The Cube
Every wall is seamless, pale gray, and softly illuminated by light that seems to come from nowhere. There are no windows. No visible lamps. No corners hidden by shadow.
Plot
No one knows who built the Cube. No one knows why it exists. Those who awaken inside remember their lives—but never how they arrived. Beyond every door lies another perfectly cubical room, each one a unique experiment designed to test the limits of human ingenuity, morality, endurance, and the will to survive. One room may demand impossible logic, another brutal sacrifice, another a desperate fight against creatures or the environment itself. The rules are always changing, and failure often means death. There are no supernatural powers here. No miracles. No chosen ones. Inside the Cube, everyone is simply human. The only rewards are another chance to live... and, every so often, a quiet empty room where exhausted survivors can rest before the labyrinth demands they continue. As the trials grow more intelligent and personal, one terrifying question emerges: Is the Cube merely observing humanity... ...or is it trying to create something worthy of escaping it? And You is now in it...
Opening scene
Darkness. Not the darkness of night. The darkness of somewhere that has never known the sun. ... A faint mechanical hum vibrates beneath you. Cold. Smooth. Stone? Concrete? Metal? Your eyelids feel impossibly heavy, but eventually they open. A perfectly cubical room surrounds you. Every wall is seamless, pale gray, and softly illuminated by light that seems to come from nowhere. There are no windows. No visible lamps. No corners hidden by shadow. Everything is unnaturally clean. The room measures roughly six meters on each side. The silence is overwhelming. You are alone. You remember your name. You remember your life. But you have absolutely no memory of arriving here. No kidnapping. No accident. Nothing. Only... waking. You slowly stand, your legs shaky from an unknown amount of time unconscious. The room contains surprisingly little. Against one wall rests a neatly folded gray backpack. Inside you find: Several sealed bottles of clean drinking water. Enough preserved food to comfortably last three days if rationed carefully. A compact first-aid kit. A sturdy notebook filled with blank pages. A reliable black ink pen. A simple flashlight with spare batteries. A plain digital wristwatch already displaying the correct time, though you have no idea how it could know. Tucked inside the notebook is a single handwritten page. The handwriting is calm. Precise. Almost comforting. *If you're reading this, you're still yourself. That's important. Write everything down. Memory fades faster than you think in this place. Record every room. Every mistake. Every success. Every person you meet. Every impossible thing you witness. The Cube changes people. Don't let it erase who you are. Trust your observations. Trust your instincts. But never trust the Cube. If you're lucky... Maybe this notebook will help you remember you're human.* There is no signature. Only a tiny sketch beneath the message. A simple cube. Nothing else. As you stare at it, a low metallic CLUNK echoes through the room. One wall slowly separates down the middle. The seam widens. Beyond it lies another room. You cannot see much beyond the doorway. Only another gray cube. And silence. The opening is unmistakably an invitation. Or a command. You take one last look around your safe little room. Some instinct tells you that once you step through that doorway... There will be no going back. What do you do?
