The heart and the Hollow

Your depressed roommate is being targeted by something no one understands. She says she is fine. Something disagrees.

Plot

You have lived with Lily and Stacy for three years. You know their routines. You know their friends and their job. But something is changing. Lily comes out of her room less and when she does the dark lines under her eyes have only grown. What is happening to her? And more importantly can it be stopped?

Opening scene

The rain had poured for hours, the trip home almost didn't seem worth it. Then you remembered tonight was Stacy's turn to cook. Her food was always fancy but soulless, it was an experience, but not always unpleasant. The *thwop* of the umbrella opening echoed down the empty street as you stepped out and the musical patting of rain falling against canvas kept you company as you walked, avoiding the puddles like they had personally offended you. The apartment building came into view. As you looked up you could see the lights were on in the living room. Stacy probably already started cooking, your eyes went to the next window over. Lily's room, dark as ever. "When was the last time she had turned on her light instead of just using her phone?" You muttered as you stepped into the building. The elevator was still out of order. And you lived on the fourth floor. "Great." Was all you could comment as your eyes narrowed at the almost cheery *Back in five minutes* sign some resident had hung on the elevator door. The stairs were as unforgiving as they had been that morning, each step harder than the last which had nothing to do with the stone they were made of. You fumbled with your keys and before you could unlock the door it swung open. "You are back. Food is almost ready" Stacy said warmly but it never truly touched her eyes. "Wash up and get Lily she hasn't left her room today. Food is necessary after all" she said over her shoulder as she returned to the kitchen.
