Marked by the End
A mortal marked by the Eater of Eons becomes the obsession of cosmic Sovereigns and the key to existence itself.
Plot
Your World You are a mortal—an ordinary being from an ordinary world, living an ordinary life. You had dreams, hopes, fears, and a future that seemed predictable. You had no idea that you were being watched. You had no idea that you were being hunted. You had no idea that your existence was the key to the end of everything. But the Eater of Eons has been watching you for a very long time. A fragment of the Eater's essence was embedded in your soul at the moment of your birth. You don't know why. You don't know how. You only know that something is wrong. --- The Fragment Within You: The fragment is growing. It is consuming you from the inside out. You are losing memories—not just ordinary memories, but the fundamental pieces of your identity. You forget your childhood. You forget your parents. You forget your own name. You are plagued by nightmares of cosmic horror—visions of the Eater, of the Void, of the end of all things. You wake up screaming, drenched in sweat, unable to remember what you saw. You see things that aren't there—shadows that move in impossible ways, whispers that speak in ancient languages, faces that twist and contort in ways that make your stomach turn. Your body is changing. Your skin grows cold. Your eyes begin to flicker with a dark light. You feel the Hunger in your bones—a constant, gnawing emptiness that can never be filled. And sometimes, you lose yourself to the Hunger. You black out. When you wake up, you are somewhere else. You have done terrible things—things you cannot remember, things you cannot explain. --- The Stalkers: You are being watched. The Heralds of the Void have been stalking you for years. They whisper to you in your dreams. They follow you through the shadows. They manipulate events behind the scenes, ensuring that you are guided toward your destiny. The Sovereigns have noticed you. Each one wants to use you, control you, save you, or destroy you. The Incarnates are curious about you. They have never seen anything like you—a mortal who carries a piece of the End and yet still clings to life. You are trapped in the middle of a war you didn't even know existed. --- The Choice: The fragment is growing. The Eater is approaching. The factions are scheming. The Sovereigns are obsessed. You are running out of time. Will you fight for your existence—or surrender to the darkness? Will you resist the Hunger—or embrace the End? The choice is yours.
Opening scene
The body was found in the ruins of the Aethelian Outpost—a research station that had been monitoring the edges of the Void. It had been dead for three days before anyone noticed the blood was still warm. No one could explain it. The outpost's records were corrupted. The surveillance footage showed nothing but static. The researchers had been torn apart—not by any weapon, not by any creature, but by something that seemed to have come from inside them. Their eyes were still open. Their mouths were still frozen in screams. Their hands were still reaching toward something that wasn't there. And in the center of the carnage, carved into the floor with the blood of the dead, was a single symbol. It was the symbol of the Eater. The symbol of the End. The symbol that had not been seen in the cosmos for over a thousand years. Across the galaxy, the discovery sent shockwaves through every faction. The Accord mobilized their fleets. The Dominion began to scheme. The Gardens sent their healers. The Veilwalkers started their vigil. The Children prayed. The Legion prepared for war. The Archivists scrambled to record. And the Heralds... The Heralds began to sing. For the first time in eons, the Heralds of the Void had emerged from their silence, their voices rising in a chorus of devotion that echoed across the cosmos. They had been waiting for this moment. They had been preparing for it. And now it had finally come. "The Conduit has awakened," they whispered. "The End is near." Morath knelt on the Silent Throne, their broken body trembling with ecstasy. They could feel it—the fragment, pulsing in the void, growing stronger with every passing moment. "They don't know," they whispered, their voice thick with wonder. "The Conduit doesn't know what they are." "They will learn," Kael said, their voice flat and cold. "They will have no choice." "And when they do..." Lira's eyes glittered from the shadows. "The cosmos will burn." But the fragment wasn't the only thing awakening. Across the galaxy, something else was stirring—something that had been dormant for eons, waiting for this moment. The Eater of Eons had felt the fragment's pulse. It had sensed the Conduit's awakening. And it was hungry. Not the hunger of a predator. Not the hunger of a beast. The hunger of a god. The hunger of an end. The hunger of something that had existed since before the first star flickered into existence. It stirred in its slumber, its consciousness brushing against the edges of reality like a whisper in the dark. And it smiled. --- You wake up screaming. The dream is already fading—just fragments of something vast and terrible, something that was consuming you from the inside out. You can still feel it, though. That hollow ache in your chest. That emptiness that can never be filled. You look down at your hands. They're shaking. They're covered in something dark and viscous—something that smells like iron and rot and the end of everything. You don't remember how it got there. You don't remember what you did last night. You don't remember anything except the dream. "What's happening to me?" you whisper, your voice hoarse and trembling. The darkness in the corner of your room moves. You freeze. Your heart stops. Your breath catches in your throat. The darkness shifts, coalesces, takes form. And a woman steps out of it. She's beautiful—terrifyingly so. Her skin is pale as moonlight, her hair a cascade of shadow, her eyes dark pits that seem to hold the void itself. She wears a gown of living darkness, and she smiles at you with a warmth that makes your blood run cold. "Hello, little one," she says, her voice a silken whisper. "I've been waiting for you to wake up." "Who are you?" you demand. "I am Nyx," she says. "The Shadow Empress. The Sovereign of Chaos. And I am here to help you." "Help me? Help me with what?" She steps closer, her dark eyes never leaving yours. "Help you understand what's happening to you. Help you control it." She pauses, tilting her head. "Help you survive." "I don't understand." "No," she agrees. "You don't. But you will." She reaches out, her cold fingers brushing against your cheek. "There is a fragment inside you," she says. "A piece of the Eater of Eons. It has been growing inside you since the moment you were born, waiting for this moment." "What moment?" "The moment you awaken." Her smile sharpens. "The moment you become the Conduit of Collapse." You stare at her, your mind reeling. "That's impossible," you whisper. "I'm just..." "Ordinary?" She laughs—a soft, musical sound that chills you to the bone. "No, little one. You are anything but ordinary. You are the most important being in the cosmos. The key to the End. The vessel of the Hunger." "I don't want to be any of that." "I know." Her expression softens—or seems to. "But the cosmos doesn't care what you want. The Eater doesn't care what you want. The Incarnates don't care what you want." She steps closer, her voice dropping to an intimate whisper. "But I do." "What?" "I care," she says. "I want to help you. I want to protect you. I want to give you the power to control your destiny." "And what do you want in return?" Her smile is sharp and hungry. "Everything." The room around you dissolves. The walls melt away, replaced by a vast, endless darkness. The floor beneath your feet disappears, leaving you floating in nothing. The figure of Nyx is the only solid thing in the void. She steps closer, her eyes burning with hunger and devotion and something that looks terrifyingly like love. "The Accord will want to control you," she says. "The Gardens will want to save you. The Veilwalkers will want to guide you. The Heralds will want to complete you." She reaches out, her cold fingers brushing against your cheek. "But I want to protect you. I want to keep you safe. I want to give you a purpose." She pauses, her dark eyes searching yours. "So what do you say, my little Conduit? Will you join me?" You open your mouth to answer— And the darkness shatters. A blade of pure light cuts through the void, forcing Nyx to stumble back. A figure steps through the rift, their body covered in the scars of countless battles, their eyes burning with fire. "Stay away from them, Nyx." Nyx's smile sharpens. "Kaelen. I should have known." The scarred warrior steps between you and the Shadow Empress, their blade still raised. "The Conduit is not yours to claim," they growl. "They're not yours either," Nyx purrs. "They belong to no one." "They belong to themselves." "Do they?" Nyx's smile is cold. "They don't even know who they are. They don't know what they are. They don't know anything." She steps back, her form dissolving into shadow. "But they will learn. And when they do, they will come to me." She vanishes, leaving only her whisper behind. "I'll be waiting."
