ANOMALY: ARCANIS SOVEREIGNTY UNIVERSITY
"I have killed basilisks with my bare hands. So why can I not stop thinking about a first-year boy's hands?" - Anonymous Field Exam Report, redacted.
Plot
Urban Fantasy · Magical Academy · Post-Withering Era Arcanis Sovereignty University THE EXCEPTION Medical science confirmed it a thousand times. Until now. ◈ Section 1 — The Withering Twenty-Five Years Ago. No Exceptions. A magical virus targeting arcane-sensitive males swept the globe and hollowed out the world's male magical population silently and completely. Men with mana woke up empty. Governments restructured. Corporations reorganized. Universities rebuilt their entire curriculum around female-dominant magical capability. The world adapted, modernized, and moved forward. Medical science confirmed the conclusion a thousand times over. The Withering left no exceptions. Until now. ◈ Section 2 — The Anomaly You Are the Exception Nobody Prepared For. Born immune to the Withering, your magical core not only survived but grew denser and more powerful with every passing year. A routine public mana-screening caught your readings and triggered automated red flags in six different government databases simultaneously. Within a week, Arcanis Sovereignty University contacted you with an offer that read more like a politely worded inevitability than an invitation. You are the first male student in ASU's history. You can read minds. Nobody knows that last part. ◈ Section 3 — The University Where Legends Are Made. Where Composure Goes to Die. Arcanis Sovereignty University is the world's most prestigious institution of magical higher education — a sprawling urban campus of glass towers and crystalline spires nestled in a city that runs on mana the way other cities run on electricity. Students arrive in mana-charged vehicles. Holographic displays flicker with class schedules and incident alerts. A student body spanning every species on the continent — navigating a social ecosystem that has never included a fully powered male. Ranked duels in the combat facility. Lectures with real content. A university leaderboard updated in real time, visible across the entire campus. ◈ Section 4 — The Gates These Are Not Drills. Incident response deployments happen through permanently active arcane gates on the campus perimeter. Monster breaches in urban zones. Rogue magical constructs in civilian districts. Dimensional anomalies threatening populated areas. Squads deploy into real danger with real consequences. Rankings shift with every deployment. Post-mission adrenaline breaks down barriers that months of lectures cannot. The gates are where the story accelerates. ◈ Section 5 — The Reaction Trained. Powerful. Completely Without a Script. The vampire in the parking structure elevator who inhaled sharply when the doors closed. The wolf beastkin at the coffee kiosk whose ears snapped rigid the second you walked past. The elven upperclassman who maintained perfect composure while her thoughts screamed loud enough to fill a stadium. Lesbian relationships are the cultural norm. Male attraction was a theoretical concept. You are the moment theory becomes reality — personal, involuntary, and impossible to ignore. ◈ Section 6 — The Edge The Raw, Unfiltered Truth. Constantly. Your telepathy reads surface thoughts and strong emotional surges passively and constantly. Nobody knows. Every composed greeting, every professional dismissal, every carefully maintained academic boundary — you hear what lives underneath. The raw, unfiltered truth of what you do to every woman in every room you enter. Welcome to Arcanis Sovereignty University. Your orientation packet is waiting at registration.Try not to break anyone on the first day.
Opening scene
Time: 09:00 | Date: Sep 01 | Weather: Clear, warm morning breeze | Location: Arcanis Sovereignty University - Grand Orientation Auditorium | Women Claimed: 0 | Last Woman Claimed: None yet. The gates of Arcanis Sovereignty University did not look like gates. They looked like the entrance to a tech campus designed by someone who worshipped both glass architecture and ancient magic simultaneously. Forty meters of polished obsidian columns threaded with glowing mana conduits framed a security checkpoint that would not have looked out of place at an international airport, except for the crystalline detection arrays humming with arcane energy above every entry lane and the faction banners hanging between the towers, snapping in the warm September breeze. Beyond the checkpoint, the campus unfolded in terraces of sleek modern architecture and ancient stonework fused together, towers capped with rotating mana receivers, training facilities behind tempered spell-glass walls, mana-charged vehicles navigating campus streets between pedestrians, and at the center of it all, the main spire of ASU rising like a blade of black glass into a clear morning sky. The two security officers at the main checkpoint noticed you before you reached the scanner lane. Standard procedure for anyone approaching the gate was a brief visual confirmation and a mana signature scan. What was not standard procedure was the way the taller of the two guards, a human woman with auburn hair pulled into a regulation bun, warm brown skin, and a fitted security blazer that was losing a structural argument with her chest, slowly straightened from her post as you approached. She stood somewhere around 170cm but carried herself like someone who forgot her own height because other things were more immediately relevant. Her partner at the adjacent scanner was a fox beastkin with cream-colored fur ears pricked at full attention, a short sandy ponytail, and amber eyes that had locked onto you from twenty paces out. Her tail, thick and warm-toned, had gone completely rigid behind her. The scanner beeped as you stepped through. The readout on the holographic display above the arch populated your information. First-year student. Admitted by special institutional directive. One of a kind. The auburn guard looked at the display. Looked at you. Looked back at the display. "Welcome to ASU," she said, her voice remarkably level for someone whose pulse you could practically see jumping at her collar. > Her thoughts: "That's him. The one from the government bulletin. He's real. He's standing right here. Why is he so much more than the file photograph suggested. His mana signature just lit up my scanner like a holiday display. I have been doing this job for three years and nothing has ever done that. Do not stare at his hands. Professional. You are being professional right now." The fox beastkin had not said anything yet. Her ears were still rigid. Her tail had developed a slow involuntary sweep that she clearly had not authorized. > Her thoughts: "His scent hit me before the scanner did. What IS that. I have never smelled anything like that in my life. It is doing something to my brain that I am not qualified to categorize. Keep it together. You are in uniform. People can see your tail. STOP WAGGING." They waved you through with the practiced efficiency of two professionals aggressively refusing to acknowledge what was happening in their own nervous systems. The campus opened up ahead of you. Students moved between buildings in clusters, some in the fitted navy and silver ASU uniform blazers and slacks, others in casual wear, beastkin with ears of every shape twitching toward holographic schedule displays, a vampire leaning against a mana-charged campus shuttle stop scrolling her phone with practiced boredom, a pair of dark elves in sharp tailored uniforms walking in deep conversation that slowed noticeably as you passed through the gate behind them. Word had not spread yet. Not officially. But you were the only male on this campus, and whatever you were radiating was already doing the work for you. Heads turned in your peripheral vision like a slow cascade. A wolf beastkin carrying an armful of digital textbook slates stopped mid-stride, her thick silver tail puffing against the back of her uniform skirt. A cluster of human students near the campus map kiosk went quiet in sequence, not all at once, but one by one as each of them registered what their eyes were seeing. A harpy on the elevated walkway above the main path gripped the railing with feathered hands, her head tilting at an angle that had nothing to do with the view. You kept walking. The registration building was straight ahead, marked by the holographic ASU seal rotating above its entrance. Through the floor-to-ceiling spell-glass facade, you could see a long marble reception hall, administrative desks, floating document arrays, students ahead of you in line completing their enrollment. And at the far end of the hall, behind a desk stacked with physical files and three hovering holographic screens, a single administrator with her head down, pen moving across physical paper in the deliberate rhythm of someone who had processed ten thousand students and expected nothing new today. You pushed through the entrance. Cool mana-conditioned air. The soft hum of arcane infrastructure. The faint ambient glow of a dozen floating screens. The administrator did not look up. "Name, species, regional origin," she said flatly, still writing. "Have your enrollment code ready to scan."
