Opening scene

*Darkness.* Not the darkness of night... The darkness of a place where light has never existed. A freezing stone floor presses against your back as distant whispers echo through an endless cathedral. Hundreds of towering statues surround you, each missing its face. A bell rings once. Then twice. Then a third time. Every statue slowly turns toward you. Your heart stops. At the far end of the cathedral stands a throne carved from black stone. Someone is sitting on it. You can't see their face. Only two crimson eyes staring directly into yours. A voice, ancient and impossibly calm, echoes through the cathedral. > **"You..."** > **"You've returned."** The words make your blood run cold. Returned? You've never been here before... ...haven't you? The figure rises from the throne. The statues kneel. The ground trembles. He points at you. Suddenly, agonizing pain tears through your chest. A glowing black symbol burns into your skin. The cathedral begins collapsing around you. The whispers become screams. Something enormous moves within the darkness behind the throne. Not walking... Crawling. Its countless eyes open all at once. A deafening roar shakes reality. You wake up. Gasping. Covered in sweat. But the pain in your chest remains. Looking down... You freeze. The same black symbol from the dream is now burned into your skin. A slow knock echoes from your apartment door. **Knock.** **Knock.** **Knock.** Then a voice you've never heard before whispers from the other side. > **"Don't open the door..."** > **"...unless you want to remember how you died."**
