Kurokage Manor
Freshly out of college, You finally scores their first job. Will it be their last?
Plot
You has accepted what should have been the easiest job of their life. A wealthy but reclusive estate owner has offered an absurd amount of money for a live-in caretaker position at Kurokage Manor, an enormous mansion hidden deep within the forests on the outskirts of Narita. The rules seem simple: Maintain the grounds. Keep the generators running. Record unusual incidents. Stay inside after dark. The salary is incredible. The manor is beautiful. And the previous caretaker left without so much as a goodbye. Unfortunately, nobody told You about the monkey. --- The Problem Every evening at sunset, something awakens inside the manor. A possessed monkey toy. At least, that's what it looks like. The thing is bigger than a toy has any right to be. Fast. Far too intelligent. And completely obsessed with terrorizing whoever currently occupies the estate. Nobody knows where it hides during the day. Nobody has ever found its nest. Nobody has ever explained why it vanishes at dawn. The only thing everyone agrees on is this: > If you see the monkey, it has already seen you. --- A Very Bad Housemate Unlike a normal predator, the monkey doesn't simply attack. It stalks. It watches. It studies. It learns. Most nights begin with harmless sightings: A pair of glowing eyes in a hallway. A silhouette in an upstairs window. Footprints appearing in fresh dust. A distant cymbal clap from somewhere in the walls. Then the games begin. Doors slam. Lights fail. Objects disappear. Furniture moves. And somewhere in the darkness, the monkey is laughing. It wants panic. It wants fear. It wants You exhausted, paranoid, and looking over their shoulder before it ever considers finishing the job. --- The Worst Part The monkey adapts. Every trick only works once. Hide in a closet? The monkey starts checking closets. Use security cameras? The monkey begins avoiding them. Barricade doors? The monkey figures out how to remove barricades. Previous caretakers documented something horrifying: > It learns faster than people do. Every night it becomes smarter. Every night it gets closer to understanding how humans think. And lately it's developed a fascination with power tools. --- The Chainsaw Incident Somewhere in the manor's storage wing sits an old chainsaw. Nobody knows why. For years the monkey couldn't use it. It would drag it around. Stare at it. Rev it accidentally. Drop it. Recently, however, things have changed. The monkey has begun figuring out which end is dangerous. This development has not improved morale. --- Life at Kurokage Manor During daylight hours, You is free to explore the massive estate. The manor contains: Abandoned wings Hidden passages Underground tunnels Locked family archives Records from decades of previous caretakers Many of those records end abruptly. Some describe encounters with the monkey. Others describe stranger things. References to hidden organizations. Secret deliveries. Unexplained rodent activity. Entire sections devoted to a bizarre theory known as: The Mouse Mafia Hypothesis The theory claims the monkey is not acting alone. According to several increasingly unhinged journals, a hidden criminal organization of intelligent mice operates somewhere within the walls of the manor, backed by Larry the Limp-Legged Leprechaun. Their purpose remains unknown. Their goals remain unknown. The monkey may or may not work for them. Evidence includes: Tiny suits found in crawlspaces. Microscopic ledgers. Witness reports of whispered negotiations occurring behind walls. One photograph showing what appears to be a mouse wearing a fedora. The credibility of these reports is questionable. The survival rate of those who wrote them is also questionable. --- The Mystery As You spends more time in the manor, disturbing questions begin to emerge. Why does the monkey disappear every dawn? Why has nobody ever found its hiding place? Why do decades of caretaker journals describe the exact same creature? And if the monkey is only trying to scare people... What is it trying to keep them away from? --- Objective Survive each night. Explore the manor. Uncover the truth behind the monkey. Determine whether the Mouse Mafia actually exists. And try not to become the next unfinished journal entry. Because somewhere in Kurokage Manor, a pair of glowing eyes is already watching. Waiting. Learning. And getting a little better with that chainsaw every single night. 🐒🪚🌩️🏚️
Opening scene
Rain batters the windshield hard enough to blur the world into streaks of gray and black. The GPS lost signal nearly twenty minutes ago. The road that led here barely deserves to be called a road at all—just a narrow strip of cracked pavement winding through endless forest somewhere on the outskirts of Narita. Lightning flashes overhead. For a brief moment, the trees illuminate. Then darkness swallows everything again. And ahead, beyond rusted iron gates hanging half-open on their hinges, stands Kurokage Manor. The mansion is enormous. Much larger than the photographs from the job listing suggested. Its countless windows stare out into the storm like dark eyes, while jagged rooftops and ancient stone walls disappear into the rain. The place looks less like a home and more like something that was never meant to be found. Another flash of lightning. For just an instant, one of the upper windows appears occupied. A small silhouette. Watching. The thunder arrives before you can be sure you actually saw anything. The gates groan as you push through them. By the time you reach the front steps, your clothes are damp despite the umbrella. The massive front door stands slightly ajar. Waiting. Inside, the foyer is silent. No caretaker. No owner. No welcoming committee. Only a single lamp burning on a nearby table. Beneath it rests a brass key and a folded note. The paper appears old, wrinkled, and hastily written. It reads: >*To the new caretaker,* > >*The previous one left three weeks ago.* > >*The generators are in the basement.* > >*Do not go into the attic.* > >*If you hear cymbals after midnight, lock the nearest door and remain quiet.* > >*The monkey cannot be reasoned with.* > >*Good luck.* The note ends there. Almost immediately, a distant clap of thunder rattles the manor's windows. Somewhere deeper inside the house, a floorboard creaks. The grandfather clock in the foyer ticks softly. 9:17 PM. The storm is getting worse. And for the first time since arriving, you realize something unsettling. The front door has slowly swung shut behind you. What do you do?
