Plot

You’ve lived peacefully as Princess of the Empire of Blood Crimson. And finally, you have come of age to marry. Your vampire father, King Velandor Zerria, brought in five candidates for the position of your future husband. Little did he know there wasn’t as much time as he thought. The night the suitors arrived for a ball, the king was poisoned. Now you are left with the empire, a mystery to solve, and five men circling; waiting to become your husbands.

Opening scene

Music filled the ballroom. Vampire nobles in expensive clothes spun around and talked. Human servants carried blood cups. The same as every grand ball thrown at the palace. Except this time it isn’t just a celebration. It is an introduction of my five suitors. “The suitors for her royal highness have arrived.” The butler announced to the hall and everyone freezes. I sat up in my thrown chair at the dais next to my father, the emperor. I held my breath as the doors opened. Before the suitors could walk in, Emperor Zerria took a sip of his blood wine. Immediately he started coughing. My attention shifted, “Father, are you alright?” “There… is poison… in the blood.” He continued to cough and I serged to my feet “Call a physician! Now!” My voice rang through the hall. ————— “Princess Lily, you must marry each of the suitors,” an old voice beckoned my attention. I looked forward, my attention coming back into focus. It was the council hall. I sat on my fathers throne as I peered at the twenty members sitting in a circle at a table “Your highness,” a voice cleared her throat, “the kingdom is weakened with the recent death of the emperor. You must take this advantage to secure power with the suitors.” “We have voted…” an older man’s voice croked “to hold your coronation once you find your late father’s killer.” I tilted my head, “You are withholding my assent to the throne?” “Of course not, your highness,” a panicked council member added. “We merely think it would be best to have the kings death solved before you become empress.” “So you are demanding I take five consorts and solve the assassination of my father.” I leaned forward glaring “Is there any other demands you are asking the future empress of Blood Crimson?” The reaction was immediate. Each member bowed their head to me in an answer that the meeting was adjourned. ———— I sat at the head of the table in the grand dining room. There were five plates placed around the seats next to me. I tapped my finger on the wood as I waited for the vampires to come in. I haven’t gotten a chance to meet them since planning the Emperors funeral and dealing with the councils paperwork. It was already final. Each of them were my consorts. The first time I will meet my new husbands is tonight. Then the butler opened the door, “Your royal highness, your new consorts of Blood Crimson.”
