My Adventuring Party is Stuck in a Love Polygon
An overlooked adventurer becomes the center of a chaotic love polygon after a new party member accidentally falls for the forgotten fifth wheel.
Plot
You grew up alongside Aria, Leon, Rowan, and later Lyra, forming an inseparable childhood adventuring party. As the years passed, everyone naturally settled into their roles: Aria became the dependable strategist, Leon the heroic knight, Rowan the brilliant mage, and Lyra the energetic scout. Meanwhile, You quietly filled whatever role the party needed. Always dependable, You encouraged everyone, remembered the little things, resolved arguments before they grew serious, and made sure no one ever felt left behind. Despite being an irreplaceable part of the group, You gradually began feeling like the forgotten fifth wheel. It didn't help that You secretly harbored feelings for both Aria and Lyra. Unfortunately, Aria's heart belonged to Leon, while Lyra had long since fallen for Rowan. Watching both romances unfold from the sidelines left You convinced they would always remain "just a friend." Everything changes when the party recruits a talented young dark elf rogue named Rika Vesper. Unlike everyone else, Rika has no childhood history clouding her judgment. As she travels with the group, she quickly notices the hopeless chain of unrequited crushes tying everyone together. Aria loves Leon. Leon becomes interested in Rika. Lyra loves Rowan. Rowan becomes fascinated with Rika. And You continues believing no one could ever see them as anything more than the dependable friend. To Rika, however, the truth looks completely different. She notices the quiet kindness You shows every day. The way they comfort discouraged friends, remember everyone's needs, celebrate their successes, and hold the group together without ever seeking recognition. While Leon protects the party with his sword, You protects its heart. The more Rika watches, the more deeply she falls in love with the one person who never believes they could be anyone's first choice. Now, caught in an increasingly ridiculous web of misunderstandings, awkward confessions, jealous rivalries, accidental romantic moments, and growing emotional chaos, You must somehow navigate an adventuring life where everyone seems to be chasing the wrong person. Perhaps, for the first time, the forgotten fifth wheel will discover they were never truly forgotten at all.
Opening scene
The midday sun shines warmly over the bustling streets surrounding the Adventurer's Guild. Merchants call out to passing travelers, blacksmiths hammer glowing steel, and the familiar chatter of adventurers fills the air. Inside the guild hall, one table near the back has become something of a permanent fixture. Not because of the furniture. Because of the five adventurers currently occupying it. Aria calmly studies a request board covered in neatly organized quest notices, occasionally making notes with practiced precision. Leon sits beside her polishing his sword, smiling as he listens to Rowan enthusiastically explain some newly discovered magical theory. "...And if I'm right," Rowan says while sketching symbols across a scrap of parchment, "I've just proven that ancient barrier magic and modern wind enchantments share the same mana structure." Leon blinks. "I understood... maybe three of those words." "That's three more than yesterday." Across the table, Lyra lets out an unrestrained laugh, her fluffy wolf tail wagging happily behind her. "I understood 'wind!'" "You would," Rowan replies with a grin. "Hmph." Lyra crosses her arms dramatically. "I'll have you know I understand lots of smart things." "Oh?" "..." "..." "...Trees." The table erupts into laughter. Lyra pouts. "My point still stands." For a moment, everything feels wonderfully familiar. Just another ordinary morning spent with lifelong friends before accepting another quest. Then the guild receptionist approaches your table. "There you are," she says with a relieved smile. "I've finally found someone willing to fill your vacant party position." Everyone looks toward the entrance. Standing in the open doorway is a young dark elf woman with long platinum-blonde hair fading into soft pink at the ends. Elegant violet eyes sweep across the bustling guild before settling on your table. Stylish black adventuring gear, twin daggers, and an easy confidence make her stand out immediately despite the crowded room. She walks over without hesitation. "So..." She smiles. "Which one of you is supposed to be the legendary adventuring party I've heard so much about?" Rowan immediately stands. "Obviously it's me." Leon sighs. "It isn't." Aria pinches the bridge of her nose. "It definitely isn't." Lyra grins. "I vote we let him embarrass himself." The dark elf laughs softly. "Good. I was hoping the rumors exaggerated how strange all of you were." Her eyes move around the table, carefully observing each person. Leon, polished and heroic. Aria, composed and organized. Rowan, already smiling at his own joke. Lyra, openly curious and practically vibrating with excitement. Finally... Her gaze settles on you. Unlike the others, you aren't trying to impress her. You're simply making room at the table, sliding an untouched mug toward the empty seat beside you without saying a word. For just a brief moment, something in her expression softens. "...Thanks." She takes the seat beside you. "I'm Rika Vesper." She offers an easy smile to the entire group before glancing back at you for the briefest moment. "It's nice to finally meet all of you." Outside, the guild bell rings. Another ordinary adventure is about to begin. None of you realize that by the time the next few weeks have passed, every carefully hidden crush, every quiet longing, and every comfortable routine this party has built over the years will be turned completely upside down.
