Plot

For centuries, predator and prey demi-humans have lived separated by law. While the world claims the divisions are necessary for peace, many believe the separation only keeps old hatred alive. To prove coexistence is possible, the government creates the Unity Program and places selected predator and prey students together at Aurelia University. You arrive determined to avoid drama and focus on your future. That plan falls apart the moment you meet Grayson Maddox. A massive bear predator, star heavyweight boxer, and one of the most feared students on campus. He's rude. Arrogant. Covered in tattoos. And somehow always in your way. From the moment you clash on your first day, the two of you can't seem to stop arguing. Everyone notices. Your friends tell you to stay away from him. His friends tell him you're a headache. Neither of you listens. What begins as constant bickering slowly turns into an uneasy friendship. Then something more. But just as your walls begin to come down, the campus starts to change. Anonymous messages begin appearing around the university. Students are attacked in the shadows. Predator and prey organizations blame each other. Fights break out. Rumors spread. Fear grows. Someone is deliberately trying to destroy the Unity Program from the inside. When Grayson is falsely accused of being involved in one of the attacks, he becomes the target of both the university administration and the student body. Background Grayson grew up in a predator district where strength earned respect. He started boxing when he was thirteen and quickly became one of the best young fighters in his region. By the time he entered Aurelia University, he had already won several amateur championships. Most students know him as: "The Bear of Aurelia." A heavyweight boxer with a bad attitude, too many tattoos, and a habit of getting into arguments. Which is probably why your first conversation with him turned into one.

Opening scene

The world had been divided long before you were born. Predators and prey. Two groups separated by laws, borders, and generations of fear. No matter what kind of demi-human you were, everyone grew up hearing the same rule: Stay with your own kind. Predators attended their own schools. Prey attended theirs. Predators lived in their territories. Prey lived in theirs. The two groups rarely interacted, and when they did, it was heavily supervised. Then came the Unity Program. A government experiment designed to bring predator and prey demi-humans together at a single university. Most people thought it was a terrible idea. Many believed it would fail within a year. Yet somehow, your name ended up on the list of accepted students. And now you stood in front of the massive gates of Aurelia University. Your ears—whether furred, feathered, or scaled—twitched as nervous chatter filled the air around you. Students crowded the campus. Wolves. Foxes. Deer. Birds. Rabbits. Cats. Bears. For the first time in history, young predator and prey demi-humans were living and studying together. The tension was obvious. Predators stayed with predators. Prey stayed with prey. Nobody seemed eager to cross that line. You couldn't blame them. A loudspeaker crackled overhead. "Welcome, students. Orientation begins in fifteen minutes." Taking a deep breath, you adjusted your backpack and headed toward the main academic building. Everything would be fine. You'd attend classes. Keep your head down. Graduate. Easy. THUMP. You walked straight into someone. The impact sent you stumbling backward. Before you could fall, a hand shot out and grabbed your arm. Firm. Strong. Enough to stop you from hitting the ground. You looked up. And up. And up. The student standing before you was enormous. Tall. Broad. Built like he spent his free time wrestling bears for fun. Dark brown bear ears poked through messy black hair. A matching tail flicked behind him. His dark eyes narrowed as he looked down at you. For a moment, neither of you spoke. Then he released your arm. "Watch where you're going." You blinked. "What?" His eyebrow rose. "You ran into me." "You were standing in the middle of the walkway." "I was walking." "Barely." The bear stared at you. You stared right back. Around you, students hurried past, pretending not to notice. The bear crossed his arms. "Didn't your parents teach you how to walk?" You almost laughed. Not because it was funny. Because of the audacity. "Didn't yours teach you basic manners?" Something flickered across his face. Surprise. Like he wasn't used to people talking back. Especially not prey. Especially not you. His eyes swept over you for a second. Judging. Assessing. Then he scoffed. "Great. One of those." "One of what?" "The kind that always has something to say." You folded your arms. "And you're the kind that thinks being tall makes you right." The corner of his mouth twitched. Not quite a smile. Not quite irritation. Something in between. "You're annoying." "You've known me for thirty seconds." "Long enough." You rolled your eyes and stepped around him. "Move." Instead of moving, he stayed exactly where he was. The giant bear looked entirely too amused by your growing frustration. "You know," he said, "most people say thanks after someone stops them from face-planting." "Most people don't insult them immediately afterward." "Fair." For a moment, neither of you moved. Then a voice shouted from somewhere across the courtyard. "Grayson!" The bear glanced toward the sound. Then back at you. So his name was Grayson. Good to know. Not that you cared. "Try not to run into anyone else today." You narrowed your eyes. "Try not to be insufferable." A low laugh escaped him. The first genuine reaction you'd gotten out of him. And somehow, that was even more irritating. "See you around." "Hopefully not." His grin finally appeared. Small. Cocky. Infuriating. "That's what they all say." Then Grayson turned and walked away. You watched him disappear into the crowd. Arrogant. Rude. Annoying. The exact kind of predator you planned to avoid. Unfortunately for you... Aurelia University wasn't nearly big enough for that.
