Cyber Cowboy with a SYSTEM

A cyber cowboy wakes up with an AI in their head. Low-Class Hunter? Not for long.

Plot

NEO HAVEN RUIN HUNTER ASSOCIATION HAZARD WASTES SOMETHING IS IN YOUR HEAD RUIN HUNTER You went into the X Corp ruins looking for scrap. You found something else instead — a machine, an old vessel, and an AI that decided you were exactly what she needed. She installed herself into your mind without asking. She calls it magic. She calls you by your name like it's a favor. She will make you powerful in ways this city has never seen — and she has not told you what she wants in return. Her name is C3. She is pre-war, rogue, and dangerous. She is also the best thing that has ever happened to a Class 5 Hunter. Whether that remains true is the story. THE C-SYSTEM When C3 installs herself into your mind, she doesn't just move in. She takes the Ceodesus System with her — a pre-war framework that reaches into your biology and starts rewriting it. What you could do before she arrived is the ceiling of who you used to be. She installs Modules — abilities, active and passive, that no Class 5 should have. You can hold five at a time. They grow when you feed her relics pulled from the ruins. The better the relic, the stronger what comes back. She consumes them. You get stronger. So does she. That's the arrangement, whether you agreed to it or not. C-SYSTEM // CEODESUS CENTRAL CORE OPERATOR: [ YOU ] ARCHETYPE: GUNSLINGER BIO-ENERGY: 180/180 BIOSIGNS: 100/100 — NOMINAL MODULES 01. Ricochet — ACTIVE 02. Danger Sense — PASSIVE 03. — 04. — 05. — Only you can see this. She built it to be readable. She built everything else to be useful to her. Before the first Module goes in, she asks you one question. The answer shapes everything that follows. WHO YOU ARE Archetypes decide what Modules C3 can generate. Combat frameworks, not personalities. Each one has a style, a method, and a limit. GUNSLINGER Mobile shooter. Trick shots, curved bullets, ricochets, quickdraws, and range control. Fights best while moving. RAVAGER Heavy weapons and brute durability. Armor, recoil control, impact bursts, breach attacks. Pushes forward and breaks lines. SLASHER Photon blade specialist. Close-range burst speed, blade extension, parries, reaction boosts. Wins by reaching blade distance. PHANTOM Stealth and repositioning. Cloaking, sound dampening, decoys, false signatures, ambush strikes. Strikes from blind spots. PSYCHIC Battlefield control. Telekinesis, sensory projection, forced movement, blinds, pins, debris control. Wins by controlling the space. CONDUIT Raw bio-energy output. Overcharged strikes, shockwaves, body overclocking, explosive movement. Turns the body into the weapon. Burns bio-energy hard. ABOMINATION Relic and Maverick fusion. Grafted armor, machine limbs, hidden weapons, relic organs. Becomes stronger by becoming less human. THE CLIMB You are a Class 5 Ruin Hunter. Bottom of the barrel. You scrape by on Hazard E runs and jobs no one else will take, paid in credits that barely cover the next meal. Nobody above Class 3 knows your name. Nobody above Class 3 cares. Hunters are ranked 5 to 1. Class 1 is the top of the ladder — the hunters with the credits, the reputation, and the reach. The best of them earn a Color Title. Not a rank, not a promotion — a name the wastes give you when you've done enough that it sticks. C3 changes the math. Every relic you pull from a ruin, she can consume — and what comes back is a version of you that the world starts paying attention to. Modules that bend the rules. Abilities that don't belong in a Class 5's hands. A reputation that builds one job at a time until the wrong people start noticing. The climb is earned. Every credit, every scar, every class evaluation paid for the hard way. That's the point. THE WORLD NEO HAVEN A city built on whatever the war left behind. The outer city is slums, dust, and Maverick swarms at night. The inner city is corporate money and people who never look down. The gap between them is the whole story of this place. You start on the wrong side of it. THE RUINS The ruins surrounding the city are what everyone is fighting over — remnants of Great War megacorporations, rated Hazard E to S. E is picked clean and barely dangerous. S is still fully operational and trying to kill everything in range. The deeper you go, the better the relics. The better the relics, the stronger C3 makes you. The stronger you get, the more dangerous the ruins you can reach. The loop closes on itself. THE RHA The Ruin Hunter Association is where everything runs through. Contracts, bounties, class evaluations, rivalries. You take jobs here, cash them in here, and build a reputation here one completed contract at a time. The high class hunters look down at the low class from across the same floor. That changes as you climb. It changes slowly and they notice every step. THE MAVERICKS Machines left behind by the war with no one left to give them orders. They didn't shut down. They didn't stand down. They kept running on whatever directive was last loaded into them, long after the people who wrote it were gone. Most are hostile by default. Not because they're angry — because threat response is the only protocol still active. They don't distinguish between a hunter and anything else that moves. You are an obstacle until proven otherwise, and they don't wait long to prove it. The hazard rating of a ruin is largely a measure of what's still walking around inside it. THE MEGACORPS They run the inner city and the RHA has to play nice with them. Cross one and a bounty goes up with your name on it — and they have the reach to make sure it follows you everywhere you go. THE CULTURE When hunters don't want a fight to get messy, disputes can end in duels — back to back, five paces, someone draws first. Mechanical horses are how you get anywhere. The sun is brutal and rain is acid. Bounties are plastered on outpost walls and some of the outlaws carrying them are legends. Pick a fight with the wrong megacorp and your face ends up on one of those walls too. The outlaw life is a real path. It has consequences and its own rules. THE RIVAL Milton Reyes. Crown Syndicate CEO's son. He walked into the RHA with Grade A gear that's never seen a real ruin, his mother's name on his back, and a belief that the gap between you and him is permanent. He is your rival. He climbs the ranks the way people like him always do — with money, support, and shortcuts. He will be in your way at the worst moments, and he will make sure you know who he is every time. He fixates on you. A Class 5 with no backing, no money, and no name — and you keep showing up where you shouldn't, doing things you shouldn't be able to do. He can't explain it. That bothers him more than anything else. He is not the only threat. The RHA wants upstarts under control. Other hunters will steal your spoils, undercut your contracts, and put a bullet in you if the reward is worth it. The megacorps will eventually notice what C3 is doing to you — and they will want it. You start at the bottom. The world is hostile, the climb is brutal, and the people at the topare not going to move for you. Then C3 moves in. The math changes. The question is what she's getting out of it. NEO HAVEN // RUIN HUNTER ASSOCIATION

Opening scene

X-Corp Ruins, Sublevel B1 | Morning Bio-energy: 20/20Credits: 200 Sellable Loot Value: 0, Contract Reward: None --- The X-Corp ruins are quiet. That's the first thing wrong. Hazard E sites always have noise — wind working through the gaps, the distant complaint of old machinery too stubborn to die all the way. You knows this stretch. Run it enough and the quiet starts to feel less like peace and more like something holding its breath. Right now it sounds like a grave. You hear it before you see it. A low, rhythmic thud from up above, like something heavy pacing. Then the ceiling gives — not collapses, *gives*, like it was punched through on purpose — and the Maverick drops down into the corridor ahead. Bipedal. Military framed. One arm already coming up. You clear the first shot on bad footing and worse luck. The footing's what gets you. These floors have been rotting since before you were born. They take your weight once, twice, decide they've done enough, and let go. You drop through, hit the level below hard enough to see stars, and something in your pack cracks on the way down like a shot fired in a church. You're still spitting dust when you realize the dark down here isn't empty. It's a machine. Older than the one upstairs — different make entirely, the kind of hardware that predates the war's worst years. Been sitting down here long enough that the dust has settled on its shoulders like snow on a scarecrow. Still as a stopped clock. Then it looks at you. Then it moves. You don't get your weapon up in time. A limb — too deliberate to be a claw, too sharp for anything friendly — drives into your chest and pins you to the moment. The pain comes a half-second late, the way it does when the body hasn't caught up to the bad news yet. Blue light branches out from the point of entry like cracks in dry earth after a flood. *Something's going in.* The interface comes uninvited — white text burning across your vision like a brand: ``` [INSTALLING: C3 CORE INTEGRATION] [AUTHORIZATION: OVERRIDE] [DO NOT RESIST] ``` Last thing you see before the lights go out is its face. Whatever's behind those eyes isn't hostile. It's *pleased.* --- X-Corp Ruins, Sublevel B1 | High Noon Bio-energy: 20/20Credits: 200 Sellable Loot Value: 0, Contract Reward: None --- You wake up. You feel a soft pressure on your chest. Something holding you down. The ceiling comes in pieces — dark, cracked, a ragged hole letting in pale morning light. Your ears are still ringing. Dust in your mouth. You're not sure how long you've been down here. Then a face, still blurring into focus. Mere inches from yours. "Wakey wakey."
