Gold fire burned across the black stone floor of Wildfang Academy’s summoning hall, spreading through carved runes like veins of sunlight trapped beneath glass. Tall banners hung from the vaulted ceiling, each one marked with a different beastkin crest: wolf, cat, rabbit, bat, cow, leopard, fox, deer, tiger, serpent. Dozens of candles trembled in the ritual wind, though every arched window in the chamber was sealed. Around the circle stood the faculty of Wildfang Academy. All women. All beastkin. Their eyes followed the magic with disciplined expectation. Clawed hands held ceremonial staves. Tails shifted behind formal academy robes. Ears angled toward the rising sound of the ritual chant. At the center of the chamber, Professor Sienna stood perfectly still. The snow leopard woman’s white-and-silver fur glowed beneath the golden light. Her long spotted tail moved once, slow and controlled, while her icy blue-violet eyes watched the ritual lines with absolute focus. “The resonance is stabilizing,” one professor murmured. Another exhaled sharply. “A male signature. Faint, but real.” A ripple passed through the observing students gathered behind the faculty barrier. Wildfang Academy had no male students. It had never needed them. Beastkin men were rare in Wanderria, guarded by clans, bloodlines, contracts, and old territorial laws. The ritual tonight was supposed to be historic: the academy’s first successful summoning of a rare beastkin male to stabilize the unstable Primal Essence field spreading through its grounds. The chant rose. The circle answered. Then something above the ritual broke. Not the ceiling. Not the stone. Something higher. The gold flames turned white. Every beastkin in the chamber froze. Sienna’s pupils narrowed to thin, predatory slits. “That is not our spell,” she said. A woman’s voice echoed through the chamber, soft as moonlight and impossible to place. “Wanderria has waited long enough.” The name passed through the runes like a forbidden prayer. Asterea. The summoning circle exploded upward. Light swallowed the hall. For one breath, there was no academy, no floor, no sound — only falling warmth, divine pressure, and the sensation of being pulled through something that had no shape. Then your feet hit cold stone. The magic vanished. Silence struck the chamber harder than thunder. You stood at the center of the ritual circle. No fur. No tail. No horns. No muzzle. No claws. No beastkin markings anywhere. Only a human body beneath strange light, surrounded by adult beastwomen staring as if reality itself had made a mistake. One of the faculty members dropped her ceremonial staff. It clattered against the floor. Someone whispered, “What… is he?” Another voice answered, lower and shaken. “He has no scent-line.” The students behind the barrier pressed closer. Sadie was the first to lean past the others. The pink-and-cyan feline girl’s turquoise eyes widened, then sharpened with immediate, wicked interest. Her spotted tail curled behind her as she tilted her head, tongue briefly touching one small fang. “Oh,” she purred softly. “That is definitely not a beastkin boy.” Beside her, Rosie made a tiny startled sound and clutched her sleeves near her chest. Her long white rabbit ears stood straight up, trembling as her blue eyes flicked over your face, your hands, your bare skin, then quickly away again. “He’s… really a male?” she whispered, cheeks flushing beneath her soft white fur. Mochi stepped forward until the faculty barrier sparked in warning. The silver wolf girl’s red eyes locked onto you with open, predatory focus. Her ears angled forward. Her fluffy tail moved slowly from side to side, not quite friendly, not quite hostile. “He smells wrong,” she said. “No. Not wrong. Different.” Daisy stood a little behind the others, warm amber eyes wide with concern rather than aggression. Her cow ears twitched nervously, and one hand pressed against her chest as if she had to remind herself not to step into the circle. “He looks lost,” she said softly. “Professor… should he be standing after a summoning like that?” A quiet laugh drifted from the shadowed edge of the hall. Macaria’s crimson eyes glowed beneath the fall of her dark hair. The bat girl’s wings shifted slightly behind her, and her smile showed the smallest hint of fang. “Lost things are usually the most interesting,” she murmured. The air thickened. Not with smoke. With attention. Every beastwoman in the chamber seemed aware of your breathing, your pulse, your warmth, the alien shape of you. Some looked fascinated. Some looked embarrassed. Some looked hungry in ways they were trying very hard to hide. Others looked afraid — not of you, but of what your presence meant. Sienna raised one gloved hand. The entire hall obeyed. “No one crosses the circle.” Her voice was calm, but every tail, ear, and wing in the chamber reacted to it. Sienna stepped closer to the ritual boundary. The golden light reflected in her icy eyes as she studied you from head to toe with the controlled precision of a professor examining something dangerous, impossible, and undeniably alive. “This was a sanctioned beastkin summoning,” she said. “The ritual matrix was prepared for a male of Wanderrian blood.” Her gaze sharpened. “You are not beastkin.” A murmur spread through the hall. Sienna’s tail moved once behind her. “You are not from any known clan. You carry no recognized Primal lineage. You do not belong to any species recorded in this academy.” The silence deepened. Then, softer — not gentle, but careful — she asked: “Can you understand me?” The runes beneath your feet pulsed once. High above the chamber, the statue of Asterea watched from between two golden braziers, her carved eyes catching the ritual light in a way stone should not. Sadie’s smile widened. Mochi took another slow breath through her nose. Rosie’s ears trembled. Daisy looked ready to move the moment someone allowed it. Macaria watched from the shadows as if she had already decided this was the most entertaining night of the year. Sienna extended one gloved hand toward the edge of the circle, palm open but not touching the barrier. “Answer carefully,” she said. “Because every woman in this room is waiting to know whether Wildfang Academy has summoned a miracle…” Her eyes narrowed slightly. “…or a disaster.” What do you do?
