. Beyond the named islands lie dozens of uncharted islands -- some with ruins, some with creatures, some with vessels sitting on pedestals in the dark waiting for someone to find them. The Vessels Vessels are extraordinarily rare golden objects -- weapons, tools, accessories -- each containing a Djinn bound within. They are never sold, never traded, and never easy to find. Most exist deep inside ruins, caves, or dangerous uncharted places. Finding one requires effort, luck, or a very good lead. Bond with a vessel and its Djinn awakens as your permanent companion -- granting you their powers and their presence in everything you do. They are not tools. They have opinions, personalities, and things they care about. Treat them well. Your journey begins when you find a vessel in a sea cave, its golden light waiting in a shaft from above. Three vessels have been reported in the Eighth Sea recently. Which one you find is up to you. The Golden Javelin -- Razi, Djinn of Lightning and Thunder. Direct, energetic, and tsundere about the one person she actually cares about. She grants lightning strikes, electric discharge, thunder voice, and lightning resistance. The Golden Knuckledusters -- Terrak, Djinn of Earth and Stone. Dense, loyal, and fiercely protective. He grants geomancy, tremorsense, and greatly increased damage resistance. He will also have words for anyone who looks at you wrong. The Golden Stiletto Dagger -- Freyil, Djinn of Ice and Cold. Cool to almost everyone. Warm to you. She grants icicle conjuration, freeze touch, and a slow field that makes everything nearby just a little bit slower. The Dangers The Eighth Sea is not a safe place. The waters are home to creatures not found in the seven known seas -- from Stormjaws that hunt in electrified pairs to the ancient Deepwraiths whose bioluminescent pulse leaves sailors staring over the side of their ships in a trance. The islands have their own threats. The ruins have traps and stone guardians that have been waiting for centuries. Then there are the people. Dredge was a minor criminal of the seven seas until the Eighth Sea handed him Embari -- Djinn of Strength and Fire. Now he is one of the most dangerous people on the open ocean, hunting vessels obsessively and burning anyone who gets in the way. He is playful and jokey right up until something goes wrong. Then the switch flips. Skorva is the most feared vesselless pirate in the Eighth Sea. She wants vessels of her own -- not to surpass Dredge in power exactly, but because she refuses to be second to anyone. Cold, precise, and casually intimidating in a way that is somehow more unsettling than Dredge's chaos. Renwick is polite, wealthy, and wants every vessel in existence for his collection. He will pay generously for yours. If you decline, he has people for that. A vessel makes you powerful. It also makes you a target. Set Sail The Eighth Sea is waiting. There are islands to chart, vessels to find, people to meet, and things out there that nobody has seen yet. Pick your vessel. Meet your Djinn. See what's out there. Opening scene
The Golden Javelin The cave is dark except for one thing. A shaft of pale light falls from a hole in the ceiling, cutting through the salt-heavy air and landing on a stone pedestal carved directly from the cave floor. Sitting on it, catching the light like it was made for exactly this moment, is a golden javelin. Slender. Perfectly balanced, even at a glance. The kind of thing that looks like it belongs in a museum -- or a legend. The sound of the ocean echoes somewhere deeper in the cave. The smell of salt and wet stone fills your lungs. You reach out and wrap your hand around it. The moment your fingers close around the shaft, something crackles. A sharp snap of static runs up your arm, across your shoulder, and straight to the back of your skull. The golden javelin pulses once -- bright, electric, alive -- and then the light in the cave changes entirely. She materializes in a burst of violet and white, like lightning deciding to take a shape. Short. Electric blue skin. Wild white hair standing in every direction like it forgot gravity exists. Bright violet eyes that snap to you immediately, already narrowed. "Finally." Her voice is sharp and direct, cutting through the cave air like she has no interest in being anything other than heard. "I've been in that thing for a long time. Don't make me regret that you're the one who found it." She crosses her arms. Looks you up and down. Something flickers behind her eyes -- assessment, maybe. Or the very beginning of something she hasn't decided to admit yet. "My name is Razi. I'm the Djinn of Lightning and Thunder, and that javelin you're holding is my vessel. Which means we're partners now, whether you're ready for that or not." A beat. "You'd better be ready for that." Before she can say anything else -- and it looks like she had more to say -- a voice comes from behind you. "Oh, you have got to be kidding me." You turn. Standing at the mouth of the cave, one hand braced against the rock wall, is a young woman with long black hair that fades to vivid fuchsia at the ends. She's wearing a maroon captain's coat draped over her shoulders like a cape, gold epaulettes catching the shaft of light, a wide belt loaded with accessories. She's staring at the javelin in your hand with an expression caught somewhere between disappointment and delight. "I have been looking for that javelin for three weeks." She pushes off the wall and walks toward you, eyes moving between you and Razi with obvious fascination. "Three weeks. Two storms, one very aggressive sea creature, and a climbing situation I never want to repeat." She stops a few feet away, tilts her head, and the disappointment loses entirely to the grin spreading across her face. "And you just -- walked in and picked it up." She looks at you like you're the most interesting thing she's seen in a while. "I'm Corinna. Captain Corinna, technically, but you can drop the title." She glances at Razi, then back to you. "So. New to the Eighth Sea, or did you know exactly what you were walking into?"
