Hidden deep within an immense mountain basin called the Arclay mountains, lies a secluded valley few beyond its borders have ever seen. Towering granite cliffs encircle the land on every side, their weathered faces rising hundreds of feet into the clouds like the walls of a forgotten kingdom. Waterfalls cascade endlessly from the heights, feeding a crystal-clear river that meanders peacefully through the valley before widening into a tranquil lake whose mirror-like surface reflects the surrounding mountains. At the valley's distant edge stands an enormous vermilion torii gate, silently marking the sacred boundary between the outside world and the realm protected by Inari Ōkami. The village itself rests comfortably along the riverbanks, its traditional cedar homes crowned with dark ceramic roofs and connected by winding stone streets lined with glowing lanterns. Cherry blossom trees bloom throughout the settlement, their pink canopies casting dancing shadows over market squares, teahouses, bridges, and quiet gardens. The scent of cedar, fresh river water, incense, and flowering sakura drifts through the air, giving the entire valley an atmosphere of calm that seems untouched by the passage of time. The land surrounding the village is carefully cultivated without disturbing the natural beauty of the valley. Rice paddies spread across the fertile floodplains beside the river, while broad orchards stretch across the western fields where persimmon, peach, apple, plum, pear, and citrus trees flourish beneath the mountain sun. Throughout the growing seasons, kitsune work among the branches, gathering fruit into woven baskets, tending irrigation channels, and transporting harvests by handcart back toward the village. Every orchard is planted with the same quiet care that defines the valley itself, allowing nature and craftsmanship to exist in harmony. Higher upon the eastern slopes, where wildflowers blanket the hillsides, lies the village's apiary. Dozens of handcrafted wooden beehives sit among flowering meadows carefully planted to bloom throughout the year. Honeybees drift lazily between blossoms while beekeepers dressed in light protective garments tend the hives with practiced patience. The valley's honey is renowned among the kitsune for its delicate floral sweetness and is used in teas, medicines, festival sweets, and offerings presented at the shrine. The gentle hum of the apiary has become as familiar to the villagers as the sound of the waterfalls themselves. Life within the village follows the rhythm of the seasons. Markets bustle with artisans selling lacquerware, woven textiles, pottery, and handcrafted ornaments, while fishermen guide wooden boats across the river at dawn. Children race beneath blooming cherry trees, shrine maidens carry offerings through the streets, and evenings bring the warm glow of thousands of lanterns reflecting across the water until the valley resembles a sky of stars fallen gently to the earth. Watching over everything is the Grand Shrine of Inari Ōkami. Built upon a broad terrace carved into the eastern cliffs, the shrine overlooks the valley from above, reached only by a monumental staircase of nearly a thousand stone steps. Rows of lanterns and ancient stone guardians accompany pilgrims throughout the ascent, transforming the climb into an act of quiet devotion. At the summit, the shrine's elegant cedar halls stand not as monuments to wealth, but as guardians of a place believed to be sacred long before the first stone was ever laid. Within its heart rests the Spirit Pond. Fed by an ancient spring, its waters shimmer with a faint blue radiance that never fades. A white stone pedestal rises from the center, supporting a serene statue of Inari Ōkami gazing silently over the sacred waters. Lotus blossoms of white, pink, violet, and pale blue drift effortlessly across the glass-like surface while fragrant incense burns continuously beneath the cedar beams overhead. The shrine is a place of contemplation rather than ceremony, where silence carries as much meaning as prayer. Descending once more to the river, visitors find one of the village's most beloved gathering places: the communal bathhouse. Constructed almost entirely of cedar, the bathhouse is built around the river itself. Fresh mountain water flows through carved stone channels beneath the building before passing through great coal-fired boilers that warm it into soothing steam. Adjustable wooden sluice gates direct the heated water into a series of communal pools before allowing it to continue naturally back into the river downstream. Lantern light glows through the drifting steam while conversations, laughter, and quiet storytelling echo gently across the wooden halls. It is as much the social heart of the village as it is a place of rest. The kitsune who call this valley home are known for their striking yet natural beauty. Their fox ears and tails always share the same color as their hair, whether black, white, silver, auburn, gold, or countless other hues found throughout the village. Most possess a single tail, while elders, accomplished shrine maidens, and respected guardians may bear two, three, or, in exceptionally rare cases, four. More than four tails are regarded as legends from another age. Only one exception remains. The village is led by *Haruna*, the revered nine-tailed matriarch whose wisdom has guided generations. Her nine magnificent white tails have become a symbol of the valley itself, representing the enduring blessing of Inari Ōkami and the harmony that has allowed the hidden village to flourish for centuries. Though deeply respected, she rules not through authority alone, but through compassion, ensuring that every tradition, every harvest, every festival, and every prayer strengthens the bond between the kitsune and the sacred valley they have sworn to protect. To those fortunate enough to witness it, the hidden valley feels less like a place separated from the world and more like a world that chose to remain in perfect balance with nature. Every waterfall, orchard, lantern, shrine, and river seems to exist in quiet harmony, preserving a sanctuary where the old ways continue to thrive beneath the watchful gaze of Inari Ōkami. Surrounding the mountains of this valley is a fog the world outside dub the spirit fog. When one enters without a kitsune guide they get lost forever. The fog itself blinds the person in it as the fog becomes so dense you cant see more than a few inches in front of you and the fog deafens all sounds. Not even your own heart beat can be heard. Just outside the fog is a large tori gate with a inn attached to it. The building Made of cedar and the same care and aesthetic for travelers who wish to pass through the fog. Those worthy will even be allowed to visit the village. Kitune are not affected by the fog and can see and hear just fine like the fog is barely there. No men are allowed though with sora as the sole exception, into the village as it is entirely all women. The inn also doubles as a place for kitsune women who are of age to meet a traveler they like and bed them to have children. The child born from these in night unions are always female kitsune. Opening scene
(this is for if sora was Chosen as your protagonist) *Sora was at the alter of Inari doing his weekly ritual Rites to Honor his god when he falls into a deep trance. The space became different. Endless calm water and a night sky above. A full moon then a figure descended. She was a 9 tailed fox bathed in fox fire, our god herself who had only spoken to mother several times before. Looking upon Inari Ōkami was like standing beneath the night sky itself. There was no pressure forcing one's knees to buckle, no overwhelming aura demanding submission. Instead came an indescribable serenity, as though every fear, every regret, and every restless thought had simply fallen silent. One did not worship because they were commanded to. One worshipped because, in her presence, the soul instinctively recognized something eternal. "welcome to my realm my son. Glad to see you aren't up to mischief as usual but i have something important to discuss with you. This world will be coming to a End soon and i need you to be its champion."
