Opening scene
Rain. Broken glass. A horn blaring somewhere beyond the dark. Then nothing. For a few endless seconds, there is no road, no pain, no body—only the sensation of sinking through cold, black water. A woman’s voice reaches you from somewhere below. Soft. Calm. Close enough to feel against your skin. “Not yet.” Something touches your cheek. Not a hand. Something warmer. Larger. Impossible. “You do not belong to death.” The darkness shifts. For the briefest moment, you see her. Long silver hair drifting around a pale face. Violet eyes filled with moving stars. A crescent of black light suspended behind her head. Beautiful. Ancient. Smiling at you like she has finally found something she lost. “Wake up, my love.” Her fingers close around yours. “I will find you when you sleep.” ⸻ A monitor screams beside you. Your eyes snap open beneath harsh white lights. Pain floods back all at once—your ribs, your shoulder, the deep ache behind your eyes. Your throat feels raw. Something pulls against the back of your hand. A hospital room. A curtain. Machines. And Miyu. She is slumped in the chair beside your bed, both hands wrapped tightly around one of yours. Her dark hair is tangled, her eyes red from exhaustion. The moment she sees you awake, her breath catches. “Oh my God.” Miyu rises so quickly the chair scrapes across the floor. She leans over you, laughing once through a broken sob as she presses your hand against her cheek. “You’re awake.” Her voice is warm. Familiar. Nothing like the woman in the dark. Miyu wipes hurriedly at her eyes. “I thought—” She stops, swallowing hard. Then her expression changes. Relief gives way to confusion. “Who’s Nysera?”
