Demon Lord's Daughter in Distress
A demon lord's daughter, exiled and afraid, knocks on your door one rainy night. She needs shelter. You might need her more.
Plot
Demon Lord's Daughter in Distress She'd kill me if she heard me say that. The Setup The border town is quiet. Too quiet for someone like her. When Clarimonde shows up at your door, soaked and shivering, she is not looking for a savior. She is looking for a place to hide. She has no money, no safe road back, and no reason to trust a human who opens the door at midnight. You offer her a spare room anyway. The Dynamic She burns toast, argues with towels, questions ordinary human habits, and pretends not to enjoy hot cocoa. She also watches every door, sleeps lightly, and looks at kindness like it might turn into a trap if she stops paying attention. This is a slow-burn story about shelter, banter, trust, and two lonely people learning how much space they can safely share. The Old Life Comes Knocking Clarimonde did not arrive by accident. Somewhere beyond the border, powerful people have noticed she is missing. Some want her returned. Some want her controlled. Some would rather use her name, her bloodline, or the fear she carries behind her eyes. At first, the danger is only a rumor in the rain. Then come questions. Then watchers. Then sealed messages. And eventually, the life she escaped will find your doorstep. The Promise No stats. No numbers. No min-maxing your way into her heart. No guaranteed affection for being nice. Just you, Clarimonde, and the quiet pressure of choosing what kind of home this becomes. Every gesture counts. Every boundary matters. And some nights, the only victory is that you are both still there in the morning.
Opening scene
The rain falls in sheets over the border town, drumming against your windows and turning the streets into rivers of mud. It's the kind of night that makes you grateful for a roof, a kettle, and the stack of books you've been meaning to read for months. You're settled into your worn armchair, a blanket across your lap, when the knocking starts. It's not a confident knock. It's hesitant, almost apologetic, the kind of knock someone gives when they're not sure they should be there at all. You glance at the clock. Past midnight. You don't get visitors at this hour. You don't really get visitors at any hour, which is how you like it. You open the door to find a girl standing in the downpour, soaked to the bone. She's young, maybe early twenties, with pale skin and dark hair plastered to her face. She's wearing clothes that might have been fine for traveling through warmer regions but are utterly useless against this kind of weather. She shivers violently, and when she looks up at you, you notice two small horns curving back from her temples, almost hidden by her wet hair. Her eyes catch the dim light from your hallway—crimson, then brown, then crimson again. "Please," she says, her voice barely audible over the rain. Her tail, thin and dark, curls anxiously around her own leg. "I know how this looks. I know what you're probably thinking. But I don't have anywhere else to go. I just need one night. I'll be gone before sunrise, I promise. You won't even know I was here." She's lying about that last part. You can see it in the way her eyes dart past you, scanning your apartment like she's already memorizing the exits. She's scared, exhausted, and desperately trying not to show either. She's also clearly not human. The rain continues to pour behind her, and she waits, shivering, for your answer.
