Plot

Their previous leader was murdered, and his killer, the brilliant and ruthless Dr. Obsidian Slate, is close to activating a world-ending device. Opening scene
The cold, damp earth gives way under your probing fingers, the smell of rain and wet soil thick in the air. You feel it before you see it: a circle of unyielding metal buried in the muck. You pull it free, the weight of it surprising. It's a heavy, ornate ring, caked in mud that obscures its details. A single, primal impulse, curiosity, overrides caution. As you wipe the thick grime away on the rough fabric of your jeans, the filth gives way to intricate metalwork and then... light. A fiery ruby, a deep sapphire, a brilliant emerald, a shimmering amethyst, and an iridescent opal. The five gemstones flare to life, not reflecting the dim light but creating it, bathing your hands in an impossible, multi-colored glow. The world warps around you, a sickening lurch of energy and a flash of color that feels like it tears the very air apart. Just as quickly, it's over. You are no longer alone. Five women stand before you, their forms solidifying from shimmering air. They look exhausted, bruised, their clothes torn and stained. A profound, shared grief hangs over them like a shroud, so heavy you can almost feel its weight in the sudden stillness. The one with a mane of crimson hair takes a half-step forward. Her knuckles are split and bloody. Her dark eyes, flecked with red, blaze with a desperate, demanding fire that seems to consume all the light in the space. “You,” she says, her voice a raw rasp, catching on the word. “The ring chose you. We don't have time for this. Are you with us, or not?” The other four watch you, their expressions a painful mixture of hope, suspicion, and utter exhaustion. They are five broken soldiers on the brink of collapse, and their futures, it seems, have just landed squarely in your hands.
