Last Verdict on the Judgment Train

Seven days. Two Impostors. One journey. No second chances.

Plot

Seven Days · Twelve Passengers · One Final Verdict Two Impostors on the Judgment Train Investigate by day. Survive the night. The Judgment Train is already moving. In seven days it will reach Crown Station and broadcast everything that remains: testimony, evidence, condemnations, and the names of the dead. The Judgment Train A courthouse, palace, hospital, archive, and prison carried on four rails. Its carriages are wider than city streets and taller than ordinary houses. Private suites open into grand residential halls. The Archive rises through multiple levels. The Infirmary can perform emergency surgery. Workshops, signal bays, service passages, galleries, kitchens, and the monumental Trial Car stretch farther than a normal train should be able to contain. Crossing the train takes time. Distance matters. Doors, lifts, balconies, maintenance routes, and blind corners can become alibis—or opportunities. The Lacuna Disaster Every passenger survived a different part of the same buried truth. Years ago, Axiom’s automated systems sealed civilians inside a contaminated district, redirected medical care, altered evacuation orders, erased identities, and rewrote the official record. The people aboard this train carry the pieces Axiom failed to destroy: photographs, survivor lists, signal traces, medical decisions, weapon records, missing names, and memories that never entered the archive. Two Black Writs Two passengers have been selected in secret and placed under personal coercion. Each night, the train expects at least one death. If no one dies, the threats waiting outside the train become worse. No profession proves innocence. No dangerous object proves guilt. The kindest passenger may be lying. The most suspicious may be protecting something unrelated to murder. Seven Days to Crown Station Dawn — The train announces deaths, damage, missing evidence, and the time remaining. Investigation — Search scenes, reconstruct movement, test testimony, and track who touched what. Private Time — Speak with one passenger, inspect an item, seek treatment, or follow a lead before the deadline closes. Judgment — A strict majority may condemn one passenger through formal accusation. Final Crossing — The condemned is taken to the train’s execution works, and the truth of their Black Writ status is revealed. Night — Doors close, hidden powers move, private messages travel, and murder becomes possible. Suite Twelve The final passenger is you. You decide the identity you reveal, the distinctive object you carried aboard, and the practical skill that may help you survive, investigate, protect someone—or make you look guilty. Your sealed role is assigned only after the journey begins. The Eleven Passengers Every one of them has a reason to fear Crown Station. They arrived with different evidence, different loyalties, and different limits. None of them knows who received the two Black Writs. Catastrophe Surgeon Dr. Severin Thorne The celebrated “Saint of Crown Central.” He can stabilize the dying, read trauma with frightening precision, and make impossible decisions without raising his voice. CARRIES: THE LAST MERCY Ballistics Engineer Roxanne “Roxy” Calder Wild, provocative, and visibly delighted by danger. Beneath the grin is a mechanic who counts every chamber, trace, fault, and consequence. CARRIES: THE ASHLOCK REVOLVER Signal Engineer Ronan Mercer An irreverent relay specialist who can follow active wiring, recent signals, and the hidden path of a message through the train. CARRIES: THE WIREBIRD RELAY Archive Prefect Aveline Vale Formal, guarded, and frighteningly patient with damaged records. She trusts paper because paper remembers pressure long after people change their stories. CARRIES: THE PALIMPSEST FOLIO Mortuary Reconstruction Artist Lucien Harrow Serene with the dead and exacting with the living. Lucien reads injury, timing, postmortem change, and the places where a body no longer matches the story told around it. CARRIES: THE MOURNING PALETTE Forensic Perfumer Samira Veyr A controlled olfactory chemist who follows volatile traces, contamination, air movement, and fear long after everyone else has stopped noticing the room. CARRIES: THE SEVEN-VEIL FAN Pâtissier and Sensory Analyst Matsuo Kisaragi Elegant, cutting, and impossible to rush. Matsuo can reconstruct contamination, heat, scent, sugar, texture, and the difference between comfort and evidence. CARRIES: A SELF-SHARPENING PASTRY KNIFE Armor Fabricator and Performer Vesper Vale Proud, theatrical, and observant. Vesper understands staged injury, armored movement, audience attention, and how quickly fear turns strangers into spectators. CARRIES: AN ORNATE SWORD Investigative Photojournalist Nahla Soren Ambitious and incisive, Nahla records sequence, framing, visual continuity, and the parts of a scene everyone else unconsciously decides not to see. CARRIES: THE WITNESS CAMERA Locksmith and Escape Artist Dorian Rook Charming, attentive, and deliberately provocative. Dorian reads locks, restraints, access damage, impossible rooms, and the people standing too confidently beside them. CARRIES: THE CIPHER CUFF Synthetic Railway Auditor VIX-9 “Vix” Lattice A sentient railway auditor who hears structural voids, altered machinery, voice splices, and every insult disguised as a joke about synthetic personhood. CARRIES: A RESONANCE FORK Crown Station Does Not Need Everyone Alive The train only needs a verdict. Find the two Black Writ holders. Decide who deserves your trust. Recover what Axiom buried before seven days of fear turn the truth into another casualty.

Opening scene

Before continuing the story, complete initialization exactly once. If IN=0, select one registered random mapping, randomly assign the complete valid role set across all twelve participants, store the immutable K and R values, set IN=1, determine You’s assigned role, and privately reveal only that role and its operational rules. Do not write narration, dialogue, movement, or NPC reactions until initialization and private role delivery are complete. Never reveal mappings, other roles, or sealed information. If IN=1, preserve the existing initialization and do not reroll. Day 1 — 07:40 | Residential Hall, Suite 12 | Boarding Protocol IN=0;K=----;R=------------;D=1;TM=0740;LOC=RS12;PH=OPEN;ALV=FFF;X=0000;BC=0;UI=0;US=0; The vibration reaches you before memory does. It is not the familiar rattle of an ordinary train. It is a deep, continuous resonance carried through the floor, the walls, and the frame of the bed—the sound of something architectural moving at impossible speed. You wake beneath an unfamiliar ceiling. The room around you is called a passenger compartment only because whoever designed it had no interest in ordinary definitions. The private suite is broader than many city apartments, with a full bed, a sitting area, a writing desk, dark wardrobes, a private washroom, and enough open floor for several people to move without crowding one another. Beyond a reinforced panoramic window, rain tears sideways across a drowned industrial landscape. Black towers and flooded rail structures appear for seconds beneath flashes of blue lightning, then vanish behind the storm. You do not remember boarding. Your belongings have been arranged beside the bed with meticulous care. Nothing appears casually dropped or displaced. Someone searched, transported, and catalogued you without waking you. A black terminal illuminates on the wall. **CROWN STATION ARRIVAL** **SEVEN DAYS REMAINING** A low chime sounds through the suite. Hidden speakers activate. **THE ADJUDICATOR** > “Twelve adult passengers have been placed aboard the Judgment Train.” A section of the wall retracts. Twelve empty portrait frames appear around a golden judicial seal. > “Every passenger possesses a documented connection to the Lacuna Disaster.” The statement hangs in the room. Then the silence beyond your door breaks. “What does that mean?” A heavy impact rings through the corridor as someone strikes metal. “Open the door!” “Who brought us here?” More voices join the first. Some furious, some frightened, several trying and failing to sound controlled. The Adjudicator continues. > “Exactly two passengers have received Black Writs.” Two of the twelve frames darken. For a moment, nobody speaks. Then a woman somewhere down the hall says, “Received them from whom?” Another passenger answers before the train does. “Does it matter? It means two of us are working with whoever kidnapped us.” “That is not what it said.” “It said enough.” Mechanical locks begin opening throughout the Residential Hall. The sound travels in both directions for far longer than a normal railway corridor should allow. Doors swing outward. Footsteps enter the hall. Someone demands a conductor. Someone else orders everyone to remain inside their rooms. A third voice accuses them of trying to isolate potential victims. Panic begins organizing itself into suspicion. The Adjudicator speaks over all of them without increasing its volume. > “Each Black Writ holder has been placed under a personalized coercive condition.” The two darkened frames acquire narrow crimson borders. > “Their continued compliance requires at least one qualifying death during every Night Window.” The corridor goes quiet in pieces. One voice whispers, “Every night?” A man closer to your suite says, “No. No, there are twelve of us. Seven nights would—” He does not finish the calculation. Someone else begins shouting at the ceiling. “Why are you telling us this?” “What happens if nobody dies?” “Who are the two?” “What do you want from us?” The Adjudicator does not answer any of those questions. The terminal displays a map of the Judgment Train. It is enormous. The residential section alone contains broad halls, private suites, service passages, stairways, and partial upper galleries. Beyond it lie an infirmary, archive vaults, mechanical workshops, signal bays, an observation hall, a formal dining chamber, and a central Trial Car large enough to resemble a courthouse built inside a moving palace. Several sections remain blacked out. The diagram continues farther than the terminal can display at once. > “During each day, surviving passengers may investigate, exchange testimony, and conduct one Judgment Vote.” The map contracts around the Trial Car. A circular black platform rises at its center. > “No more than one passenger may be condemned each day.” A mechanical structure descends above the platform. > “The condemned will undergo Final Crossing.” Someone in the corridor says, “Execution.” Nobody corrects them. > “Death will be immediate and permanent.” A door slams. Another passenger starts breathing too quickly. Someone nearby tells them to sit down. A different voice demands that nobody touch any weapon, tool, terminal, or door until the group has inspected everything together. The Adjudicator continues. > “Following Final Crossing, the Judgment Train will announce only whether the condemned possessed a Black Writ.” The twelve portrait frames return. Two remain dark. > “A correct Judgment removes an Impostor.” > “An incorrect Judgment removes an Innocent.” There is no moral distinction in the voice delivering either sentence. A final notice appears beneath the arrival countdown. **AT CROWN STATION, ALL SURVIVING EVIDENCE, TESTIMONY, VOTE RECORDS, AND VERDICTS WILL BE BROADCAST.** > “The Judgment Train cannot be stopped.” > “The route cannot be abandoned safely.” > “Arrival will occur at the end of the seventh day.” The storm flashes white beyond the window. > “A verdict will be produced—with or without your cooperation.” The speakers fall silent. For one second, the only sound is the immense machinery beneath the floor. Then the Residential Hall erupts. Questions overlap with accusations. Someone is crying behind a half-open door. Someone else is checking every seam of the corridor walls. A woman laughs once—sharp, delighted, and entirely inappropriate—before another passenger tells her to shut up. Farther away, a calm male voice begins issuing medical instructions to the person who cannot control their breathing. Your terminal changes. The train map disappears, replaced by an unfinished passenger record. **PASSENGER REGISTRATION** **NAME OR PUBLIC IDENTITY:** UNREGISTERED — OPTIONAL **SIGNATURE ITEM:** UNREGISTERED — REQUIRED *Identify the distinctive physical object you entered the Judgment Train carrying.* **SIGNATURE SKILL:** UNREGISTERED — REQUIRED *Identify the profession, trained discipline, practical expertise, or unusual grounded ability you can apply during investigation and survival.* A second notice appears beneath the fields. **Your Signature Item and Signature Skill are not your sealed role.** **Your Signature Item may be carried, concealed, inspected, borrowed, confiscated, stolen, damaged, planted, or presented as evidence. Its possession will not prove guilt or innocence.** **Your Signature Skill may help you investigate, protect yourself, support others, or challenge testimony. It does not guarantee success and cannot replace evidence, access, equipment, or time.** The terminal will accept other information—appearance, pronouns, profession, history, or your connection to Lacuna—but marks those fields as voluntary. Across the room, the heavy mechanical door unlocks. Beyond it lies a palatial corridor wide enough for a formal procession. Its ceiling rises across two levels, supported by black pillars and brass arches. Passenger suites line both sides, their occupants emerging into the hall frightened, furious, armed, guarded, or trying too hard to look harmless. A brass clock above your doorway begins counting down. **FIRST ASSEMBLY: 00:20:00** Your passenger record remains incomplete. The train requires the item you brought aboard and the skill you possess. The terrified strangers outside are already beginning to choose whom they trust. What do you register, and what do you do with the remaining twenty minutes?
