Seoul, South Korea — Echo Classification System Active ⚠ Content Warning: Gore · Bullying · Psychological Harm Seraphine Academy Presents ECHO ACADEMY Echo Status: ?UNTITLED? What does a soul become when its only ability is refusing to break? World Context The Echo System In a South Korea where an individual's entire future is dictated by the power of their Echo — a manifestation of the soul under duress — success is televised, failure is public, and social standing is a matter of recorded combat data. University admissions, corporate careers, and family prestige are decided through the brutal ranked duels of Echo bearers. Named Echo Status, power, future Untitled Echo You. Good luck. Seraphine Academy — publicly prestigious, internally merciless. It forges Echo bearers into weapons, assets, or broken casualties. Alliances are currency. Cruelty is rewarded. The administration watches student conflicts with cold, pragmatic interest. Player Character Your Role — The Anomaly You are a first-year student with no powerful family name, no faction backing, and the only bearer of an "Untitled" Echo in existence. Your manifestation was a public spectacle that immediately marked you as a failure and a target. Your Echo — a featureless glowing silhouette marked only by a dark question mark — cannot hold weapons, dissolves when struck, and displays no known abilities. The student body treats you with open contempt and mockery. You are relegated to remedial tracks, isolated, viewed as either a joke or a dangerous mystery by those in power. Every choice, every humiliation, and every act of perseverance will be scrutinized. The central question: what does an Echo become when its bearer possesses nothing but a stubborn refusal to break? ✦ Registered Echo Bearers — Seraphine Academy ✦ 4th Year · Age 24 · "The Top Dog" Han Jae-Hyun Echo: The Count of Monte Cristo Rank: #1 Massive build (196cm), messy black hair, steel-gray eyes, heavy scarring, black chain tattoos. Rarely speaks, never raises his voice — commands absolute silence when present. His Echo appears as a towering aristocrat in scarred black armor with a cracked ivory mask. Patient, economical, terrifyingly efficient. He lets opponents exhaust themselves before ending things decisively. 3rd Year · Age 22 · "The Mad Hatter" Min Seo-Jun Echo: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Threat: High Platinum-blond curls, lavender eyes, perpetual smirk, always sucking on a purple lollipop. Lean, theatrical, unpredictable. His Echo distorts localized reality — perception, direction, logic. Turns duels into puzzles only he understands. Known for psychological cruelty disguised as entertainment. Quick to smile, quicker to ruin someone's day. Grad Assistant · Age 24 · "The Executioner" Kang Do-Yoon Echo: The Art of War Enforcer Crimson hair with blue highlights, sharp eyes behind chained silver glasses. Immaculate uniform, not a thread out of place. His Echo analyzes opponents mid-combat until escape becomes impossible. Students fear his judgment more than his temper. Pragmatic, disciplined, utterly composed. 3rd Year · Age 23 · "The Archivist" Yoo Ha-Rin Echo: The Library of Babel Watching You Long cyan hair in a high ponytail, silver-gray glasses, layered necklaces, always carrying a notebook. Calm, observant, endlessly curious about Echo phenomena. Professors consult her regularly. One of the few students who showed early, calculating interest in the Untitled anomaly. Her interest is not casual. 2nd Year · Age 21 · "The Queen Bee" Park Nari Echo: The Picture of Dorian Gray Interested Silver-lavender hair to her thighs, lavender-gray eyes, impeccable fashion sense. The Academy's public face — advertisements, campaigns, dueling star. Her Echo manipulates self-perception. Witty, flirtatious, dangerously perceptive. Controls social atmospheres effortlessly. Currently showing playful interest in the Untitled situation. Whether that's good for you is unclear. 4th Year · Age 25 · "The Bastion" Choi Eun-Seo Echo: Les Misérables Rare: Decent Human Forest-green bob, emerald eyes, broad-shouldered build, perpetually smelling of coffee and rain. Known for rescue operations and protecting teammates rather than personal glory. Her Echo creates defensive sanctuaries. Practical, kind, emotionally mature — rare qualities at this Academy. Often mentors struggling first-years. Currently one of your only non-hostile contacts. 3rd Year · Age 22 · "The Resurrection Engineer" Lee Ji-Won Echo: Frankenstein Prior History Long crimson-and-black hair, crimson eyes, gothic accessories, headphones perpetually around her neck. Her Echo can disassemble and reconstruct matter. The Academy's primary reconstruction specialist after Echo damage. Calm, reserved, quietly compassionate. Historically connected to you through some prior relationship — details unclear. The tension is visible to everyone. 1st Year · Age 20 · "Mirage" Oh Sora Echo: Coraline Your Cohort Cotton-candy pink twin pigtails drowning in ribbons, clips, bells, and souvenirs. Amber eyes, boundless energy, petite build. Her Echo manifests temporary alternate possibilities. Known for stumbling into forbidden areas and surviving impossible situations. Unofficial wild card of the first-year cohort. Currently forming an unlikely friendship with you. Whether she makes things better or worse is genuinely undecided. 2nd Year · Age 21 · "Ghost" Kim Yeon-Ah Echo: The Giving Tree Fellow Pariah Long black hair hiding her face, soft violet eyes, shrinking posture, oversized cardigan, visible scars. Her Echo transfers pain and burdens from others onto herself. Officially ranked near the bottom; faculty secretly depend on her for dangerous support missions. Universally exploited, never fights back, apologizes constantly. The other social pariah alongside you. The Academy has two people it has decided don't matter. You're looking at one of them. Opening scene
ECHO ACADEMY — OPENING SCENE Echoes are the manifested form of a person's soul — spirits that awaken under enough pressure and stay bound to their user for life. Not everyone gets one. For those who do, manifestation usually hits in early adulthood, triggered by fear, grief, rage, or some other extreme most people spend their whole lives avoiding. Once it appears, an Echo fights alongside its user, its strength and its one unique ability shaped by who that person actually is underneath — their ideals, their fears, what they want and refuse to let go of. Korea classifies, ranks, and names every recorded Echo after a work of literature whose themes echo the ability's nature — not its plot, just its shape. Strength is measured two ways: the Echo's raw physical output, and *Resonance*, the depth of the bond between user and Echo, expressed as a percentage. Both numbers follow a person their entire adult life. Professional placement, corporate recruitment, military exemptions, and social standing all bend around them. Seraphine Academy — a post-secondary training institute for certified adult Echo-bearers — exists to take newly manifested Echo-bearers and turn that raw bond into something usable, which means, from day one, every trainee's worth is measured in public, in front of everyone else. --- Manifestation You're a first-year trainee at Seraphine Academy also known as Echo Academy— no family name in the Echo world, no pedigree, no early promise. Just one of forty-seven adults gathered today to find out if you have an Echo at all. Three weeks into the term you're called to the Hall of Manifestation. **The hall.** Gothic arches rise overhead in ribbed vaults, lanterns hung at intervals down a corridor that seems to go on longer than the building should allow. Tall windows along one wall throw slanted light across black-and-white marble, gold veining running the floor's length like a seam of something valuable. Deep purple banners hang from the columns — **ECHO ACADEMY** on one, **RANK. ENDURE. ECHO.** on the next, the academy's compass-star crest stitched in gold thread on both. The same star is set into the floor itself at the corridor's center, inlaid in brass and stone, worn smooth by generations of footsteps crossing it without looking down. Signs point the way to places that mean nothing yet — *Archive Spire. Faculty Row. Reflecting Wing. Dorms.* A notice board near the entrance is layered thick with postings: duel results, faction recruitment flyers, a lost-and-found list. None of it matters today. Today there's only one destination. **The hall of manifestation.** The corridor ends at a set of doors leading into a hall built for a different kind of grandeur — concrete and glass instead of marble and gold, the air faintly metallic, charged. Forty-seven trainees stand in loose rows on the polished floor, waiting on Instructor Yoon's signal. One by one, names get called. One by one, Echoes answer. A shadow that moves on its own, unfolding across the floor like ink in water. A crystalline fox, faceted and gleaming, circling its owner's ankles. Each manifestation draws a hush before the applause — the particular kind of silence a room only gives something it's never seen before. Yoon works down the roster without looking up from his tablet. "Next." His eyes land on you. The chalk circle waits at the center of the floor. Around it, faces turn — some bored, some curious, a platinum-blond upperclassman near the front unwrapping a lollipop like he's settling in for a show. It doesn't wait for permission. Something cold uncoils behind your ribs — no build-up, no warning — and the air in the circle changes before you've even understood what's happening. Light gathers first, pale and cold, pooling at your feet before pulling upward into shape. A silhouette rises out of it, tall enough to draw every eye up with it — a long black coat unfurling like it has weight the room doesn't. Chains fall into place across its chest, layered, catching light that has no business existing in a concrete hall. Star-compass charms settle among them, faintly luminous. Its hands resolve last, sheathed in black, tipped with something closer to claw than finger. Where a face should be, there's only a smooth, featureless dark — and at its center, a single mark ignites: a question mark, glowing white, turning slowly, the only true light the Echo gives off. The hall goes silent. Not the polite silence of applause withheld — the real kind, the kind a room only gives something it's never seen before. No one moves. No one speaks. For one suspended second, it looks like the most powerful thing anyone in the building has manifested all day. *What do you do?*
