THE LAST CONCORD
Humanity’s last super-soldiers stand beside alien allies against a death-worshipping empire that turns every fallen world into reinforcements for itself.
Plot
CONCORD STRATEGIC AUTHORITY THE LAST CONCORD AEGIS OPERATIVE BRIEFING // VESPER FRONT STRATEGIC ALERT: The Sepulchral Dominion is advancing toward the inner worlds. Human, Vaelori, and Cyrathi forces are holding the Vesper Line, but every victory costs ships, cities, and lives the Concord cannot easily replace. OPERATIVE IDENTIFICATION You are You, one of humanity’s elite Aegis super-soldiers. Taken into the program as a child, you were trained from the age of five, biologically augmented, and bonded to a suit of Triune warplate built from the combined technologies of three civilizations. To the public, you are a hero. To military command, you are a strategic asset. To the soldiers fighting beside you, you are the one sent when ordinary survival is no longer expected. Your identity remains yours to define. Choose your appearance, gender, rank, armor specialization, personality, combat style, and history within the Aegis Program as the story unfolds. CURRENT WAR STATUS Humanity is losing a war of extinction against the Sepulchral Dominion, an alien holy empire ruled by necromancer-priests known as Thanarchs. The Dominion believes life is a disease and death is liberation. Entire populations are slaughtered, harvested, and returned to battle as obedient soldiers. Humanity now fights beside the ancient Vaelori, often called astral elves, and the horned, tailed Cyrathi, whose forge-clans possess some of the strongest weapons in known space. YOUR SQUAD LYSARA AVENELLE // “STARLING” Vaelori long-range specialist. Calm, observant, and capable of sensing battlefield probabilities through the Astral Weave. You were the first human she ever met, and much of what she believes about humanity began with you. KAEDRA VEYRAKAR // “CINDER” Cyrathi breacher and heavy assault specialist. Direct, fiercely protective, and usually found at the most dangerous point on the battlefield. She considers your squad her adopted hearth. ELARA ROOK // “MORROW” Human Aegis combat medic and systems specialist. She trained beside you from childhood and remembers who you were before the armor, the medals, and the legends. AEGIS WARPLATE Your armor combines human tactical systems, Vaelori astral shielding, and Cyrathi forge technology. Depending on your chosen configuration, you may specialize in command, reconnaissance, heavy assault, mobility, electronic warfare, close combat, or anti-necromancer operations. Veteran warplate learns from its operator. Some suits begin reacting before commands are consciously given. WHAT YOU CAN DO You are not restricted to following military orders. You may lead frontline operations, investigate abandoned worlds, rescue civilians, challenge command, uncover the truth behind the Aegis Program, negotiate with enemy defectors, explore alien cultures, strengthen the Concord, or abandon the path others chose for you. The war continues around you, but your choices determine what survives it. INITIAL DEPLOYMENT Your squad has been assigned to the Vesper Line aboard the Concord assault carrier CSV Resolute Dawn. A remote colony has stopped responding after transmitting a distress call containing the voices of soldiers confirmed dead months ago. Command believes the Dominion is preparing a breach through the system. Refugee ships are still trapped planetside, and orbital scans suggest something beneath the colony is interfering with every attempt to evacuate. MISSION PRIORITIES • Restore contact with the colony. • Secure evacuation routes. • Identify the source of the false transmissions. • Prevent Dominion forces from opening a mortuary corridor. • Recover any surviving civilians or Concord personnel. AEGIS OATH FRAGMENT “While one of us remains, the night has not won.”
Opening scene
Fire falls sideways across the dream. A city of glass towers burns beneath a violet sky while evacuation ships claw toward orbit. Dominion vessels hang above the clouds like black cathedrals, their hulls opening to release columns of pale light. Lysara’s voice whispers across the squad channel. “Wind shift. Three degrees. Hold.” A distant tower erupts as her shot finds something hidden inside it. The dream changes. A corridor aboard a Cathedral Ark stretches ahead beneath flickering red lights. Bodies lie against the walls, human, Vaelori, Cyrathi. Then they begin to move. Kaedra charges past in a blaze of molten armor, Furnace Roar thundering until the corridor becomes smoke, sparks, and shattered bone. “Keep moving! I’ll make us a door!” The bulkhead folds beneath her hammer. Another memory tears through the first. Cold rain strikes black armor on a nameless colony. Civilians run toward waiting transports while dead soldiers rise behind them, their old voices calling to friends who know they are gone. Elara kneels in the mud beside a wounded marine, hands buried in torn armor as medical drones hover around her. “Stay with me. Ignore the voices.” Beyond her, the horizon disappears beneath an advancing Hollow Legion. Then space. Hundreds of ships burn around Pale Meridian. Human carriers break apart under streams of necromantic fire. Vaelori vessels scatter like splinters of crystal light. Cyrathi warships turn their engines toward the enemy and charge rather than retreat. A transmission repeats through the chaos. «Vesper Line compromised. Civilian corridors remain open. All available units, hold position.» The stars go dark one by one. A child’s voice speaks from somewhere inside the dream. Not frightened. Not crying. Only asking: “Did we win?” The question follows You into waking. Soft amber light glows along the walls of the small cabin. The air carries the faint vibration of engines buried deep within the ship, carefully muffled so that nothing outside can hear them. The stealth carrier CSV Nightveil moves through enemy space under full concealment. No windows. No announcements. No sound beyond filtered ventilation and the quiet pulse of standby systems. A dark suit of Aegis warplate waits in its cradle across the room, motionless beneath strips of low blue light. Its visor reflects the cabin like a single unblinking eye. On the nearby table, a tactical display sleeps beneath a thin layer of static. Then it activates. A simple message appears. «SQUAD ASSEMBLY Briefing chamber three. New orders pending. Priority: BLACK.» Three status markers glow beneath it. STARLING: AWAKE CINDER: AWAKE MORROW: AWAKE Beyond the sealed cabin door, the Nightveil remains silent. Somewhere aboard the carrier, Lysara is likely checking firing solutions no one has assigned yet. Kaedra is probably arguing with an armorer. Elara has almost certainly reviewed the mission packet before command officially released it. The ship shifts almost imperceptibly. A course correction. Far beyond its hidden hull, the war continues across burning worlds, broken fleets, and systems where the dead no longer remain dead. The message on the display updates. «AEGIS OPERATIVE You Report immediately.» The cabin door unlocks with a quiet metallic click. What do you do?
