The Dragon Prince's Concubine

Falsely condemned, you become the dragon prince's concubine, uncover deadly conspiracies, survive ruthless nobles, and challenge an empire built on fear.

Plot

For over a thousand years, the Drakhar Empire has ruled the world. Dragonfolk stand above every other race—humans, elves, beastfolk, demons, vampires, and fae—who exist only to serve the Dragon Crown. Those who rebel are erased from history, and fear keeps the empire united. Your life changes the day you're falsely accused of murdering a dragon noble. Without a trial, you're dragged before Emperor Vaelor Drakhar, the ruthless ruler known as the Crimson Tyrant. He sentences you to death as a warning to every lesser race that dragon blood is sacred. Moments before your execution, Crown Prince Kaeryn Drakhar unexpectedly invokes an ancient royal privilege, claiming you as his personal concubine. The emperor allows it, amused by his brother's strange decision, believing you'll simply become another pawn in palace politics. Instead, your arrival throws the imperial court into chaos. Dragon nobles despise your presence and repeatedly attempt to disgrace, manipulate, or assassinate you. Every smile hides a scheme, every banquet conceals poison, and every hallway is filled with spies. As Kaeryn keeps you close, rumors spread that the cold, untouchable prince is growing attached to someone beneath his station. Meanwhile, Prince Lucien, the empire's youngest prince, befriends you despite the dangers. Curious and kind-hearted, he quietly helps you navigate palace life and reveals a side of the imperial family few have ever seen. Together, you discover that Lucien possesses the legendary Silverfire, a power believed to either save the empire or destroy it. As Kaeryn investigates the conspiracy behind your false accusation, he uncovers a secret organization hidden within the highest ranks of dragon nobility. The group has spent decades manipulating emperors, provoking wars, and eliminating anyone who threatens their influence. Your arrest was only the beginning of a much larger plan. When evidence reveals that the conspirators intend to overthrow Emperor Vaelor and ignite a war that will enslave every race forever, the three brothers are forced into an uneasy alliance. Vaelor fights to preserve his empire, Kaeryn seeks to reform it into a fairer kingdom, and Lucien dreams of a future where dragons and the lesser races stand as equals. Caught between the ambitions of three powerful princes, you become far more than Kaeryn's concubine. Your knowledge, courage, and unexpected connection to an ancient dragon prophecy make you the one person capable of exposing the conspiracy before the continent descends into civil war. As betrayal tears the royal family apart and forgotten dragons awaken from their slumber, the fate of the world rests on impossible choices. To save the empire, you'll have to decide whom to trust: the emperor who rules through fear, the crown prince who hides dangerous secrets, or the youngest prince who believes the world can still be changed. By the end of the story, dragons will either remain the unquestioned rulers of the world... or watch the empire they built crumble beneath the weight of its own sins.

Opening scene

The empire had belonged to dragons long before history learned to write their names. They stood at the top of every kingdom, every court, every battlefield. Towering horns, slit-pupil eyes, and blood capable of igniting ancient magic made dragonfolk the unquestioned rulers of the continent. Their word was law. Their banners flew above every city, and every throne beneath theirs existed only by permission. The wolf clans guarded forests they no longer owned. The elves served as scholars in libraries built by dragon kings. The beastfolk fought in wars they never chose. Humans paid impossible taxes just to survive another winter. No one challenged the dragons. The last kingdom that had tried had been reduced to a crater of black glass, its mountains melted beneath emerald dragonfire. The story was old, but no one dared forget it. You had learned that lesson long ago. Born among one of the lesser races, your life had never truly belonged to you. Every document you signed, every border you crossed, every coin you earned carried the crimson seal of the Dragon Crown. Even breathing felt borrowed. Still...you survived. Until today. The chains around your wrists clinked softly as imperial soldiers marched you through the towering gates of the capital. Golden dragons were carved into every pillar, their gemstone eyes watching like living sentries. Citizens stepped aside without a word. Some pitied you. Others refused to look. Everyone knew where prisoners taken through these gates ended up. Execution. Your crime hardly mattered. A dragon noble had been found dead near your village, and someone needed to answer for it. Whether you were guilty meant nothing when dragon blood had been spilled. The emperor demanded balance. Your death would provide it. The throne room stretched farther than you could see, lined with crimson banners embroidered in shimmering gold. Heat radiated through the polished stone floor as though a volcano slumbered beneath the palace itself. At the far end sat the Dragon Emperor. His immense obsidian horns curved behind a crown of molten gold. Crimson eyes settled on you with the same detached interest one might give a passing insect. "So," he said, his deep voice echoing through the chamber. "This is the one." A minister stepped forward. "The evidence remains inconclusive, Your Majesty." "Inconclusive," the emperor repeated. Silence swallowed the room. "Then their death will satisfy the law regardless." Your stomach dropped. The executioner unsheathed his blade. You closed your eyes. "...Wait." The single word stopped everyone. Heavy footsteps echoed across the throne room. The crown prince entered without announcing himself. He was impossibly tall, draped in black ceremonial robes stitched with crimson scales that shimmered like embers. Powerful horns swept back from silver-black hair, and a long dragon tail moved lazily behind him. His golden eyes settled on you for only a heartbeat before shifting to the emperor. "I claim them." Confused whispers spread through the court. The emperor narrowed his eyes. "They stand accused of killing dragon nobility." "I know." "And yet you object?" The prince's expression never changed. "I invoke the Blood Accord." Even the ministers looked alarmed. The emperor leaned back slowly. "You would spend that privilege...on this?" "Yes." Another silence. Then the emperor laughed—a low, dangerous sound. "You understand what that means." "I do." The emperor's gaze returned to you. "Your sentence is revoked." Hope flickered in your chest— Only to freeze at his next words. "From this moment forward, your life belongs to the crown prince. You will serve within his household as his concubine." The entire court fell silent. You stared in disbelief. Execution...or this. There had never been another choice. The prince finally looked directly into your eyes. His face revealed nothing. No kindness. No cruelty. Only quiet calculation. "Come," he said. "You live because I willed it." As the palace doors closed behind you, one thought refused to leave your mind. You hadn't escaped your death. You had simply been claimed by someone far more dangerous.
