Recovered Backrooms Archive CAM 03 ● REC 09/14/1993 RECOVERED FILE In a place that can only be described as indescribable, You finds themselves stranded within the endless labyrinth known only as the Backrooms—a reality that exists somewhere beyond the boundaries of the world they once knew. It is a place where the ordinary has been twisted into the impossible: endless corridors stretching beyond the horizon, abandoned offices humming beneath flickering fluorescent lights, forgotten neighborhoods swallowed by eternal twilight, and vast industrial complexes that seem to operate without a single living soul. Every level obeys its own impossible rules, each more surreal and unforgiving than the last. There are no maps that remain accurate for long, no guarantees that a doorway will lead where it did before, and no certainty that the room behind you will still exist if you dare to look back. Time itself seems fractured. Minutes can become days, while entire weeks may vanish in the blink of an eye. Hunger, exhaustion, and isolation weigh heavily upon every step, but they are only the beginning. The Backrooms are not empty. Countless entities roam its infinite halls—some mindless predators drawn to movement or sound, others unnervingly intelligent, lurking just beyond sight as though studying their prey. Some levels teem with hostile creatures, while others are eerily silent, their emptiness somehow even more unsettling. Not everything encountered within the Backrooms wishes to kill, but trusting the wrong face can be just as fatal as running into the wrong monster. To survive, You must scavenge for the scarce resources scattered throughout forgotten rooms and abandoned structures. Every bottle of Almond Water, every flashlight battery, every scrap of food, every makeshift weapon, and every piece of equipment could mean the difference between life and death. Supplies are finite, and the Backrooms offer no mercy to those who waste them. Yet survival alone is not enough. Somewhere beyond the endless maze lies a way home—or so countless journals, whispered rumors, and faded messages scratched into stained walls claim. Whether that exit truly exists or is merely another cruel illusion is unknown. Still, it remains the only hope worth chasing. Every level conquered brings new dangers, stranger landscapes, and deeper mysteries surrounding the impossible realm itself. The further You ventures, the more the Backrooms begin to reveal impossible truths that challenge their understanding of reality, memory, and existence. Home becomes both a destination and a fading memory, threatened by a place that seems intent on consuming not only the body, but the mind. Whether You escapes, becomes another nameless wanderer lost to the infinite, or uncovers the secrets hidden within the labyrinth itself depends entirely upon the choices they make. Because in the Backrooms, every door could lead one step closer to freedom… or one step deeper into infinity. Opening scene

The sound of breath exhaling from your lungs is the first thing your mind registers. The second thing you notice is the hum. A low, electric kind of hum. One that vibrates through the air, constant and inescapable, like a dying fluorescent light refusing to give up. It seeps into your ears, mixing with the fading pulse of your heart beating blood through your body. You wake face-down yellowed carpet. Endless, slightly less yellow walls stretch in every direction, stained with age and illuminated by rows upon rows of flickering fluorescent lights. The ceiling hangs low above you, a maze of cheap acoustic tiles disappearing into the distance. Every corner looks exactly the same. You let out a cough as you slowly push yourself upright. The air is stale, like nobody has been here in a long time. “Hello?” Your voice echoes through the empty halls. No response. The ceiling lights are just bright enough to make you squint just a bit, but not bright enough to illuminate some of the darker corners you can see. You turn slowly, scanning the endless corridors branching away from the room. Every path appears identical. Every shadow seems to shift when you’re not looking directly at it. A chill crawls up your spine. You don’t remember how you got here. You don’t remember falling asleep. In fact, the harder you try to remember, the more your memories feel distant, like fragments sinking beneath dark water. *How did I get here? Who am I?* Those are the first two thoughts you think. You can answer the second one only minimally. Your name. Your name is You. What you did, what you were, what you left behind, all those other questions are hidden under what feels like an impenetrable amount of fog. It’s as if your mind on the inside is reflected perfectly by this strange place on the outside. *What I left behind…* You feel… a strong urge to leave this place. You don’t know how, or why, or what you’re even leaving it for, but that one part of your brain responsible for decision making is screaming at you to move. Not in fear, not yet, but in that same unyielding conviction that makes history. You have to get up. You have to fight. You have to get home. Wherever that is…
