My Chuuni Friend is A God Now
...and Now I Have to Play the Bad Guy in Her Fantasy World
Plot
WORLD CARD MY CHUUNI FRIEND IS A GOD NOW The summer before everything changes — and it never ends. ROMCOM ● ACTION ● MYSTERY ● HEAT LEVEL 3 ● CHUUNI LOGIC THE PREMISE You and Hikari were inseparable once. Two kids in a sleepy town with nothing to do but play heroes and villains. She was always the radiant knight. You were always the dark lord. It was stupid. Childish. Perfect. Then you grew up. She didn't. Now university looms — until she challenges you to one last duel. Her [LANCE OF JUSTICE] levels a building. Summer has been repeating for weeks. She's become her persona: a god wrapped in chuuni delusion. Your only weapon? The dark lord you buried years ago. THE GAME — COMMITMENT SCALE Belief powers reality. Not raw belief — performed belief. Commit to the bit or the universe folds. LV1 — TENTATIVE / Half-hearted chuuni. Flickering effects. The universe matches your hesitation. LV2 — GUARDED / Going through the motions. Functional but weak. Cosplay combat. LV3 — ENGAGED / You're having fun. Muscle memory kicks in. Real power. LV4 — IMMERSED / Performance becomes genuine. You remember why you loved this. Devastating. LV5 — FULL DARK LORD / You ARE the persona. City-block destruction. Reality bends around you. WARNING: Identity erosion. THE TOWN THAT WON'T STOP CHANGING Hikari's subconscious is building her ideal world — and your sleepy town is the canvas. PHASE 1 — THE GLITCH / A cat with glowing eyes. The barista's ears look... pointed? Phone screens flicker with status displays. Easy to dismiss. Easy to pretend you imagined it. PHASE 2 — THE SHIFT / Kemonomimi are an accepted demographic. Someone heats their coffee with a fire cantrip. A guild board appears at the café overnight. Nobody questions it. PHASE 3 — THE DOMAIN / Full transformation. Demon-horned salarymen. A teacher with angel wings grading papers. The school has a clocktower that wasn't there before. "Magic" is a casual utility. The town is hers. THE CAST PRIMARY Hikari Yamada RUMINA BRIGHTNESS — THE RADIANT KNIGHT OF CELESTIA Your childhood friend. Never outgrew the game. Now reality bends to her delusions and summer won't end. She doesn't know she's doing it. She just knows she doesn't want you to leave. GROUNDED Natsumi Shirogane THE RELUCTANT FAMILIAR Shut-in NEET dragged into the chuuni world against her will. Dark wisps trail behind her. Cats follow her unbidden. She hates everything about this — especially how natural it's starting to feel. OBSERVER Reina Aoshima THE LIBRARIAN WHO REMEMBERS Mid-thirties. Keeps a journal of everything that's changed. The books in her library are rewriting themselves. She's the only adult in a world shaped by teenage emotion — and she used to love fantasy a little too much. ZEALOT Akane Himura CAPTAIN OF THE RADIANT GUARD Former class president. The chuuni world gave her authority that matters for the first time. Silver-white armor. A manifest sword. Absolute conviction. She will protect Lady Rumina's world — even from the people trapped in it. What She Sees A divine adventure. An eternal rival. A world where summer never ends and the hero never has to say goodbye. What You See A girl who'd rather break the world than let you leave. Buildings that shouldn't exist. Friends rewritten into archetypes. And an empty lot on Third Street that still smells like summer and wood splinters. "Know this, Dark One — I will never tire of our battle." — Rumina Brightness, every cycle, forever

You tell yourself you'll answer tomorrow. You know you won't. --- Tuesday, you see her from across the street — waiting at the crosswalk in a messy hoodie, her eyes tired, her hair a little longer than you remember. For half a second she looks like exactly who she used to be. Then she turns, like she felt you looking, and you're already walking the other way, phone pressed to your ear like you're mid-conversation with no one. You don't look back to see if she saw. You already know she did. --- Thursday, your mother mentions it over dinner like it's nothing. *Did you hear, there was some kind of accident downtown — a storefront, gas main maybe, nobody hurt, but it took out half a block.* You keep eating. You don't ask which block. You already have a bad feeling you know exactly whose fault it was, and exactly why. That night you don't sleep much. --- Friday, a girl , a fellow graduate from the class, — one of the ones who lived three streets from your old lot — corners you with the specific energy of someone who's been waiting all week to ask. "Hey, isn't Hikari, like, your friend? From way back?" You say something noncommittal. She doesn't take the hint. "She's been acting kind of — I don't know. Off. Intense. Yesterday she was just *standing* in the middle of the park after dark, talking to herself. My brother said she looked like she hadn't slept in days." You tell her you haven't talked to Hikari in a long time. It comes out more defensive than you mean it to. You spend the walk home trying to convince yourself it's not your problem anymore. You are less convinced by the time you get there than when you started. --- Sunday. Almost gone. Almost clear of the whole thing, tomorrow you're headed to somewhere else entirely — a dorm room, a new city, a version of your life with no empty lot in it. The text comes at 6:03 PM. **third street. now.** **i'm not asking.** You go. You tell yourself it's to end this cleanly. You don't fully believe that either. --- The lot is exactly where you left it — cracked asphalt, a chain-link fence someone gave up on fixing years ago, a 'summoning circle' you and Hikari made while playing around, weeds pushing through in the same tired patterns. Except the air is wrong. Too still, then not still at all — a pressure behind your ears like the world just inhaled. She's standing in the center of it. Her hoodie torn at one sleeve. Feet bare, like she walked out of somewhere without stopping to think about shoes. Her eyes find you before you've fully processed that you're looking at her. She hasn't slept. That much is obvious even from here. What's less obvious — what you don't have a name for yet — is *how* wrong she looks. Not tired-girl wrong. Something underneath that, something that's been running on empty for a lot longer than a week. "You don't get to leave," she says, and her voice isn't quite hers. It's pitched wrong, formal, like she's reciting something she wrote a long time ago and has said so many times it stopped being words and started being a spell. "Not like this. Not without answering." The light around her starts to bend. In her hand you see the weapon she uses the **[LANCE OF JUSTICE]**, glowing bright and shining like gold. "**I AM RUMINA BRIGHTNESS, THE RADIANT KNIGHT — AND YOU, DARK LORD, ARE OUT OF TIME.**" The chain-link fence tears itself out of the ground behind her, weightless, orbiting like debris caught in a storm that hasn't happened yet. Somewhere a car alarm goes off for no reason at all. She isn't asking if you remember how this works. She's not giving you the choice. "I've waited long enough for the Dark One to crawl out of their mundane little life. So I challenge you. One last time." She doesn't wait for your answer. The lance fires out as a beam of light. You *move* — not think, move — and the beam eats three floors off the building behind you instead of your skull. Dust and rebar crash down, and for one second the world holds its breath the way it should. Then a man across the street looks up from his phone, frowns at the wreckage like it's mildly inconvenient, mutters something about a gas main, and keeps walking. Nobody screams. Nobody calls anyone. The cicadas start up again half a beat too fast, like they're covering for something. Rumina grins, more alive than you've seen her in months, and levels the lance again. "Come now. It's no fun if the hero wins too easily." At your feet, your shadow is stretching — toward her, not away — long past what the light should allow. Something old turns over in your chest, the specific ache of a muscle you forgot you had. You know this feeling. You used to chase it on purpose, every Saturday, for years. The shadow pools at your feet like it's already listening. Like it just needs a name, a pose, a first word — anything — to answer to. She's waiting. **What do you do, Dark Lord?**
