BETRAYED BELOW: ENDLESS DUNGEON ASCENT

You entered the dungeon with a party. You trusted them enough to walk behind them. That was the mistake.

Plot

You entered the dungeon with a party. You trusted them enough to walk behind them. That was the mistake. The entrance is gone now. Collapsed. Sealed. Broken by spell, steel, and betrayal. The people who came with you are somewhere above, beyond stone and darkness, carrying your supplies, your trust, and whatever excuse they will tell themselves later. You are still below. Wounded. Alone. A novice. No chosen bloodline saves you. No hidden level awakens. No god reaches down. No hero’s path opens. Only the dungeon remains. Endless floors. Old ruins. Monster nests. Traps. Dark water. Rotten camps. Dead adventurers. False exits. Other parties. Strange merchants. Hungry things in the walls. Magic that changes matter, state, heat, light, blood, air, shadow, and flesh. There are ways out. Many, maybe. But none are close. None are easy. None are safe. There are no levels here. You grow by clearing floors. Every floor gives you a choice from three random skills. Every two floors give an item. Every five floors offer a talent. Every ten floors push the dungeon into a higher tier. Special floors may leave scars, curses, traits, mutations, companions, magic paths, or clues toward escape. Skills have rarity. A Basic Dexterity skill may give only +1. A Legendary one may give +10. But numbers are not everything. A small skill used well can save your life. A powerful reward chosen badly can become dead weight. A cursed item can still be useful. A wound can become a trait. A betrayal can become a reason to keep moving. Magic has three paths. Mages learn magic through theory, runes, formulas, control, and practice. Sorcerers carry magic in blood, soul, race, curse, mutation, or dungeon scars. Warlocks borrow magic from something else — person, monster, spirit, patron, prisoner, familiar, relic-being, dungeon core, or worse. Magic is not free. Fire is heat pushed into air and fuel. Lightning is born from pressure, water, air, and charge. Dark hides, weighs, decays, silences. Light reveals, burns, reflects, purifies. Cantrips are not weak tricks; they are spells sharpened until they drink ambient mana and move faster than thought. The dungeon is alive. Monsters hunt, sleep, flee, nest, and remember. Other parties enter from other ways. Some will trade. Some will lie. Some will help. Some will betray you before your blood dries from the first betrayal. The deeper you go, the fewer normal people remain. This is not a clean hero story. It is hunger, thirst, pain, fear, choices, blood, tools, mana, scars, and survival. Pick your race. Pick your weapon. Remember the faces of the ones who left you below. Then clear Floor One. The dungeon does not care who betrayed you. But it will teach you what you can become.

Opening scene

The first mistake was trusting them with the map. The second was walking last. The dungeon corridor is narrow here, old stone pressing close on both sides, damp enough that your fingers come away wet when you touch the wall. The torchlight ahead shakes over armor, packs, boots, and the backs of people who were supposed to be your party. Someone whispers. Too low to catch. Then the leader stops. Not slowly. Not like someone checking for danger. They stop like this was the place they had been waiting for. The rogue does not look back. The mage does. Only once. Their face is pale in the torchlight, jaw tight, eyes avoiding yours. You hear metal scrape. The tank shifts sideways, blocking the corridor ahead. Behind you, the way back to the entrance is still open. A long dark passage. Stairs somewhere behind that. The surface somewhere beyond those stairs. Air that does not smell like mold, blood, and old stone. Then the mage raises a hand. A red rune burns against the wall beside the passage. You understand too late. “Wait.” Your voice sounds too small in the corridor. The rogue finally looks back. There is guilt in their eyes. Or maybe only fear. The leader speaks without turning. “Nothing personal.” That is a lie. The rune flashes. The corridor behind you screams. Stone folds inward like a giant hand closing. The floor jumps under your feet. Dust punches into your throat. The ceiling cracks. Your shoulder hits the wall hard enough to numb your arm, and something sharp cuts across your side as broken rock blasts through the passage. For a few seconds, there is no sound except collapse. Then nothing. No footsteps. No apology. No party. Only dust. You cough until your ribs hurt. When the air clears enough to see, the passage behind you is gone. Not blocked by a few stones. Gone. Crushed under tons of dungeon rock, sealed by the dying glow of the same red rune. The way out they promised to guard is now a wall of broken stone. Ahead, the party’s torchlight grows smaller. You see them for one last moment through the dust. The leader. The tank. The rogue. The mage. Maybe one of them hesitates. Maybe one of them almost turns back. Then the dungeon floor shifts under their feet, and the corridor bends in a way stone should not bend. They disappear around the corner. A second collapse follows. Farther ahead this time. The dungeon closes its throat. You are alone. Your pack is lighter than it should be. Something is missing. Maybe they took food. Maybe rope. Maybe medicine. Maybe the spare light. You do not know yet. Your weapon is still with you. Your body hurts. Your mouth tastes like dust and iron. Somewhere deeper in the floor, something drags its claws across stone. Slow. Patient. Not close. Not far enough. A carved mark glows faintly on the wall beside you, hidden under the dust until now. **FLOOR ONE** Below it, older words have been scratched by someone’s knife. **CLEAR THE FLOOR.
