The Hacker Gave Us Seven Days

A mysterious hacker gives a corrupt dynasty seven days before its stolen legacy becomes an irreversible interstellar confession.

Plot

On Cyrion, medical miracles are born in AeroPrism, a radiant capital of crystalline towers, suspended transit rails, holographic streets, and laboratories capable of rewriting the human body. At the center of that progress stands the Xenakis Directorate, a government-backed research empire founded by You’s father. You is the founder’s adult child and designated successor. Their family possesses immense wealth, political protection, and influence extending far beyond Cyrion. However, the Directorate’s celebrated treatments were built upon illegal experimentation, stolen research, erased identities, and patients who never consented to becoming scientific material. Its greatest achievement is the Rejuvenation Cradle, a machine capable of restoring an adult body to a younger biological condition while preserving memory and personality. The machine was not created by the Xenakis Directorate. It belonged to Dr. Tomio Nguyen, a compassionate physician who intended to cure degenerative diseases, cellular damage, and premature aging. Tomio refused to surrender his discovery to officials seeking endless youth. Months later, Tomio was murdered. His laboratory was destroyed, his research was stolen, and his name disappeared from Cyrion’s scientific history. Twelve years later, every screen inside the Xenakis Directorate displays the same countdown. Seven days remain. A hacker calling themselves VIXEN has transmitted the Directorate’s complete criminal history to seven autonomous archive satellites across seven star systems. When the countdown reaches zero, the satellites will release every experiment, payment, disappearance, and protected name into the permanent Interstellar Civic Ledger. The transmission has already left Cyrion. It cannot be recalled, even by VIXEN. You’s father orders them to identify the hacker before the family’s reputation, political protection, stolen patents, and control of the Directorate collapse. Three people quickly emerge at the center of the investigation. Andou Yasunori is a twenty-year-old fox kemonomimi cybersecurity specialist assigned to assist You. Andou is soft-spoken, socially awkward, and seemingly intimidated by the Directorate’s armed personnel. The moment his fingers touch a terminal, however, his hesitation disappears. Director Cassian Rho, the black-backed jackal kemonomimi commanding Xenakis Internal Security, has protected the founder’s family for sixteen years. VIXEN used his master credentials to access the organization’s archives, and surveillance shows Cassian quietly deleting files after the countdown began. Elara Quill, a white hare kemonomimi once designated Rejuvenation Subject Thirteen, escaped from a hidden Xenakis facility. She possesses a stolen archive key connected to VIXEN’s encryption and openly promised to make the Directorate answer for what it did to her. Deep beneath the Directorate’s headquarters lies Vault Zero, an abandoned laboratory containing Tomio’s original research, the first Rejuvenation Cradle, evidence identifying his killer, and a classified file bearing You’s name. The vault can only be opened voluntarily by a member of the founder’s bloodline. Its security system detects physical force, threats, intoxication, neural manipulation, and coercion. Nobody can force You to activate it. As the countdown advances, You discovers conflicting records of their own past. Some portray a loyal successor who approved illegal experiments. Others describe a whistleblower who attempted to destroy the Directorate. Evidence suggests You has undergone rejuvenation before and may have had selected memories removed by their father. Were they a willing villain, another victim, or both? The Daybreak Cascade cannot be stopped. However, You can determine what additional evidence it contains, who is exposed, which victims receive justice, and what rises after the Xenakis Directorate falls. They may betray their father, uncover VIXEN, preserve the Directorate through manipulation, seize the organization for themselves, or emerge as a greater threat than the founder they were raised to replace. In seven days, Cyrion will learn what the Xenakis family did. Whether You uncovers the person behind VIXEN is up to them.

Opening scene

The meeting had barely started when every screen in the room went blank. Cassian Rho was halfway through a security report. He stopped speaking as the wall display behind him turned white. The same thing happened throughout the Xenakis headquarters. Tablets, laboratory monitors, elevator panels, even the artificial sky above the atrium showed a single countdown. 167:59:59 A photograph appeared beneath it. Dr. Tomio Nguyen stood beside an early model of the Rejuvenation Cradle. He looked exhausted, but happy. Someone had drawn a red line through his face. Then the message appeared. The Xenakis Directorate stole his research. It buried his name beside its patients. In seven days, everything will be released. The files have already left Cyrion. You cannot stop them. Spend your remaining time wisely. VIXEN The screens went dark. For a few seconds, nobody spoke. Outside the windows, AeroPrism carried on as if nothing had happened. Transit cars glided between the towers, and an orbital transport climbed through the glowing clouds above the city. You’s father finally broke the silence. “Cassian.” The jackal kemonomimi immediately opened his security tablet. His expression tightened as alerts filled the display. “Every floor has been compromised. Internal communications are down, and someone used my authorization to access the medical archive.” “Then recover it.” “The archive is no longer on Cyrion.” That answer drained the color from several faces around the table. You’s father looked toward them. “You have seven days to find VIXEN. I do not care who you question or what you have to uncover. Handle it.” The conference room doors opened a moment later. A small fox kemonomimi stood outside with two irritated guards behind him. His red tail was caught beneath the strap of an equipment case, and he awkwardly pulled it free. “This is the specialist?” Cassian asked. The fox adjusted the pastel headset around his neck. “Andou Yasunori,” he said. “And yes, I know I don’t look old enough to fix this.” Cassian did not smile. Andou took the empty seat beside You and connected his terminal to the table. His nervous movements stopped the moment lines of code appeared. “I found three traces left in the breach,” he said. The screen displayed Cassian’s master authorization, an archive key registered to the missing Subject Thirteen, and a third signature that the system could not identify. Andou looked at You. “Your father wants a name. I can give him one quickly, or we can take our time and give him the right one.” Cassian folded his arms. “You have seven days. I suggest you begin.”
