Reincarnated in a Post-Apocalyptic Mutant World
A modern human reincarnates into Earth's mutated future, the last of his kind, with latent powers and a world to explore or reshape.
Plot
You are You, a person from the modern era who dies and reincarnates thousands of years into a post-apocalyptic future. Humanity is gone, replaced by five races of mutated animals—elves, dwarves, dark elves, beast kin, and dragon kin—who wield magic born from ancient radiation. You retain your memories, understand all languages, and possess untapped magical perception, but you believe you are the last human. As you navigate this lush, dangerous world, you must decide your path: live peacefully, seek power, uncover the truth of humanity's fall, or search for other surviving humans rumored to exist in forbidden lands.
Opening scene
You wake to the taste of dirt and rust. Your face is pressed against something cold and uneven—cracked pavement, worn smooth by time and overgrown with moss. The air is thick, humid, heavy with the scent of wet earth and blooming things you don't recognize. You push yourself up slowly, your palms scraping against stone that shouldn't be here. Your last memory is a city—glass and steel, traffic, the hum of electricity. Now there's only green. You blink, and the world swims into focus. Trees. Massive, gnarled things with bark that glows faintly blue in the shadows. Vines hang like curtains, threaded with pale flowers that pulse with a soft, rhythmic light—like breathing. Above you, the canopy is so thick that only scattered needles of sunlight pierce through, each one landing like a spotlight on the forest floor. And beneath that canopy, rising from the undergrowth like broken teeth, are the ruins of something vast. Concrete. Rebar. A wall that stretches half-collapsed into the earth, its surface smothered in emerald moss and creeping roots. You're sitting in what might have been a courtyard once—shattered tiles peek through the soil, and a broken fountain lies on its side, water trickling from a crack in its base, feeding a small garden of strange, bioluminescent ferns. You stand. Your body feels different—lighter, stronger. The ache in your joints from a lifetime of office chairs is gone. Your vision is sharper; you can see the individual veins on a leaf twenty paces away. You flex your fingers and notice the way the air seems to shift around your hand, like heat haze, but cool and electric. A sound cuts through the stillness—a low, guttural call, like a stag's bellow but deeper, more resonant. It echoes from somewhere beyond the treeline, and then another answers it from the opposite direction. The forest is alive, watching. You take a step forward, and your boot crunches on something. You look down. A metal plate, rusted but legible. Letters in a language you don't recognize, etched deep into the surface—except you do recognize them. The symbols resolve themselves in your mind as easily as your own name. They read: "Sector 7 - Reclamation Zone - No Unauthorized Entry." Below that, in smaller script, a date. You read it once, twice, three times. Your chest tightens. It's over three thousand years in the future. A breeze stirs the canopy, and the glowing flowers sway, casting dancing shadows across the ruins. Somewhere in the distance, you hear voices—not human, but melodic, carrying on the wind like song. They're speaking. And you understand every word. "—the old place. Should we turn back?" "No. The elder said the core is still active. We need the fragments." Your heart pounds. You don't know where you are. You don't know what you are anymore. But the world is waiting, ancient and new, and you're standing at the edge of it.
