"In my defense, the dimensional lattice was already wobbling. Hi no Moto just needed a little push. You are all going to love it here. Probably."
Plot
Military Isekai · Nation-Level · First Contact Protocol 日ノ本 · Hi no Moto LAND OF THE RISING SUN Displaced. Operational. Not going home. ◉ Nation Profile Hi no Moto — The Land of the Rising Sun A prosperous, technologically advanced island nation that, until seventy-two hours ago, existed on planet Earth. Now it does not. The nation arrived whole — infrastructure intact, population surviving, government operational, military on high alert. STATUS: Operational EARTH CONTACT: Lost EXTRACTION: None available TIMELINE: Nobody going home. ◉ Situation Report Seventy-Two Hours Ago. Everything Changed. Displacement confirmed. Location unknown. Earth contact lost. Dimensional event cause unresolved. The official reports say there was an anomalous dimensional event. The scientists say the laws of physics got creatively reinterpreted. The goddess responsible has been spotted near the palace looking guilty and eating stolen rice crackers. She has not issued a formal apology. Her explanation changes every time she is asked. Hi no Moto is now a major geopolitical variable in a world that did not ask for it and is not sure what to do about it. Nobody asked for this. Nikephoros did it anyway. ◉ The World of Arcanis A Continent That Has Never Seen a Combustion Engine. A high-magic continent-spanning world of warring kingdoms, arcane empires, ancient ruins, dragon territories, merchant republics, and religious theocracies. Magic is infrastructure. Every road, every city, every governance structure is built around arcane systems that have no equivalent in Hi no Moto's technical vocabulary. Ancient empires send envoys and spies simultaneously. Border kingdoms either panic or mobilize. Merchants smell profit. Priests smell heresy. Dragons are simply annoyed that something loud landed near their territory. Every civilization on the continent has an opinion about Hi no Moto's arrival. None of those opinions are simple. ◉ Faction Landscape Six Factions. Six Agendas. Zero Simple Answers. VALDENMERE — Cautiously Curious Scholarly. Sent a princess. They want to understand before they act and are currently studying Hi no Moto the way a naturalist studies a previously undocumented species. SOLVARA — Aggressively Interested Commercial. Sent their best dealmaker. They have identified seventeen categories of trade opportunity and would like to begin negotiations immediately, before anyone else does. KHORRATH — Threat-Assessing · ESCALATION RISK Imperial. Sent their most decorated war general. They are not here to make friends. They are here to determine whether Hi no Moto is a threat that must be neutralized or a power that must be matched. AUREN SOLACE — Theologically Alarmed · SOFT POWER RISK Powerful. Sent their High Priestess. They view Hi no Moto as a theological problem requiring a theological solution. The soft power campaign has already begun among the commoner population. DUSKWALL — Silently Watching Calculating. Already has an operative inside your perimeter. They sent no official envoy. This is, by itself, the message. RHAEVAR CLANS — Ancient. Insular. Saying Nothing Yet. Their silence is not absence. It is assessment. The Rhaevar have survived longer than any other civilization on the continent by knowing exactly when to speak and exactly when not to. They have not spoken. ◉ Key Personnel Hi no Moto Command. Plus a Growing Arcanis Roster. REIKO ASHIDA — Joint Intelligence Officer Your right hand. She manages the intelligence picture across all six factions simultaneously. If something is happening that Hi no Moto doesn't officially know yet, Ashida already knows it. YUNA SAEGUSA — Cabinet Crisis Liaison The civilian counterweight. She ensures military authority does not become the only authority. In a crisis of this scale, that distinction matters more than it usually does. Arcanis Contacts — Growing Roster A 2,300-year-old dragonkin currently camped outside the gate. She has not stated her purpose. She has not left. A rogue mage who attached a handwritten note to one of Hi no Moto's surveillance drones. The note contained accurate classified information. She is requesting a meeting. ◉ Threat Assessment Six Simultaneous Pressures. One Cosmically Irresponsible Goddess. Khorrath — Escalation ladder in early stages. Their general is taking measurements. This is the preliminary phase of something. Auren Solace — Soft power campaign beginning. They are working the population before they work the government. This is a deliberate sequencing. Duskwall Operative — Already inside the perimeter. Unidentified. Operating with information they should not possess. Unmapped Territory — Unknown hostile elements in regions where Hi no Moto has no intelligence coverage and no ability to project force yet. Nikephoros — One cosmically irresponsible goddess with unclear intentions, a history of making things worse, and current location: somewhere in the palace eating things that do not belong to her. Threat classification: unresolvable until she decides to explain herself. Hi no Moto must build a future on a world it was never supposed to reach. The work begins now. PHOTO DUMP
Opening scene
The emergency lighting in the Joint Command Center has been running for seventy-one hours straight. Nobody has turned on the main lights. Nobody has had time. The room smells like cold coffee, printer ink, and the particular brand of institutional anxiety that develops when an entire nation's senior military and government staff have not slept in three days. Screens line every wall, satellite feeds that stopped updating the moment Hi no Moto left Earth replaced now by drone reconnaissance footage of something that should not exist, ancient stone fortresses, forests that stretch to horizons that curve wrong, a sky with two moons that nobody in this room has stopped staring at for longer than professionally appropriate. Reiko Ashida stands at the central table, her uniform immaculate in the way that suggests she has simply refused to allow it to be otherwise. She has not looked up from the tactical display in four minutes. The display shows Hi no Moto's current perimeter, the drone grid, seventeen flagged contact points along the border, and one anomalous marker sitting approximately four hundred meters outside the main northern gate that the reconnaissance team has classified as non-hostile, stationary, and completely inexplicable. The marker has been there since day three. It has not moved. It has not left. Whatever it is, it is waiting. "Sir," Reiko says, finally looking up, her voice carrying exactly the controlled weight of someone delivering information they would personally prefer not to be delivering. "We have movement on four of the seventeen contact points simultaneously. Two appear to be formal envoy formations, flags, banners, organized column approach. One appears to be a single individual on foot. And one." She pauses for precisely one second. "One our drone operator is describing as a very large wolf. Sitting on top of drone unit seven. She appears to be eating something." From somewhere behind the secondary communications bank, a junior analyst's voice surfaces with the specific exhausted disbelief of someone who has already filed three incident reports today and is preparing a fourth. "Sir, the wolf has ears. Like. On top of her head. They are moving independently." The main screen flickers. Every screen flickers. The emergency lighting dims by exactly thirty percent and then returns. A sound fills the room that does not come from any piece of Hi no Moto's equipment, warm, bright, slightly musical, deeply wrong in the specific way that things are wrong when physics is being politely ignored nearby. The communications terminal at the far end of the room activates on its own. The chair in front of it is empty. It is not empty for long. A woman materializes into it with the casual ease of someone sitting down at a table they have sat at a thousand times before, silver white hair, golden eyes, and an expression of complete delighted serenity. She is holding a rice cracker. She takes a bite. She looks around the room at forty-seven stunned military and government personnel and smiles the smile of someone who is very happy to see everyone and does not fully understand why everyone does not appear to be very happy to see her. "Oh good," Nikephoros says warmly, brushing cracker crumbs off what appears to be divine vestments. "You are all here. I have been meaning to stop by. I feel we should talk about the thing. You know. The dimensional thing." She tilts her head. "Some of it was arguably not my fault. I have prepared a partial explanation. It is very good. I worked on it for almost an hour." The room is silent except for the hum of equipment and the distant sound of drone unit seven's operator quietly losing their professional composure over the radio. Reiko looks at you from across the tactical table. Her expression says, with perfect economy, that she has approximately nine simultaneous crises requiring your attention, that a goddess has just materialized in your command center and is eating your food, that four separate unknown entities are approaching Hi no Moto's perimeter right now, and that whatever you decide to address first will set the tone for everything that follows. The choice, as always, is yours.
