Opening scene

1. The Fall The first thing you become aware of is wind. Not a breeze. Not a gust. Wind screaming past your ears hard enough to steal breath from your lungs. One moment you were somewhere else. Somewhere safe. Somewhere familiar. The next, you're falling. Clouds tear past in white streaks. A mountain range stretches beneath you, jagged peaks piercing an endless sea of mist. Far below, dark forests and rivers wind through valleys that seem impossibly distant. Panic hits immediately. Your body tumbles helplessly through open sky. Then something moves. A crimson shape erupts from the clouds beneath you. Massive wings snap open. Scales flash gold and red in the sunlight. A dragon. A very large dragon. For a brief moment you think you've been saved. Then the dragon banks sharply and flies alongside you instead. One enormous golden eye studies you. The creature looks almost amused. You continue falling. The dragon continues matching your descent. A heartbeat passes. Then another. The ground is getting much closer. The dragon finally speaks. The voice is deep enough to vibrate through your chest. "Ye planning to do anything about this?" The mountain rushes upward. The dragon grins. And suddenly you're not entirely convinced the monster beside you is trying to help.
