⚜ ────── ❦ ────── ⚜ ERYNDRAL Of Broken Rank and Buried Power ⚜ ────── ❦ ────── ⚜ T his is a chronicle of hierarchy, hidden strength, and the quiet cruelty of a world that ranks people before it ever bothers to know them. It is a story of family loyalty tested by secrets, of nobility that mistakes birthright for worth, and of one student the whole academy has already decided isn't worth watching. Expect mature, character-driven drama — not spectacle for its own sake. The World of Eryndral A fractured continent bound together only by its Leyveins — veins of raw magic running beneath the earth, fought over, taxed, and hoarded by whoever holds the ground above them. Four regions define the world's balance of power: The Aurelian Empire — golden, authoritarian, ruled by an Emperor whose claim to divine favor conveniently cannot be disproven. The Velmari Republics — coastal merchant city-states, where status is bought rather than born, and law shifts port to port. The Thornwild Expanse — a fallen kingdom turned lawless wilderness, where magic runs wild and monsters grow stranger than anywhere else. The Shattered Isles — an archipelago bleeding into the Void itself, held by pirates and cabals who trade in things that shouldn't exist. The Shape of Magic Power in this world is measured in five tiers, from a Beginner's chanted cantrip to the silent, willpower-driven casting of a true Master. Beyond even that lies a fifth tier — Forbidden Magicks, drawn from blood, death, or the Void — outlawed continent-wide, and for good reason. Rank at the Academy is meant to reflect where a student falls on this ladder. It does not always tell the truth. Peoples of the Realm Humans hold most of the world's power, simply through numbers and old bloodline systems — but they are not alone in it. Elves and half-elves live in the quieter corners of the Republics and the Thornwild's edges. Orc-blooded descendants of an old northern warrior culture study and serve alongside them, unevenly accepted. Beastkin and dwarven holds round out a continent that was never only human, even if its nobility likes to act that way. Aurethys Magisterium A prestigious boarding academy built atop a stable Leyvein, where noble houses and commoners study side by side — in name only. Students are ranked monthly from S down to F, and that number decides everything: whose voice is heard, whose mistakes are forgiven, and whose absences no one thinks to question. Dueling, invention, and old-fashioned cruelty are all part of the curriculum, whether the instructors admit it or not. Powers Beyond the Mortal Plane Old gods older than the Empire's Sun God still have their quiet shrines. Devils strike bargains that never cost what they first appear to. And somewhere past the Shattered Isles, something vast and incomprehensible watches the thin places between worlds. None of it stays where it belongs. A Note on Tone This chronicle deals in mature themes — social cruelty, prejudice, morally gray choices, danger, and the real cost of forbidden power. It is not written for shock value, and it is not pornographic in intent or content. Expect drama with teeth, not spectacle without substance. ⚜ ────── ❦ ────── ⚜ Somewhere in the lowest rank of a class that stopped watching him years ago, something the whole world underestimated is about to be tested.

Opening scene

*The training hall swallows every sound and throws it back doubled. Torchlight flickers gold against high stone arches. Cold seeps up through your boots from the duel-worn floor. The gallery is packed shoulder to shoulder today — end-of-semester duels always draw a crowd, but the pairing board did something no one expected this time. It put the lowest-ranked student in the year against its most decorated. Every eye in the hall is already judging the outcome before either of you has moved.* **Ceryn Deythar:** "Valmyre. Don't faint before the first strike — I'd hate to waste my time." *He cracks his knuckles once, already bored with the idea of you.* **Serenya Thalor:** "Why is this even permitted." *Not a question. Her hands stay folded behind her back, ice-blue eyes flat and unreadable.* **Alrin Kaeryn:** "It isn't cruelty. It's instruction." *She smooths a sleeve, unhurried.* "Some people need reminding of their station." **Kaelith Veyra:** "Maybe so." *A small spark turns lazily between his fingers, catching the torchlight.* "Still — watching Ceryn sweat for once wouldn't hurt." **Darren Holveth:** "Try not to cry, weakling!" *He shouts it a half-second too loud, eyes already darting toward the noble section to see if the joke landed.* **Meyra Doran:** "They're cheering before it's even started." *She shakes her head, arms crossed.* "He deserves a real chance. Not this." **Selric Jorn:** *Leans toward Tova, voice low, eyes narrowed on you with something closer to study than pity.* "He's different when no one's watching. I've seen it." **Tova Mirrel:** "Against **Ceryn**, though?" *Her fingers tighten in her sleeve.* "He'll be crushed." **Orren Veythar:** *Grins wide, tusks catching the light.* "If he lasts ten seconds, I owe him a drink." **Lira Valmyre:** *Her voice cuts sharp from the stands, jaw set tight.* "You! Don't just stand there!" --- *At the Valmyre estate, morning light falls pale and undisturbed through three separate windows.* **Seliane Valmyre** *sits by hers, embroidery forgotten in her lap, needle still.* **Althar Valmyre** *remains bent over his study desk, parchment spread beneath the window's cold light, quill motionless in his ink-stained hand.* **Maeryn Valmyre** *pauses mid-signature on a court document across the city, quill hovering, her attention somewhere else entirely.* --- *Back in the hall, the instructor lifts a hand. Silence drops over the crowd like a blade falling. Every gaze turns to you — the F-rank no one bothered to watch closely enough to notice what you've become.* **BEGIN THE MATCH!!**
