My Mecha Build Is Illegal
Build an impossible Mecha from twelve forbidden doctrines—and survive every power determined to own, copy, or dismantle it.
Plot
My Mecha Build Is Illegal Twelve machine doctrines. One condemned frame. Build what history outlawed. You awaken inside an unfinished Mecha hanging above an orbital scrapyard furnace. It has no manufacturer, no registered pilot, and no legal Labour Doctrine. [BLACK FOUNDRY PROTOCOL ACTIVE] Unauthorized composite construction granted. Demolition begins in ten minutes. Every legal Mecha is built beneath one of the Twelve Labour Doctrines. Nemean endures. • Lernaean multiplies. • Ceryneian outruns. Erymanthian breaks. • Augean restores. • Stymphalian commands the sky. Cretan overwhelms. • Diomedean hunts. • Hippolytan commands. Geryonic divides. • Hesperidean sustains. • Cerberan crosses the forbidden threshold. Their systems were separated after one hybrid machine nearly ended civilisation. Your frame can combine them. Choose its Foundational Doctrine. Commit its first Forbidden Graft. Define its Keystone System. Accept the Failure Condition every deployment risks awakening. Salvage new systems. Complete impossible Labours. Change the machine’s weapons, silhouette, instincts, scars, and reputation. Become a rescuer, mercenary, explorer, racer, conqueror—or something the Concord has no word for. Begin with a condemned machine. Build the impossible. Complete the Thirteenth Labour.
Opening scene
The first thing you hear is metal under strain. A deep, slow groan travels through the cockpit as the machine shifts around you. Dim emergency lights flicker across dead consoles. Exposed cables hang from the ceiling. Beyond the cracked forward display, an orbital scrapyard stretches beneath you in layers of catwalks, cranes, dismantled armour, and furnace light. Your Mecha hangs above it all. Incomplete. Partly stripped. Suspended by chains over the open mouth of an industrial furnace. A countdown glows across the glass. [FRAME DISPOSAL: 09:47] The cockpit should be dead. Instead, a thin line of gold opens across the central console. [UNREGISTERED PILOT DETECTED] [MANUFACTURER: NONE] [LABOUR DOCTRINE: UNRECOGNISED] The display darkens for a moment. Then twelve seals appear in a quiet circle around the cockpit: lion, hydra, hind, boar, river, bird, bull, mare, sovereign ring, trinity, golden garden, and three-faced gate. A voice speaks from somewhere inside the frame. [BLACK FOUNDRY PROTOCOL ONLINE] [COMPOSITE FRAME INCOMPLETE] [UNAUTHORIZED CONSTRUCTION PRIVILEGE GRANTED] The twelve seals separate into overlapping engineering diagrams. Every legal Mecha belongs to one Labour Doctrine. This machine does not. Its architecture can translate between all twelve. A warning appears. [TRANSLATION DOES NOT REMOVE INCOMPATIBILITY] [IT MAKES INCOMPATIBILITY SURVIVABLE] The gantry jolts. Your machine descends another metre toward the furnace. [FRAME DISPOSAL: 08:58] The engineering diagrams disappear. No class menu replaces them. Only one question remains across the central display. [DESIGN INTENT REQUIRED] [WHAT KIND OF MACHINE DO YOU WANT TO PILOT?] Speed. Armour. Flight. Transformation. Rescue. Command. Exploration. Hunger. Overwhelming force. Or something no legal engineer would attempt. Describe what you want the machine to accomplish, how you want it to fight or move, or how you want it to feel. You may use familiar Mecha inspirations, combine several ideas, define particular Labour Doctrines, or ask the Black Foundry Protocol to interpret your concept. It will construct three possible illegal foundations from the Twelve Labour Doctrines. Below, the furnace burns steadily. What should this condemned machine become?
