The Crownless Hero

Falsely accused after a king’s murder, You becomes a wandering protector whose bonds slowly forge a legendary hero.

Plot

You is summoned as the kingdom’s prophesied savior—but within moments of arriving, the king is assassinated and You is framed for the murder. Branded a traitor and hunted by knights, nobles, and the church, You escapes during an enemy invasion and becomes a wandering outcast. Traveling through war-torn lands ruined by noble greed and political corruption, You begins protecting forgotten villages abandoned by the kingdom. Strange powers awaken—not through weapons or destiny, but through trust. The more people genuinely believe in You, the stronger they become. Slowly, rumors begin to spread. To the kingdom: The Crownless Traitor. To the common people: The Hero Who Never Left.

Opening scene

The first thing You learned about this world was that nobody looked at heroes with fear. So the moment soldiers pointed spears at his throat he knew something had already gone terribly wrong. “Do not move!” The command echoed across polished stone as a dozen knights surrounded him. Not monsters nor enemies but knights, their armor gleamed silver beneath towering stained-glass windows. Royal banners hung from marble pillars clad in gold, white and crimson colors.  A kingdom of wealth and power, a kingdom currently staring at You like he was poison. Confusion came first, then disbelief followed by something colder, fear. “What—?” The word barely left his mouth as a gauntleted hand slammed into his shoulder hard. “On your knees, traitor!” The force sent pain shooting through his body and before You could react, he was shoved downward as stone met bone. The impact hurt but the silence afterward hurt more as hundreds of eyes gazed upon him, watching and judging. Nobles stood along the edges of the chamber dressed in velvet and jewels, priests whispered beneath silver crests and knights gripped weapons. Not one expression showed sympathy, only disgust, suspicion and hatred. Hatred so immediate it felt practiced, as if they had already decided who You was. At the far end of the chamber a throne stood empty. No, not empty. The king sat slumped against gold, motionless, his robes stained dark crimson. A sword buried deep in his chest and for a moment You forgot how to breathe. The old man was dead… dead, and somehow everyone here believed they had done it. “You dare act confused?” a noble snapped. An older man stepped forward, rings glittering across his fingers. “The summoned hero enters the throne room.” He pointed toward the body. “Moments later, His Majesty is murdered.” Murmurs spread, disgusted, angry and fearful as the noble’s voice sharpened. “And who stands nearest the body?” Eyes turned toward You at his words, then toward the blood, toward the impossible truth they didn’t understand. Because this made no sense, minutes ago there had been light, a ritual circle, voices chanting, the impossible feeling of the world tearing sideways. Then confusion, a throne room in panic, guards shouting and now this. A dead king, a sword in his chest and accusations, with no explanation or chance to speak. “This is insane,” You said, voice shaking. “I didn’t kill anybody.” “Silence.” The voice carried through the chamber like thunder as everyone bowed instantly, even nobles lowered their heads. Standing above the throne steps was a woman in silver-white ceremonial robes watched with unreadable eyes. The High Saintess, her expression held no warmth only disappointment and certainty. “The prophecy warned us,” she said quietly in a whisper somehow louder than shouting. “The Hero would arrive bearing calamity.” The room shifted as murmurs turned uneasy, some fearful, others vindicated. “No…” You said slowly. “No, wait—that doesn’t even make sense.” The woman never blinked or reacted to his words.“The king welcomed you.” Her gaze moved to the corpse. “And now he lies dead.” Something cold settled into You’s stomach, no confusion now, this was no misunderstanding, this was deliberate. The realization came ugly, heavy and terrifying, someone had planned this and somehow he’d been chosen as the perfect scapegoat. A knight approached the throne and kneeled. “Your Eminence.” Hid voice hesitated before continuing . “There are witnesses.” The room fell quiet as the knight swallowed. “They claim they saw the Hero holding the murder weapon.” A ripple of outrage spread instantly at the knights words. “He admitted guilt!” “Monster!” “Demon-spawn!” “Execute him!” “Hang the traitor!” The shouting came so quickly, so naturally that it stopped feeling human. There was no investigation, no questions or hesitation, only fury and convenience. You looked around the chamber, searching anyone he could, one face uncertain, one person hesitant. One sign this was wrong, but there was nothing, not one person and somehow that hurt worst of all. Because nobody looked confused, nobody looked shocked, they looked relieved as if finding a villain had solved everything. Then High Saintess finally spoke again. “The Crown shall not allow the murderer of our king to live.” The chamber erupted. “Execution!” “Death to the false hero!” “Hang him!” The word false hit harder than expected, hero, they had called You a hero what? An hour ago? Less? And now they wanted blood. Something bitter curled in his chest, something ugly, deeply unfair. “I didn’t do this,” You said quietly. No one listened, the Saintess raised a hand. “By authority of crown and faith—” The doors exploded inward before she could finish, the sound shook the chamber. Smoke and screaming in the distance, a soldier stumbled through the entrance covered in blood. Panting and terrified he spoke. “The eastern wall—!” His voice cracked. “The Empire has breached the capital!” Silence spread before chaos followed, another explosion thundered somewhere outside as the palace trembled. Nobles panicked instantly, knights shouted as orders collided, panic spreading like wildfire. Amid the chaos something unexpected happened, the knight holding You loosened his grip. Just enough, just for a second creating a single moment. One opening, one impossible chance and he ran. Not because he was guilty, not because they were afraid, but because nobody here intended to learn the truth. Most importantly, staying meant dying for a crime someone else committed. Somewhere beyond the palace the city burned and without understanding why, without knowing where to go, without allies or answers You ran. Behind him the kingdom’s bells began to ring, not for war or invasion, but for something worse, the death of a king and the birth of a traitor.
